Y’all are haters, I love it. Some people’s lives are this bleak and have this kind of an atmosphere. Beats the cheese-ball, on-the-nose, PG-style 2018 version by far.
The children screaming around the 42:48 mark is a genuine reaction. Rob Zombie has said in interviews that the children didnt see the actor in the full Michael costume until that moment -- so yes, those screams are of pure fear from them.
What sucks is the remake has a much better setup and it’s great in the second half. But I HATTTTEEEEEE that scene. I genuinely hated it. But I did love the ending. I never felt so conflicted for a film.
John Carpenter wrote the Halloween score and co-created Michael Myers with Debra Hill. So whenever you hear that theme or see Michael in a film, he’s getting royalties. When asked what he thought of this film, he basically said “I liked receiving the check.” I think that pretty much sums it up.

Yeah, this movie is REALLY heavy and dark, so I recommend looking up the blooper reel because there is some GOLD. Malcolm McDowell especially is just having the time of his life messing with the other actors and making them laugh.
While you can probably go either way for the 1st movie, I can't stress enough that the director's cut for Halloween 2 should absolutely be the way to go if you watch that movie. It's a much more human film, focused on Laurie's emotions and her trauma and her difficulties in coping (girl, it is not pretty...), and the ending is just more conclusive. It's also a little weirder, and there's no sexual assault scenes from what I remember. Also fun fact, yes, Annie in this film is played by Danielle Harris, also known as Jamie Lloyd! I wish she had gotten a part in the new trilogy tbh
HARD AGREE on this, the director's cut is the way to go. The sequel honestly fixes Alanda's biggest gripe with this movie in that it puts Laurie back at the center and it's probably one of the realest, ugliest portrayals of Final Girl PTSD we've ever gotten in a horror movie and the director's cut is the version that actually lets that breathe.
💯 agree! I think the unrated cut of Halloween II really makes this one retroactively better (sort of the opposite of the original Halloween II). Quadruples down on the bleakness, but in a way that feel poignant, whereas this one on its own is just kind of grueling.
I do like how this version gives Michael the classic serial killer background: bad childhood environment, no good parental figures, bullied, killing small animals. I like how it makes his transition to the monster of Michael Myers’s as understandable. It matches the gritty tone of this version very well. The only thing though that makes it feel off is knowing it’s a product of its time. Rob Zombie always having this outdated late 90’s/early 2000’s grittiness that’s a bit too over the top sometimes.
40 minutes and I realize Annie's father (the cop) was Brad Dourif (Chucky). It's so strange whenever I hear that voice coming out of a human man and not a killer doll
I think ever since 2007 people would debate what is scarier, a Myers that is a realistic depiction of a serial killer, or “the shape” who is not even a man, just an entity.
I like Malcolm McDowell’s approach to playing Loomis, as like a Doctor who really cares for his patients and feels guilt and self failure for being unable to help Michael and doing what he must to stop him. It helps him feel distinct and separate from Donald Pleasence performance.
I'm with you, Alanda. This isn't quite my speed either. Feels halfway like a true crime documentary for the first two-thirds and then they speed-run the original film in the final act, giving us no time to grow attached to Laurie. Fun reaction though as I was never going to revisit this timeline alone. If you want something more ultra-stylized and a good whodunnit, may I suggest *Deep Red (1975)* or *Suspiria (1977)* . Giallo films have been name-dropped in Scream 4 and Scream 6 so I think it's time to get acquainted! Also, we've been hanging out in modern horror for a while but there are still some classics left to discover. Have you seen Psycho (1960), Rosemary's Baby (1968), The Shining (1980), An American Werewolf in London (1981), Fright Night (1985), Hellraiser (1987), They Live (1988) etc...? And not to pile on too many requests, I know you're struggling with the Friday the 13th series but I wouldn't be opposed to skipping some to get to Jason X and Freddy vs Jason.
I would LOVE to see Alanda’s reaction to Rosemary’s Baby; it’s such a masterpiece. Psycho would be amazing too; so many crazy twists and turns in that one.
After editing for days, I can honestly say that these are my exact feelings on this film. Word for word - heavy on the not being able to get attached to Laurie! With the exception of Deep Red (which I’ll look into) all these movies are on my list! Hopefully I can push some up in the schedule soon!! I think it’s so cute that you feel like we’re there when you when you film reactions! That’s why I started watching reactions in the first place. My grandmother was my movie/tv buddy and since she passed away I don’t really watch anything alone anymore. And since I’ve been single a while I just need that “company” to enjoy movies. True story: My dad took me to see this movie when I was around 7 because I was a Halloween fanatic (even at that young age) and BEGGED him to 😅 Was it the right parenting decision? Perhaps not, lmao, but I loved it and honestly cherish the memory 😆

