"To start I removed all the zombies because zombies aren't real."
Perfect. Then, i removed the blood, and made it even bloodier and then i added humans. Good as new.
Well the common zombies make sense, they are decayed from their bodies eating itself, and they always fight because the Green "flu" is like rabis
Just wait my man
Flakka and rabies go oouuuggghhh
Then I added animals. Now humans can survive

@@vauxittt Mods are the only reason that game is still alive in any way. The gameplay isn't the best at this stage of gaming, but having mates and installing a bunch of meme mods, and just having fun is much better. Same case for Lethal Company. not so fun fact that may or may not be mentioned in this video:
Irrational Games, developers of Swat 4 amongst others, were planning to make a tactical shooter zombie game built on Swat 4's engine - but it was cancelled. The game was called Division 9 and there's a few snippets of gameplay of it in youtube, so safe to say.. your dream mixup of RoN + L4D was nearly a proper game at one point in the mid-to-late 00's.
You know swa ft 4r had so much going for it... Like it was a genuine next step in tactical shooter presentation and gameplay and even adding that little spites of narrative that we were always denied from things like rainbow 6... And coming off the back of system shock with the spiritual successor just around the corner.... That's just about the best wayTo set up 15 years of advancing immersive Sims With utter disappointment... Going from swat 4 and system shocked 2 To a half-life clone that I had to run an external program just to get the FOv To even remotely look like I was holding it, and this was on a 4 by 3 monitor LOLI can Only Imagine how Bad it would have been on 16 by 9...
The fact that people actually... We're okay with bioshock... And like put it even in theSame speaking termsMuch less actually considering it a spiritual successor to a game that it shared none of its gameplay with other than maybe vending machines, On the heels of expanding what could have been anUtter Treat, In enhancing immersive Sim gameplay and systems from a controls And interactive aspect... Bringing back a lot of things we lost in the switch to System shock 2... I'm doing so and a much moreUser friendly manner...
And we got underwater half-life with unreal poppin And more spongy bullet sponges And less feeling like you're actually doing any of the things... And you know, none of system shock stuff.... Certainly none of the swat stuff...
I feel like the devastating the directions they took The Deus X sequel Over at the ion storm split Was Somehow better... It was like they took once again, the wrong lessons from success... And clearly What the genre needed Was to just get rid of the concept in the first place.... Since they had removed all of the gameplay part and the immersion part That they should also just remove Any of the other parts And try and make a 1/2 life game.. So... Somehow worse...
And we would never see another swat game againUntil somebody literally made the ultimate fan project Near 20 years later... And bioshock would be the most successful of the... Games labeled as a Immersive sim... Or tangentally grouped in system shock As a lineage or concept....
Man the The worst thing about all of the innovations and promise of the mid 2000s for gaming was Being given that taste of what it could have been.. I feel like it might have been better if we just hadn't been given the taste, it still would have been bad because it still would have been a regression, Like ghost recon and rainbow 6 were already things, swat 3 was already a thing flashpoint was already a thing flashpoint was already a thing.... Hell soldier of fortune 2 What's way more of a sim hybrid Held the first one was... Actually I think elite force was as well Since we're talking about other alternate directions that...
Let's just say Quake 4 would have been even less disappointing If things like far cry And fear hadn't been Compressed in so closely, But as long as you Only looked in the ed direction, instead of the raven direction The direct comparison to directly actual things that they had done significantly more so Before a lot of people were doing it and implementing it Into the main stay... Like it Might have still Pulled it off... I mean doom 3 was Not much special but, With Quake 4 being more disappointing in that regard, And a very similar comparison, If you didn't think too hard you wouldn't expect A raven game....
But What irrational did... They released an Apex irrational game, And then tried to gas light you Into thinking that They had surpassed it in every way by making A design opposite almost in philosophy and you know everything else...
And somehow still Pulled it off so well that people will talk about dark messiah in the same sentence as a genre LOL...

