    Good stuff! I’m from Michigan planning a trip to San Diego in July. My goal is to catch and cook some fish out there from shore or pier. Catching a Halibut would be great but I’m open to anything (“edible”). I’ve been going through your videos absorbing the knowledge. Thanks for the content!

      @@evanherrera5948 yeah. Catching rainbows at Big Bear was pretty easy. I’d definitely recommend that. I didn’t do any pier fishing as we just didn’t have a lot of time. The Big Bear part of our trip had fishing built into the itinerary.

    Can you tell us what are the signs to look for or ideal conditions to start attempting to fish halibut on a charter boat?

    • @user-vx9wy6rk7d
      @user-vx9wy6rk7d  Před 5 lety +2

      Thats a hard one, as a passenger on a charter boat, you really at mercy of where the captain will go to fish for halibut. But utilizing a rig that targets the bottom, like a dropper loop setup does well when getting the halibut to bite.

      yeah alaska has quality halibut fishing, much like norway. monster halibuts. In norway we mostly use jigs, deadbait rigged with a heavy jighead and with a stinger or a sea boom or gliding boom. i use 75lb braid and 1.4mm shock leader.

    Do you know if a size 2 hook is better than a size 1 hook for this? I know a lot of people that use a size 2/0, so I am just wondering.

    • @user-vx9wy6rk7d
      @user-vx9wy6rk7d  Před rokem +1

      The "better" option is the one that matches the bait size the best. If you are fishing with a larger artificial or live sardine a 2/0 can work great. If the bait is smaller, we would recommend matching it with a smaller hook.

    • @axelmontage

    @playdirty714 Před 4 lety +1

    Great explanation but brow, your drop shot rig in the video shows the weight distance from the hook is more than 12+ inches. From what I can estimate, it's more like 15 inches which is usually the distance I've used and have had more success with this distance than 6-10 inches. Also if you are standing on a dock or a pier and casting, the angle of how high off you are will make the distance from the weight on the hook compared to casting from the sand/inshore.
