  • In the 2nd Episode of out 2024 Metric Street Stock Build for a Dirt Track Street Stock, I am showing how to mount the engine and transmission. This engine has set back, has rearward angle, and has left leaning angle. I am showing a quick and easy way to get all of that right the first time.

    Jason, I'm a real life racer as well as an iracer. I don't believe in buying my setups, rather prefer doing my own. Thanks to you and your builds, I have a lot better understanding of what each adjustment is and what it will do. It also helped me with helping my brother with his racecar setups and figuring out how to make it handle better(front wheel drive). Keep the builds and eraser board classes coming. You never know how much you are helping some of us "do it yourselfers" get better.

    Really enjoy watching your build videos.. You are right building it with complete engine and trans in first.. I did that with one more adventure I built mine to accommodate a Chevy and be able to switch to a Ford engine with no issues. Double bolt pattern mid plate, motor mounts bolt up on same stands, use same power steering pump, double pass radiator and both engine designs using passenger side water pump inlet makes it a breeze.. Building a car the right way first makes it easy to work on when that time comes... Keep up the good work.. Oh for the ones that might say why the Ford engine, I won with it so guess it was not a bad move..

      There is NOTHING wrong with a ford. In my opinion you would see more fords at the street stock level if you would just let the guys do two things. 1- cut any frame down to 108" that puts a whole lot more chassis into play. 2- Allow a 302 block with a 347 stroker crank. there are tons of 302's everywhere and that stroker kit is cheap and adds a ton of bottom end torque.
      just those two things and suddenly you'd see a mixed field of fords and chevys again!

      @@DIRTRACELIFE I have noticed that some racing sanctions allow Ford in GM chassis that is what I did got my local dirt track back in 2019 to allow mixing manufacturers Speedway Illustrated had an article about a car that ran the Bristol street stock dirt races that was a GM metric chassis with a 351c engine that ran good. Problem having now is not many aftermarket cast iron heads heads being made for Fords. World Products only one doing any now Dart discontinued all cast iron Ford head castings and Speedmaster which had problems not making any now and Ford Racing no longer making their cast iron heads not much to work from.. Not much used aftermarket heads for Ford neither.. If EQ would step up like they did for Chevrolet and Dodge would make things better..

      If you go back to my first build I did a lot of one hour videos. What most people dont know is I usually shoot non stop in the shop and a 30 minute video will actually be 2 or 3 hours of footage that I then edit and trim like crazy to get down to the final episode. CZcams pays attention to how long people watch my videos. If I make a 1 hour video and people only watch half of it and then click off, then CZcams computers see that and say hmmm guess that video sucks and they dont promote it as much to other viewers. So over time I have learned that I have to get them down to about 20 to 30 minutes where guys watch the whole thing through. A lot of times it would be much easier for me to make it an hour 😉

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před dnem

      I could see that being possible. I get very good performance by using lug nuts but of course heat with slow cooling softens them just like any other nut. they are just so much overkill to start with is probably why I see years of use with zero issues.

    Nice video. I'm sure you're working it out, on the effect of side tilt, to the carb float bowl. In my mind it's not terribly hard to figure out, it just takes a little bit of work. I'm sure we'll see it in the future. I mean, the late model guys side tilt their engines, why can't you. Keep building, we'll keep watching.

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I was not real sure exactly how much but I knew it would be a benefit to the carb so I just went with 2 degrees. Not enough to hurt anything or make it hard to mount parts but give us some benefit. kind of an educated guess 😀

    100 percent out of curiosity would it make any difference if the crankshaft was centered to the actual center of the car instead of the frame rails meaning finding the center the same was as making the left side hub faces square and the right front 1 inch farther out than right rear or would it not make enough of a difference to bother with it

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 8 měsíci

      I don't think it would make any significant difference. It would just be offsetting the engine in general and if needed do that but I don't think it is about centering to hub faces in any way.

    🤔 Allowing for better Oil drain back in the motor matched with a good oil pan that traps the oil around the pick-up should be more than sufficient so that tilting the motor to the side isn't needed. I do tilt my motors backwards.
    With that said, I've raised my motors, I've lowered my motors and I've shifted the motor side to side... but, I've never tilted my motor to the side.

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 8 měsíci +1

      As far as rotation to the left, really after the benefit to the carb on that part. I agree, the oil pans we use can handle just about any angle we will see on track but it still all helps a little bit and you never know it could possibly reduce some crank windage from slosh up on the right side rail of the block.

    • @RichFife
      @RichFife Před 8 měsíci +1

      @DIRTRACELIFE we run canton oil pans with crank scrapers, bolt in mesh inserts... we're not worried about the slosh... I have a tendency to overthink things, but I feel as if tilting the motor to the side is an unnecessary step... but to each their own. Definitely look forward to seeing this build progress. This spring, I start my new Camaro tube chassis... and a destroked 400cid (393)...