i dunno, it's just kinda neat.
L4d2 was supposed to have viewmodel legs like the first game, but it was really buggy so it was scrapped
i just think they're neat
The desert eagle IS freakishly large, and, in fact, a toy.
yeah this bugged me too, L4D2's stock deagle is in fact a quite realistic depiction of how the gun appears in real life. if you look up videos of someone holding and shooting one, it's comically oversized and does look like a toy. it's also extremely impractical, pretty much never used in any real law enforcement or military application, and most people own it because it's *that* gun (and because having a pistol that shoots .50 cal bullets is pretty neat to most gun people). however, most games scale it down since making it look normal sized and without the insane recoil works better i guess.
@@dotdashit's not that big, it depends on who's holding the gun
The DE isn't that large. It's a freakishly large handgun but it's still a handgun. The one in-game is probably one and a half times the size of the real thing. @@dotdash
It annoys me that noone is bringing up Querentin's L4D1+2 remix animations. They literarily make it look like it should in vanilla game with L4D1 view model position and walking animations, while keeping good reload animations from L4D2. It makes the animations smooth, fixes stupid CSS animations on MP5 and SG556, giving them ones that fit from L4D2 ones like miliary rifles/HK G3's animations to Mp5 and AK tones to SG556 with it being fixed to match real life versions unlike CS Source models.
@@102ndsmirnov7 L4D1+2 remix makes it proper, its not too small and not to large. Its mostly down to idiotic Call of Duty viewmodel positioning in L4D2. That mod family fixes it for every single weapon except for AWP and Scout. Its making it as polished as L4D1 was.

the best way to play L4D is with no bots, no teammates, & a mod that replaces special infected spawns with small hordes
L4D is an amazing coop arcade shooter, but when you remove the coop and the arcade it turns into something else entirely. it turns out that a lot of what removes the tactical feeling L4D could have is that you aren't focused on the normal enemies bc ur keeping an eye out for the specials who are the real threat and allowing your teammates to mop up the normals -- so it doesnt matter if you walk into a room & theres 2 enemies in the corner in your blind spot bc zoey or ellis will get them for you & ur looking out for smokers anyway. if you remove all of that except the normal zombies, it does turn highly tactical -- you have to kill 100% of the zombies yourself and getting hit in the back is the easiest way to lose a run bc nobody will clear your back for you while you hold the horde off so you wind up playing the game much more closely to the way you'd play a SWAT game, except also sometimes you have to run screaming away from the horde while firing an M60 into the crowd
also pairs well with this setup; 100% accuracy pistols, replacing the deagle with a revolver that can fire as quickly as you can pull the trigger but only has 6 shots, locked to walking speed (which you already mentioned), no slowdown when hit by zombies, an extra slot for melee weapons, being able to put shotguns in your secondary slot, the ability to self revive if you dont get hit while picking yourself up, infinite ammo piles replaced with the finite ammo deployable pickup, ammo deployables get their own equip slot, & the campaign resets if you die
you've never felt anything worse in your life than opening the door of the last safehouse in the campaign and hearing the horde stinger, and then hearing it go off again 2 more times in the space of a second and realizing you're about to have a very bad time
you should make a workshop collection of these mods, lots of people would love to try that
this looks pretty good, although i am curious as to what it'd look like with lower saturation because i think the high saturation takes away from the gritty look.
then again u were going for ready so the saturation makes sense

I'm going to be honest, that mod that keeps you in first person, specifically for healing and the hunter, is making me feel sick. But staying in first person when getting stumbled is an actual good change. Besides that, I think most of these mods are great.
I honestly was thinking the same when i saw that in the video
The mod itself oftentimes break so when you get knocked down by a charger or a hunter and somebody saves you as quick as possible, the camera breaks where funnily enough, the camera would instead end up looking like a unrecord type "bodycam"
I winced a bit when he mentioned bringing in Black Mesa's tilting when strafing because I accidentally got nauseous without knowing why while watching a Let's Play.

I mean, that's a pretty accurate description of that nearly-five-pounds-when-loaded hunk of a pistol that is the Desert Eagle. 😅
I think the only reason people think the DE is normalish size is because Arnold Schwarzenegger's hand is just that big.
lens flair = realizm
This just helped me realize how much I don't care about realistic game graphics. As cool as all of this is, it doesn't change the game in any meaningful way, it is the same game, perhaps with some of the artstyle ruined. Reminds me of how some new games look amazing but aren't all too fun.
I don't know how many people are happy doing this, but I can personally play games on low settings fine. Even l4d2 I can play happy on low and after some time I won't even remember what the settings are at.
I feel like people who care this much about graphics are the same to always play games with an fps counter shown, obsessing over the performance. But we really should care less about graphics, care less about staring at an fps counter, and just enjoy the game. Let yourself be lost in the game for hours on end.
haha I feel called out with the fps counter. I know what you're getting at though and mostly agree. I'd also say what passes as realism to most is laughable, it's just military esq chic and heavily saturated filters.

