Thank you! I wanted to talk about it more with many of the games. I didn’t even bring up the music for games like BOTW or Wind Waker. But, the video was already way longer than I originally intended so I had to cut some stuff.

Except for the Wind Waker character designs. I love how Toon Link looks and I will fight tooth, nail, and underwear on this point
Twilight Princess has bomb af stylisation and art direction, I completely (respectfully) disagree with people that say it aged poorly.

The graphics aged poorly, not really the art style. It has like a ds3 aesthetic and that game did it well cuz the graphics weren’t muddy
When played on a CRT it looks great. I recommend playing the GameCube version on that.

When you were reviewing the aesthetics of Zelda 1, you forgot to mention the manual, which brings the pixel art to life! There are so many detailed little drawings in that manual. Yes, it's inconsistent and was clearly all made by different people with their own view on what this game really looks like, but it all certainly has charm to it that shouldn't be dismissed. The manual and the game of Zelda 1 form this symbiotic relationship, where if you view one without the other, then you are missing a huge piece of what makes it special!

Wind Waker's art style has aged better than any other 3D game in the series.

Skyward Sword? Because that game uses a watercolor painting art style.
Botw and Totk are last gen but yeah WW holds up insanely well due to it's style.

I think across the many different art styles in the series, the one used in twilight princess/link's crossbow training is the best. I think it's the most "realistic" in a way.
I agree with you. Especially the HD remake. I didn’t really realize it until I recorded the footage for this video but it looks BEAUTIFUL. But it is also cool to see how the series has evolved artistically. TP gave us hyper-realistic, Wind Waker gave us cell shaded cartoon, and BOTW took a mix of both.
@@SweetsIsOnlineIn my opinion, the Twilight/Twilight Realm was ruined on the HD remaster.
I like more the OG Gamecube aesthetic with a lot of bloom on the Twilight/Twilight Realm that looks dreamy. Also, the bloom is a pulse.
They removed this effect on the HD remaster, toned down the bloom a lot and now the Twilight/ Twilight Realm look very flat.
Nothing beats the OG Gamecube aesthetic with a CRT TV.
@@saricubra2867yeah I played the wii version and the yellowy brackish look of the twilight really have a sense of contrast to the vibrant green overworld. In most HD videos it just doesn’t look as good. Maybe it’s the blurrier graphics and the HD version makes it too sharp and loses the dreamy effect idk

I also do… I just SPECIFICALLY don’t like the character designs, but everything else is absolutely beautiful

Really cool video! It sounds hard to rank zelda games on something as abstract as aesthetic, and its a very creative idea!
My favorite aesthetic is the windwaker "toon" style, it all feels really cohesive and was strong enough to reuse in many games going forward.
I also liked what you said about Link to the Past, I had never thought about how influential that game was in determining the "zelda aesthetic"

Crazy how everyone hated Wind Waker’s artstyle and aesthetic on release but it’s now (and rightfully so) the best of them all imo

BotW, OoT/MM and TP are definitely in the top. I like the character designs from BotW the best, but I'm not a fan of the cell shading and the very minimalist texture work. In that department TP is far superior
I can see this argument and I agree with what you’re saying about TP. As I said in the video, I personally think TOTK built on BOTW’s aesthetic so monumentally that I think that it’s the better one in terms of that. But BOTW is a game that I think could easily be argued into both higher and lower tiers.
Skyward sword though the first in the series took place Yeats after the great battle between demise and Hilia( sorry I probably didn't spell that right) that's why it was all ancient and stuff. Plus the soundtrack alone carries.
Very interesting how people see things differently, wind waker link is my favorite version of him in the series. But only in wind waker where there are smooth lines, it falls apart in the ds games

Hyrule Warriors being in a low tier is such a great take I’m tired of looking up anything zelda related on google images and seeing the same weird koei tecmo renders over and over again they need to just die at this point link in a scarf is cool though

I LOVE spirit tracks
The cutscenes go unnecessarily hard, the sanctuaries have gorgeous lighting, the underwater section is beautiful, the sound track is banger and the lowpoly pixelated sprites of the DS add charm for me
But super true that the regular grassy areas are pretty C tier though
Could you do a Zelda one that focuses entirely on music, because we all know ST and TP are top tier and anything lower is a crime

Kind of upset you said phantom hourglass is on the same level as Star Fox and Mario Sunshine. I feel like, “I wouldn’t k*** myself” would be a more fair ranking
That is one of the games that I had to debate myself about, it went back and forth a few times. In the end I settled on Mario Sunshine because it took almost only the things I didn’t like about Wind Waker’s aesthetic and put them on the DS which made it look worse.
If I'm being completely honest, I think botw had a more consistent asthetic than totk does. In tears there is the Skyland, hyrule surface, and depths, which I get aren't supposed to blend or match asthetics but the separation just feels different than breath of the wild. It's just my feeling about it at least
I understand this argument, but to me even though the different areas in were separate aesthetically, they still had something that pulled them all together and made me marvel about the atmosphere of the world. In BOTW most of the times I was confronted with the guardian aesthetic I was running away from a guardian or dreading having to do another shrine.
@@SweetsIsOnline yeah I respect that view of it. The guardians did throw off immersion especially in some areas exploring when you hear that music cue it feels like dread.

