  • The Opel Admiral of 1938 was the top of the line a passenger car in the Opel pre-war model range. Admiral cars were produced in different body styles, and in particular, more than 2000 cars were open-top cabriolets. This luxurious car was built from February 1938 to October 1939, but only 6404 cars were produced before the war effort ended civilian vehicle production.
At the beginning of the war, most of the cars were requisitioned and used as personal transport for senior officers of the Wermacht and Luftwaffe.
ICM has reproduced this wonderful car in 1/24th scale as a multi-piece kit.
The 1938 Opel Admiral Open Top Cabriolet by ICM includes a fully detailed 21 piece straight six engine with overhead valves. These parts include a right and left hand side engine block with transmission, valve cover, oil pan, oil filter, 2-piece distributor, fuel pump, timing chain cover, upper and lower radiator hoses, oil drainage hose, generator, starter, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, carburetor, air cleaner, oil breather cap, belts and pullys and fan. The car also includes a single exhaust pipe with two mufflers.
The frame of the ICM 1938 Opel Admiral Open Top Cabriolet is made up of multiple pieces including right and left hand side frame rails, inner frame rail plates, front and rear cross braces, shocks, 2-piece rear differential, steering box, 8-piece front axle, steering linkage, drive shaft, and 2-piece "x" cross brace.
The interior of the 1938 Opel Admiral Open Top Cabriolet by ICM includes a beautiful interior with a 3-piece front bench seat that includes a blanket bar, a 2-piece rear seat, floor pan that includes front inner fenders and rear full fenders, pedals, gear shift lever, 2-piece steering wheel with banjo steering wheel spokes with sparately molded steering wheel ring and steering column. The dashboard mounts up to the cowl, which is one part of a multi-part body. The interior panels include window winder handles, arm rests, front kick panels, and side windows. You also get 2- piece sun visors both right and left.
As mentioned before, this is a multi-piece body that gets glued together to make a solid body. Therefore the doors and front fenders are one part, the back trunk lid is another, front windshield and cowl is another part, front radiator shroud, 2-piece hood, and running boards.
You also get door handles, trim moldings, bumpers, head and tail lights, vaccum operated turn signals, fuel cap and licence plates. A 3 piece convertible top in the "up" position, finishes off the model. You also get the option of adding some of the WWII German army features.
This plastic model kit can be built one of 3 ways to depict it's various uses before and during the war.

Excellent review Trevor! I have never seen a car kit with a multi piece chassis before! That definitely opened my eyes! Didn't know such a thing existed in the model car world! ICM definitely knows how to manufacture models! That comedy skit you did was hilarious haha!