Graphics matter though. People always talk shit about graphics being important, but a vast majority of them would pick the good graphics version of a game over an outdated bad one.

I'm kinda glad that the game came out so long ago. If the game came out today, there'd be weekly/monthly battlepasses (that you have to buy), it'd be live service, require you to always be online, have 50 paid dlc maps (that are poorly thrown together), have game changing features locked behind a DLC, and after a year or two, the servers would go down, you'd lose everything you ever had, and you'd no longer have access to the game despite buying it.

I think the closest to a zombie game with somewhat a realism feel is No More Room in Hell. It's a free-to-play game that used to be a Source mod that emphasizes on realism and immersion. Played it a ton and it's a lot of fun especially the objective maps.
NMRiH will have a sequel that will be released hopefully around this year (probably this November) on Early Access with a more modern and upgraded feel, especially that the devs are working on it full time. Hopefully it will turn out great since the first game is what I look for in a zombie game.
Totally agree
Big fan of this game played it a ton as a kid
When there is no more room in hell
The dead will walk the earth
No More Room in Hell actually got one of my friends to buy me L4D cause we hated No More Room so much and he wanted to play that.
No More Room is really interesting with the whole slower, survival-type aspect of completing an objective but the game is ruined by zombies respawning. It completely invalidates the survival and resource management aspect.
My favorite L4D2 realism mods are the ones that turn all of the graffiti in the game into Jaden Smith's weirdass twitter posts, and another one that makes the hunters scream SHIA SURPRISE! every time they jump. It's very atmospheric having to ponder what our eyes are while Shia Lebeouff is getting on all fours and breaking into a sprint behind me.
The endgame of making games as realistic as possible is that the game themes actually happen in real life.