I really enjoyed hearing your take about not enjoying the way the characters are designed in wind waker! :0 personally that one is my favorite aesthetically, including the redesigns of the characters. One of the faults I do find with it is that I wish in general they exaggerated their characters structures more. Some of the pirates are exaggerated to a degree I enjoy, as is grandma, but otherwise, I wish they went a bit further with their shape based design.

I would say there are many disagreements between us on these rankings, but all are minor displacements, a tier or two off at most. Except for basing the last tier on Super Mario Sunshine. Sunshine may be a bad game (or so I've heard, I haven't actually played it), but aesthetically speaking, it's one of (if not "the") best looking 3d Mario games out there; leagues more aesthetically pleasing than Mario 64 or 3d World, imo.

Twilight Princess sweeps. It has some of my favorite/ the strongest aesthetic of any zelda game by a lot. Next closest is Majora’s Mask.

I have an idea for a new title….
Legend of Zelda: The Beacon of Hope
The game would have a dark western cowboy theme like twilight princess but have the vast open layout like breath of the wild and Tears of the Kingdom. The land will be scattered with different ranches, animals, characters, etc… Basically, instead of scattered shrines you will have huge ranches, farms, and villages scattered throughout the land that will be apart of the main story but also used for side quests and item fetching for certain goods that you will need throughout the game. Link is considered an average worker until the story and game progresses and by the end of the game he becomes a real cowboy that saves the land from outside intruders. Dungeons will take place outside of the mainland and into certain areas like forests, mountains, swamps, lakes, caves, etc… Lastly, it will have a dark western theme. Like a combo of Zelda and Red Dead put together!!!! First M rated Zelda game that uses pistols, shotguns, blood, gore, profanity, nudity, etc… and new enemies would include alligators and snakes in the deep swamps and giant polar bears in the high snowy mountains. I know this might sound kinda stupid but these were just some thoughts I had LOL but let me know what y’all think??? ⚔️ 🤠

I could see arguments for both of those. Those two moved quite a bit while I was making this list.
You were right that og Zelda's aesthetic wasn't fully realized in the series debut. However the Gameboy Color Zelda's perfected that style and built on it.
Link to the past felt too different from the original to be called an extension of the originals style. It was definitely its own thing.
I would put the Oracle games on at least the same tier as minish cap. I actually think Minish cap did a lot of things WORSE than the GB zeldas dispite doing many other things better. One of those things being the Aethetic. Dispite being on better hardware, Minish cap's Vibes couldn't hold a candle to the Oracle games perfected OG style, feelings of impact on the world around you, and a more alive world.
Everything else was fine though.

It was entertaining and I constantly had something to disagree with, that's why I stayed.
I also checked out some of your other videos and really enjoyed those a lot more. Your quality is way too high for a channel with only a few thousand subs (which is lot in it's own right don't get me wrong. I know growing on CZcams is hard). I'm gonna stick around at least for now.

Personally, I enjoy the art style of the Wand of Gamalon. Not only is it the best Zelda game, but it balances the pixilation with realisim. The designs of the characters are incredible , and it helps capture the magical feeling of the series. Personally, I despise all other art styles. They are either too simple or complex, or the designs are just plain stupid. The Wand of Gamalon should have won game of all time although that award doesn't exist. Whilst on the topic of fake things, the appeal of the art style of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom does not exist. It is too cartoony and the designs of the characters are just bad. The designs and the stories are bad. However, the Wand of Gamalon features not only amazing and compelling characters, it has riviting dialog segments and gameplay.

Look, everyone alive: Ocarina of Time is a classic, but can we admit that it is ugly as hell? It's from the dawn of 3d games where everything looked like papier-mache made by a particularly stupid and clumsy toddler.
Majora's Mask aged much better though.
I think part of what hurts Ocarina of Time the most is the times that they use images as terrain, like at the Temple of time or in Link’s house. Those CERTAINLY don’t age well, and aren’t used in MM.
It's a bit sad that you didn't include Gamecubes Four Sword Adventures. The part about the needed GBA is misinformation, the game can be played solo. Totally fine game, a 7/10 experience.

I didn’t rank them because I don’t feel like they make a notable change to the base game’s aesthetic. While they look great, I don’t think the change in artstyle notably changed how I felt when I played the games
