First Ever Live TV Performance of Westside in 1998 (Now known as Westlife)

- The new group, formed on the 3rd of July 1998, was renamed Westside but that name was already in use by another band, so it was changed to Westlife after a few months. It was revealed that Louis Walsh was already calling them Westlife before Westside name came along.
This is their first-ever live television performance as Westside and as a group in Ireland and around the world. It was broadcasted on the 13th of November 1998 in "The Late Late Show".
They performed here the song called "Flying Without Wings." During this time they've never released any single yet. Westlife debuts their first single on 19th of April 1999 with "Swear It Again."

Mark started out great and then got super nervous trying so hard to smile like someone (Simon Cowell, maybe?) kept telling him to, to show off his dimples. He sounded good until the smiling!
And then you can see him miss a note and have a split second of looking like he wants to cry, and then covering with the smile!
He's amazing now and has been for many years, just needed some experience.
He is the youngest one in the band with the biggest notes in the song. I can't fault him for it!
I think you over-analyze. It's their very first performance, it's okay if he's nervous. He was trying to find comfortable way to sing live.

@@cnovikamaharani I don't think you understand what I was trying to say. I definitely think it's alright! I'm a huge fan! I came from a video made comparing Westlife's performance of Total Eclipse of the Heart to One Direction's performance.
One Direction was created by Simon Cowell to be the next Westlife. After creating Westlife in the first place. And I was saying Mark's voice was better than everyone in One Direction. But, I think he was nervous here. I think every single one of them looks incredibly nervous here. And, I don't blame them at all. It's their first televised performance, they are young, they are trying to figure out what cameras to look at, and how to recover from a mistake.
I was just stating a reason why he might have started off this performance perfectly, almost sounding as good as he does now, but then starts to miss notes. Not saying that he was bad or whatever you think I was trying to say.
Shane's soothing, angelic voice remains pure and the same. Congratulations WESTLIFE! You remained humble and sweet until now.

You can see that they're so nervous here, especially Mark, but that was so understandable because this was their first live performance, as years passes by, they got better and better, Mark has finally can control the power of his voice, and they're still gorgeous until now 😁❤❤❤

Shane's voice is and was SO good I actually thought he was lip syncing at first! Mark's voice was amazing but over the years he's fine turned it.
