    In the 1970s, I had a used Hillman Imp Californian (cost me £100 to purchase lol) and the heater packed up. I didn't get it repaired, so drove around for 2 winters in the UK with no heater. It was rather chilly at times, and I remember having to scrape the ice from the inside of the windscreen (I did try not to breathe, but obviously had to every so often 😂😂) as I was driving along, plus had to stop every frequently to scrape the ice from the outside of the windscreen. I was only 20 then and can honestly say that having no heater didn't really bother me......though it definitely would now. I imagine that for some people having very little heat in the Ami will not bother them at all, and they will put up with and cope with the cold.

    Hi lads from Spain. We have several of those things from Lidl, for use around the house since we don't have central heating here. We do tend to find that the thermostatic control goes wrong fairly quickly and they are a devil to repair. Stay charged and keep warm, winter is coming.

    Well, the only thing that this gal from the Canadian prairies (the coldest place in Canada) can recommend is warm clothing, a plug in thermal heating blanket/throw, and these things called 'hot pocs' by Grabber that you put inside your gloves and boots. They have a chemical reaction when initiated and keep you toasty warm for hours. They even have 'bun warmers' for frosty seats and peel on body warmers. Apparently it's all the rage with the ice fishing and snowmobiling community! The bonus is that they don't draw one k watt of power and they aren't a fire hazard..... 😉

      I keep recommending you, and your channel, to all my friends too,
      keep up the great work, I must say, your editing and camera work is second to none, really professional, technical and sophisticated shooting techniques and brilliant beautiful editing to top it off.
      Thanks, it must take a long time but it’s definitely worth it, I can’t help thinking that you and Mr Boo would be perfect for a new series of “Wish you were here”, 😂. the quality of your work is good enough to compete with shows such as the one mentioned.
      Also, sorry to mither you,, you are probably really busy but, do you think could you tell us what the French/English song is called that you play when driving about?, the one with “Let’s rob a bank”I know all the words now, I can almost sing it all the way through,
      furthermore, I’m learning French from your show dag nammit 😂. I’ve been a truck driver for 20+years and those roads frighten me senseless, I used to deliver linen to hotels, so some of the places I’ve seen have been quite tight, but those roads are a different kettle of fish, your breaks would be on fire on some of those hills 😂. You 2 are crazy and, quite frankly, I applaud it, you never fail to make me laugh on your crazy adventures in your little Noddy car 😂.
      Thanks for teaching me French and making it a pleasure to learn, both at the same time!😂.

    That was fun and interesting, thanks guys! Tim, when you brought up the issue drafts and insulation, I thought how similar the Ami is to a light aircraft, how you often freeze your arse off with 200mph sub-zero drafts the measures I used to implement when doing new interiors on old airplanes. First, with the interior removed down to bare metal, I would use aluminum adhesive tape to seal cracks and seams. Good quality duct-tape or construction tape would also work but in aircraft I used aluminum because it met flame retardant regs., and that alone did more than installing insulation. you might be able to use tape to seal behind the windshield.
    Perhaps some spray-foam in a can might do well to seal some of the wind leaks, especially underneath, the stuff might not be flame-retardant but as long as you keep it away from electrical wires and systems and cables maybe not an issue.
    For insulation, I mostly used lightweight flame-retardant aircraft approved PVC closed-cell foam about 10m thick, and 3M spray contact cement to attach it directly to the airframe walls. Closed-cell foam does not absorb moisture, deadens exterior sound and vibration and insulates better than open-cell foam like you showed and I saw others installing behind panels. I also tried the reflective bubble wrap (Reflectix) but it did not seem much better than the foam for thermal insulation and did not deaden much sound.
    Padded floor mats might help. My aircraft upholstery guys used to glue 5mm insulating foam to wool blend carpet runners and removable mats and sew binding around the edges it was amazing how much engine heat and noise and vibration that stopped. A good upholstery shop or person could make a set of insulated wool-blend carpet inserts an Ami pretty fast and affordably.

    You want a proper 12volt connection yet USB peaks at only 5volt.
    You could either get a transformer that can boost 5v to 12v, or add a additional 12v accessory battery you could probably stash some place around the framework below the cabin or in front of it if theres any reasonable space. you could even take a battery apart and wire the cells in different locations of the vehicle as another solution if space is limited. You could also see if your car has individual 12v batteries, and if it doesnt, then get a buck step down transformer that matches what the battery pack is, that can be brought down to 12v say from 48 vor 60v or 72v depending on how they wired the AMI.

The key to optimum comfort is pre-heating / cooling, so that the vehicle is comfortable when you arrive to use it. • @stevezodiac491
    @stevezodiac491 Před 8 měsíci

    I have one of those lidl heated stab vests. By the way, they are supposed to be worn under a cardigan or such like, to retain the heat. When the family is at work and there is only me in the house ( retired) all day. Instead of putting the full central getting on, heating up the whole house expensively and wastefully, I just put the stab vest on sat watching TV, fed from my ecoflow, which I charge at night on octopus go at 9 p per kwhr after 00.30 hrs ( for our electric car really, but use it for the washer and tumble drier and now also the ecoflow). When the family comes back in we then put the central heating on, when it is not wasteful to do so, for a few hours. The stab vest starts out at 100 watts when it is cold but it then goes off and on to maintain the temp, usually only rising to about 50 watts. I can heat myself all day in the house for about 4 p on octopus go night time rate, they are very good. I think in the Ami, a small usb power pack heated and padded ganzi from Amazon, again worn under a coat or something, would be better, because you would not be tied up like with an umbilical cord to the stab vest from the power station, you will be free to get in and out. I also have one of those and they are also very good but you need to have several usb power packs because they don't last very long.

    This was well timed as I was asking myself what I was going to do for my sans permis van. The in built heater through the dashboard is useless. Influenced by one of your other videos I bought an AllPowers S200 battery pack (AllPowers were having a sale, don't know if they still are). It was 165 euros on Amazon. 115 chez AllPowers. So I came to the same conclusion by co-incidence, that it isn't a good idea to run an external heater straight off my vans 12v battery. One of the reasons I bought the battery pack.
    Have also bought one of those sun shades for a car windscreen. Which I'll reppurpose into a headliner for the cab. I'm considering taping bako foil to the ceiling, then having the headliner below that, held in by the "roll cage" using some velcro.

I just put 3mm cork in may flat on the walls and the feeled temperature change is amazing. And put the heater on the floor heat goes up cold air goes down the physik. Love your videos!

    Basic Maths and Physics will inform most people that in order to provide 360Watts of power, a 12 Volt battery will require 30 Amps of current passing through the wiring circuit. Now I am advised that 30 Amps can be a lethal amount of energy if handled the wrong way. It can also melt cheap wiring and plugs.
    Are you sure that you want to go down that road???

    • @benoit6026
      @benoit6026 Před 8 měsíci

      Yes, and in the usb socket, which is 5V, the current would be 72A... the wiring should be at least 10 mm2.

    • @TheOuttolunch
      @TheOuttolunch Před 8 měsíci

      But you are not running 360watts at 12 volts the heater is 230volt a/c. 12volt car sockets are usually rated at 10amps maximum