I saw Scream VI in theaters recently and there were multiple children (running around and taking photos of the screen with flash-the absolute worst, lol) and even a baby, who kept crying. I honestly wish our theater had that policy bc they’re a nuisance 😆 but I’m also glad they don’t, bc my dad and grandma took me to see any R rated horror movie I wanted, growing up, haha

I’ve always appreciated how they gave laurie more independence at the end of this film, opposed to Loomis rescuing her at the end. I think the sudden ending of the gunshot and then the family photo of michael and laurie as a baby is one of my favorite endings in a horror movie ever
i will say this; rob zombie’s halloween is definitely intense. i personally find his version of michael myers scarier by far especially in the sequel. it’s definitely not giving the same energy as the original halloween film but considering how muddy that original timeline got (twice btw) i think the simplicity of rob zombie’s halloween and halloween II really do well at telling the story without all the extra supernatural-esque bits.
I'm a Rob Zombie fan and his versions of Halloween. I love horror movie but these movies are so brutal I look away but it really gave me more of an understanding of Michael Myers when you see me that was his upbringing.. And then in the second part when he was having the visions of his mother it put me in mind of a mental disorder. And I literally felt he was not all there mentally and he was just trying to get his sister to his mother, the 1 person that loved him and supported him his whole life, so that they could be a family together. I'm not gonna lie at the end when they stabbed him and walked out and left him in the barn dead I had tears in my eyes I felt so bad for Michael. He was a Killer but also because of the way Rob Zombie set it up I also saw him as a boy who had such a traumatic childhood that it formed the murderous monster he became.
I watched this movie when it first came out and I could not make it past Laurie's introduction with her use of the bagel. That "not my Laurie" was real! I couldn't with these remakes.

Ken Foree just came on screen and you reacted and that reminds me! You've yet to watch George Romero's original DAWN OF THE DEAD from 1978, my #1 favorite horror film of all-time and which Ken Foree is the lead and the zombie film that was the template for ALL zombie media that we have today. Even decades later, it still stands as a crowning achievement in unsettling, fun, artful, smart, thoughtful horror and it's satirical point about consumer culture is more relevant than ever. The original DAWN is MY warm blanket. My comfort movie, despite its ULTRA gory violence (but you have seen worse gut munching on THE WALKING DEAD, where your channel got its start). When THE WALKING DEAD was still just a comic and and Robert Kirkman was discussing its origins, he confessed that basically he wanted to make a version of DAWN OF THE DEAD that never ended. That just went on and on and on. And I think if you watch it (the Extended Cannes Cut is the best version, the one that runs 139 minutes), you'll want the same thing as well. (I think the remake sucks. It's a commercialized, watered down, empty, vapid, big and dumb copy of the brilliant original by a director I find insufferable losing all the depth of what Romero, a hippie humanist, had to say).

Yeah Alanda, the bully from the beginning that was in fact the little brother from Spy Kids lol. And also, the actress who played Judith (Michael's sister) in beginning that was little Jenny from Forest Gump. I was excited when this first came out I even won tickets to see it a day early, I actually really enjoyed this remake. I thought Zombie did a solid job despite the writing and the reason for the way Michael became evil. I also enjoy the creativity Zombie did with this as well pretty cool also that he got a blessing from John Carpenter (Director of the 1978 film) it's still a rewatchable movie to this day wild that it's almost 20 years old. I have seen the Unrated Directors Cut to this I perfer the Theatrical version so im glad you did this one. Great reaction, hopefully you'll do the sequel Zombie did also. It's a wild ride. If you do then you've completed the franchise. 👌 for now... Lol.
Also if you can’t handle SA, which is totally fine I get it, I would avoid his firefly family trilogy (house of 1000 corpses, the devils rejects, and 3 from hell) just to give you that forewarning now :)
There is a bleakness to Rob Zombie movies that make them very hard for me to sit through. He anchors them with characters that tend to feel real to me, which brings it to another level of disturbing. There are books, like Night, Ive only been able to read because i was on a sunny beach somewhere. His movies are the same. Make sure youre in a good head space for these.
After these bleak, bleak movies, I would love to see a reaction to Hatching! A very underrated foreign horror flick, with some incredible animatronic effects
I despise the Rob Zombie Halloween reboots, but I LOVE your commentary. The reason why I think this version is so off-putting is because slasher movies should have a sense of fun to them, but in this one the violence feels exploitative and mean-spirited.