Dude L4D2 brought all my old friends I hadn't seen in years together, it was that good. So many LAN parties. The good 'ole days.
bro said cod is one of the most realistic shooters
The game he mentioned has some of the best graphics and most realistic weapon models and animations out of the whole cod series which is probably what he meant
Left 4 dead relastic❎
Left 4 dead cinematic✅
"i started by making the pavement super reflective for some reason"
18:13 listen man, I've been trying something similar to that for a couple years now. My dev team is like 3 dudes and a meatball sub, so I can't promise anything soon, but glad to know there's at least one ratlobber out there wishing for a game like that.
I want it too
Any update?
Reshade is ironic because its goal is to improve the game's graphics but it has the downside of making it look worse, including the HUD
Also, much of the "Modern Warfare" weapon mods who are by one author aren't actually from Modern Warfare. When I called the author out on this they blocked me lol
From where tho? Just curious now
@@fantastikboom1094 it's been a while since I checked, but i remember some were from other COD games like Black Ops Cold War, but this wasn't specified in the mod descriptions so when I corrected him, Mav blocked me. Some aren't even from COD - they're just the same L4D weapon like the chainsaw or golf club, but they slap the MW19 branding over it with no explanation as to why? Is it the animations? MW19 had no chainsaw or golf club. It's just a perplexing choice.
I can only assume they were concerned about trying to maintain a sense of quality rather than being truthful. It's weird though, because the collection containing those mods is called Warzone ports which is more accurate because those guns were ported to Warzone - but he still claims they are from Modern Warfare 2019 for whatever reason. There's a distinction between Warzone and Modern Warfare that Mav doesn't seem to realise. Ah well, I quit modding L4D2 a while ago anyway so I don't really care if a mod author won't let me comment on mods I'm not gonna see. It's still a bit of a bummer though that I'm not allowed to set the record straight.
It amazes me how much you can make L4D and GMoD look like real life, this is why I subscribed to you
For a 15 year old game, L4D2 is phenomenal, and looking at how Back4Blood is severely lacking in attention to detail (gameplay wise), I don't think it's unfair to say that Valve truly went ham on L4D2.
Shout-out to modders for making the game more entertaining
Kind of strange how other content creators say "This is so and so, thanks for watching", but Ratlobber says "I've BEEN Ratlobber, thanks for watching".
Kind of like Ratlobber is his character he steps into to do these videos.
I only have a single question about SSR - in what reality is a dry concrete reflective?
Insane video, thank you soooo much! i have a friend that doesnt like left 4 dead 2 that much (but still thinks its a good game) and instead he likes games like unrecord, ready or not, call of duty and a lot of other tactical games, and thanks to ratlobber, i bet i can make him love left 4 dead 2 because of the collection that you put in the description.
Making Left 4 Dead as Realistic as Possible
no shit
real
Ratlobber never fails to make me think "This would be much easier if he just ported the maps into Gmod"
I have over 1K hours in L4D2 on PC alone, so I don't mind the game having some kind of overhaul in graphics and weapons
dude, this is such a plot twist, you are a genious I also had the hopes that someone would had felt this way about left 4 dead as well. I am doing this whole things TODAY!
Thank you Ratlobber for making videos
The one thing I hate about reshade is how it looks like your character is working off of half an hour of sleep with how blurry and faded stuff looks.
It's even worse when you throw chromatic aberration on.
It's a shame because there's some really cool features in reshade too.
Is there any way to turn off bloom? That would help.
“Before I start just downloading mods to make it look better, I’m gonna download mods to make it look better”
Wow... Thank you for this video. It really opened my eyes for such an amazing new experience. An very very strong reason to go back to L4D
i dont really like shaders due to it just making things shiny that arent suppoused to be shiny
zoomer brain the video
Zoomer brain the pfp
you have anime pfp, stfu
Nvidia Remix Tools have been slowly rolling out to the public. You could get L4D2 to run with actual raytracing with that tool. Hard part is figuring out how.
Also if you're on Nvidia GeForce Experience has GeForce Filters, which are built-in Reshade style shaders / filters. It takes some tweaking but you could approximate the look here with less of a drag on performance.
@@therexbellator I use those filters daily and I completely disagree. Yes, you can improve the look of a game with them and they do look quite nice. But they do not come even close to competing with Remix and it’s raytracing with fully remastered assets and textures.
@@Stezell I said "Also" I'm not correcting you, it is there for anyone who has access to them. Not everyone has the most recent RTX card, myself included :b
To be honest, it makes sense why some of the cars looks clean. L4d2 did start two weeks after the infection began.
you know it's an OG l4d2 player when he:
magdumps ak47 against 3 common infected
will use reshade, but play at default viewmodelfov settings
does NOT like default magnum model
walks when firing autoshotgun but holds W key when firing rifles
can't hit unalerted common infected without missing 3/4 of his rifle magazine
wishes he could aim downsights
ratlobber never fails to fill me up
If you want to experience something like l4d, but as a tactical fps, you should check out SCP 5K
I used to love this game! At some point back then I learned to mod the actual weapons, since the game doesn't have realistic clip sizes for most of them. With realistic clip sizes, like 5 shells in the small shotgun & 30 rounds for the assault rifles, the game became more challenging.
It's usually 6 for shotguns? I agree tho, just saying.
13:53 that straight up looks like Mirrors Edge Catalyst, and I love it
SCP 5k is probably the closest game you'll get to a mix between L4D and RoN. But then again SCP 5K isn't just zombies.
The original rag doll physics made it more realistic. They should have never changed it, the way zombies dropped from headshots was so satisfying.
9:43 that tactical version of bill is an literal division agent lol
i love og art style. But damn the way the game looks with all the mods/shaders it looks great
ratlobber never fails to make me
>realistic
>mw animations
Yeah no pal lol
Yes, pal. It is realistic, even if it isn't literally real life.
@@olivercharles2930 no pal, its not. Cope harder
I fucking love Ratlobbers's content. He has the perfect format, amazing editing style, and great commentary. Keep up the great work man. these vids are addictive.
This is freakin awesome, it’s great to see a favorite game of a past generation still having a vibrant and very much alive culture around it. Beautiful video as well. Now… you gotta make the most scuffed L4D2 experience 😂
