    When you play the credit card game, it's almost inevitable to get declined on a credit card application at some point.
    Whether it's because you've gotten too many recent credit inquiries or you have too many outstanding accounts, sometimes the credit card issuer just doesn't feel like approving you for a new credit card and giving you that signup bonus that you've been craving.
    In these situations, you should never take no for an answer! Always ask the credit card issuer to reconsider their decision and offer an explanation for any underlying credit factors you feel that might've contributed to the decision.
    The reconsideration process can often help you turn that denial into an approval. I'll share with you some of my own reconsideration experiences in the video, too.
    And if that doesn't work, all is not lost - consider applying for the card under another household member, or simply wait a while and try again later, focusing on new credit cards that pull from the other credit bureau in the meantime.

    For CIBC, I was applying for the Dividend VIsa Infinite Card. I was denied but I was pre-approved for the Dividend Visa Platinum with the welcome bonus of 10% cash back up to $200 on the first $2000. My limit was $5,000. After the welcome bonus, I inquired about a product switch to the Aeroplan Visa Platinum (didn't know Cobalt existed at this time so I thought I could start getting points with the Aeroplan). I told them I originally wanted the Dividend Visa Infinite and they said, yeah you qualify for it.

    Do you have any videos about rebuilding credit after a Canadian bankruptcy or consumer proposal.
    That is the journey I am on, my goal is to get credit from where I have bank accounts with TD, Tangerine and Simplii. They each have low household income cards. Then I found out TD owns MBNA that also has a low household income card.
    As I rebuild my savings and credit I currently have Capital One annual fee $59 with a nice credit limit of $5,000 and now Canadian Tire credit limit $500.
    I think the Canadian Tire card is horrible, but they approved me so I will use them to rebuild my credit.

      I went on a binge recently and have six cards all new as I’m just back in Canada after 18 yrs.
      My Experian FICO which suffered the brunt of the inquiries went in five months from low 700’s to 620. Trans union so far is holding steady at 710.
      FYI I have a perfect payment history, but only six months old. As well as a very low debt to credit ratio.
      I’m hoping in three months I’m laughing about this. Cuz right now I’m in a very sad mood!
      Normally it takes about five months to go from zero to 730-745 with two cards. So I am confident that a further three months should get me close to 735-750.
      Fingers crossed!

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  Před 3 lety +1

      It really depends on your credit file, how long you've had credit, how good your payment history has been, etc. There's no firm answer, and the generally advised approach is to keep applying for cards until you get declined - then take it easy for 3-6 months before starting again.

    • @michaelreid8857

      You know most banks really just go on the honour system regarding income statements.
      And if they did ask you to provide proof, you could always tell them your accountant lossed your file and it may take a while to get duplicate papers.
      Now technically, it could be construed as fraud if you were to lie about your income. So I would never advise anyone to misrepresent facts in an application. No matter how slim the chance is, that you would get caught. Because even though there’s a 99.99999% chance of this working out the way you desire. There’s always that .000001% chance that something could go wrong.
      However, you should remember that it is perfectly legal to combine your total household income as well as report anticipated income to the lender.
      Therefore, are you perhaps expecting a job offer soon? or perhaps your wife expects to start working very soon.
      Good luck with this dilemma!

  • @michaelreid8857
    @michaelreid8857 Před 3 lety +1

    In theory you are correct about using different credit bureaus with different lenders. However in practice this is a bit flawed
    Unfortunately, the FICO algorithms drop points, as new credit is added to your file. It usually takes about 60-120 days, to recover from this input of brand new credit.(depending on the amount of new credit reporting).
    So if in January, you get an Amex Card which pulls from Trans union. Your FICO is still going to drop slightly in February, when the card is reported to both credit bureaus.
    Your looking at March or April, for your FICO to recover. The only way to do this quickly, is if both bureaus are decent.
    Apply for an Amex and a TD which use different bureaus. Do this within 3-4 weeks of each other and your good. Only then remember, your gonna have two new cards report back to back and your FICO will drop for 3-4 months!

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  Před 3 lety +1

      Right. But if your Amex one was _declined_ , then there'd be no new credit account to report. The only impact would be to TransUnion because of the new inquiry, so you're still good to apply for Equifax. All of the issuers will report the tradeline to both bureaus if you get _approved_ , which results in the temporary dip you're referring to.