The Rob Zombie Halloweens are definitely their own breed and not everyone's cup of tea. Thank you for another fabulous reaction queen, I'm glad you didn't completely hate this one. The sequel is a very unconventional Halloween movie; the director's cut is the way to go when you make it there; there is about 15 minutes more of plot and it's edited much more cohesively. It's a brutal bleak movie about PTSD and how everyone who survived this one is coping with it, with some Michael Myers shenanigans thrown in for good measure lol. It is most definitely not a feel good film in any way, and it's probably even more brutal than this one, but I think it's a great character study. Thank you for always keeping us fed and for the words of affirmation you always give us, you're my favorite CZcamsr and I can't wait to see what movie is up next!
I've never been a huge fan of these remakes tbh. But just like Halloween 6, there are two versions of these movies. Also, in the directors cut, Michael killed the nurse because she said something about him wearing masks or something like that.

I like Malcolm McDowell’s approach to playing Loomis, as like a Doctor who really cares for his patients and feels guilt and self failure for being unable to help Michael and doing what he must to stop him. It helps him feel distinct and separate from Donald Pleasence performance.
Bring It On being recommended next for you is SO real like girl you need something smooth to watch after😂😂😂
I'm with you, Alanda. This isn't quite my speed either. Feels halfway like a true crime documentary for the first two-thirds and then they speed-run the original film in the final act, giving us no time to grow attached to Laurie. Fun reaction though as I was never going to revisit this timeline alone.
If you want something more ultra-stylized and a good whodunnit, may I suggest *Deep Red (1975)* or *Suspiria (1977)* . Giallo films have been name-dropped in Scream 4 and Scream 6 so I think it's time to get acquainted! Also, we've been hanging out in modern horror for a while but there are still some classics left to discover. Have you seen Psycho (1960), Rosemary's Baby (1968), The Shining (1980), An American Werewolf in London (1981), Fright Night (1985), Hellraiser (1987), They Live (1988) etc...?
And not to pile on too many requests, I know you're struggling with the Friday the 13th series but I wouldn't be opposed to skipping some to get to Jason X and Freddy vs Jason.
I would LOVE to see Alanda’s reaction to Rosemary’s Baby; it’s such a masterpiece. Psycho would be amazing too; so many crazy twists and turns in that one.
After editing for days, I can honestly say that these are my exact feelings on this film. Word for word - heavy on the not being able to get attached to Laurie!

I think it’s so cute that you feel like we’re there when you when you film reactions! That’s why I started watching reactions in the first place. My grandmother was my movie/tv buddy and since she passed away I don’t really watch anything alone anymore. And since I’ve been single a while I just need that “company” to enjoy movies.

True story: My dad took me to see this movie when I was around 7 because I was a Halloween fanatic (even at that young age) and BEGGED him to 😅 Was it the right parenting decision? Perhaps not, lmao, but I loved it and honestly cherish the memory 😆

@@leonore2573 hm, that’s interesting! our theater has a sign out front that says all customers 17 and under must have a parent with them for R rated films. I saw Scream VI in theaters recently and there were multiple children (running around and taking photos of the screen with flash-the absolute worst, lol) and even a baby, who kept crying. I honestly wish our theater had that policy bc they’re a nuisance 😆 but I’m also glad they don’t, bc my dad and grandma took me to see any R rated horror movie I wanted, growing up, haha

I’ve always appreciated how they gave laurie more independence at the end of this film, opposed to Loomis rescuing her at the end. I think the sudden ending of the gunshot and then the family photo of michael and laurie as a baby is one of my favorite endings in a horror movie ever
i will say this; rob zombie’s halloween is definitely intense. i personally find his version of michael myers scarier by far especially in the sequel. it’s definitely not giving the same energy as the original halloween film but considering how muddy that original timeline got (twice btw) i think the simplicity of rob zombie’s halloween and halloween II really do well at telling the story without all the extra supernatural-esque bits.
Definitely scarier 😭 I actually love his versions because I was actually scared at times

I'm a Rob Zombie fan and his versions of Halloween. I love horror movie but these movies are so brutal I look away but it really gave me more of an understanding of Michael Myers when you see me that was his upbringing.. And then in the second part when he was having the visions of his mother it put me in mind of a mental disorder. And I literally felt he was not all there mentally and he was just trying to get his sister to his mother, the 1 person that loved him and supported him his whole life, so that they could be a family together. I'm not gonna lie at the end when they stabbed him and walked out and left him in the barn dead I had tears in my eyes I felt so bad for Michael. He was a Killer but also because of the way Rob Zombie set it up I also saw him as a boy who had such a traumatic childhood that it formed the murderous monster he became.
So glad you choose this version. The SA scene in the directors cut was so unnecessary
I watched this movie when it first came out and I could not make it past Laurie's introduction with her use of the bagel. That "not my Laurie" was real! I couldn't with these remakes.
At least the bagel gesture was not in the theatrical version.
@@emanuelespinoza9325 SMH, none of it should've been made. Rob Zombie's shitting on John Carpenter was unnecessary. Plus, RZ made a film for people and himself, who can't think for themselves. RZ stating he wanted answers to EVERYTHING... basically ruining the idea of "the Boogeyman".

When you make the character a cliche and you find whatever reason to put your wife in the film, to get naked... I'd also say, it's pointless. IMO
It makes it even sadder this kicks off when Loomis says he’s ending their relationship. Michael had no one left.

I second Oculus! I think it would be perfect,it's not hugely gross/gory/graphic but it's more about the atmosphere and psychological aspects.

I love seeing Brad Dourif in the flesh! Like the Chucky voice always delivers but we forget the man was nominated for an oscar for Cuckoos Nest! Lol it does my heart good to see him getting normal roles. And Danielle Harris! Loved seeing her.

Ken Foree just came on screen and you reacted and that reminds me! You've yet to watch George Romero's original DAWN OF THE DEAD from 1978, my #1 favorite horror film of all-time and which Ken Foree is the lead and the zombie film that was the template for ALL zombie media that we have today. Even decades later, it still stands as a crowning achievement in unsettling, fun, artful, smart, thoughtful horror and it's satirical point about consumer culture is more relevant than ever. The original DAWN is MY warm blanket. My comfort movie, despite its ULTRA gory violence (but you have seen worse gut munching on THE WALKING DEAD, where your channel got its start). When THE WALKING DEAD was still just a comic and and Robert Kirkman was discussing its origins, he confessed that basically he wanted to make a version of DAWN OF THE DEAD that never ended. That just went on and on and on. And I think if you watch it (the Extended Cannes Cut is the best version, the one that runs 139 minutes), you'll want the same thing as well.
(I think the remake sucks. It's a commercialized, watered down, empty, vapid, big and dumb copy of the brilliant original by a director I find insufferable losing all the depth of what Romero, a hippie humanist, had to say).

Yeah Alanda, the bully from the beginning that was in fact the little brother from Spy Kids lol. And also, the actress who played Judith (Michael's sister) in beginning that was little Jenny from Forest Gump. I was excited when this first came out I even won tickets to see it a day early, I actually really enjoyed this remake. I thought Zombie did a solid job despite the writing and the reason for the way Michael became evil. I also enjoy the creativity Zombie did with this as well pretty cool also that he got a blessing from John Carpenter (Director of the 1978 film) it's still a rewatchable movie to this day wild that it's almost 20 years old. I have seen the Unrated Directors Cut to this I perfer the Theatrical version so im glad you did this one. Great reaction, hopefully you'll do the sequel Zombie did also. It's a wild ride. If you do then you've completed the franchise. 👌 for now... Lol.
Also if you can’t handle SA, which is totally fine I get it, I would avoid his firefly family trilogy (house of 1000 corpses, the devils rejects, and 3 from hell) just to give you that forewarning now :)

There is a bleakness to Rob Zombie movies that make them very hard for me to sit through. He anchors them with characters that tend to feel real to me, which brings it to another level of disturbing. There are books, like Night, Ive only been able to read because i was on a sunny beach somewhere. His movies are the same. Make sure youre in a good head space for these.

The reason why I think this version is so off-putting is because slasher movies should have a sense of fun to them, but in this one the violence feels exploitative and mean-spirited.

This movie is awesome, it doesnt live up to the original 1978 but that would be hard to do since the original is a masterpiece. Rob zombies backstory to why michael turned into a killer is what kinds ruined it for me though. I wish they left it more of a mystery

The Rob Zombie Halloweens are definitely their own breed and not everyone's cup of tea. Thank you for another fabulous reaction queen, I'm glad you didn't completely hate this one. The sequel is a very unconventional Halloween movie; the director's cut is the way to go when you make it there; there is about 15 minutes more of plot and it's edited much more cohesively. It's a brutal bleak movie about PTSD and how everyone who survived this one is coping with it, with some Michael Myers shenanigans thrown in for good measure lol. It is most definitely not a feel good film in any way, and it's probably even more brutal than this one, but I think it's a great character study.

I've never been a huge fan of these remakes tbh. But just like Halloween 6, there are two versions of these movies.
Also, in the directors cut, Michael killed the nurse because she said something about him wearing masks or something like that.
