the amount of work that went into this game is nuts
The issue I've had is how to put together a party, because so many of the different factions have conflict or conflicting beliefs/motivations or seem kind of insular. It almost seems like you need your campaign idea first, and then would have to lay out which character options are accessible to fit in - to an extent, you have to do that for any game, but there's so much lore here that it feels more daunting.
Synthesizing Primal Punk wasn’t an easy task, but I bet Katharsys was even harder. Kudos to you Dave, this is a meticulous job, but at the same time really pleasant and easy to watch. Can’t wait for the one on that beautiful boy Artifacts!
Thanks, Hozon!
Man, Im short on money, but you sold me this so much. Books look awesome...
Great videos! I'm impressed that you managed to get them this compact (and with so much information) considering the sheer amount of content there is in Degenesis.
I've been meaning to get my hands on the books for years, but I've never gotten around to playing it. Fell in love with the Vincit Omnia Veritas edition when I saw it last year, and you just pushed me to actually order it.
Incredible work you've been doing for the Degenesis community. This video was very informative and will be great for my newer starting players. Thank you.
Love the editing in this one, a lot of subtle touches but also a comprehensive rundown of the rules and content of Katharsys, great video!
Thanks, Liam! Glad you liked it.
I discovered your channel about a month ago and I've already blown next month's wage on roleplaying books... And now Degenesis is on the wishlist. By far the BEST roleplaying channel on CZcams.
Thanks for saying so!
So sad this was discontinued, only now discovering this and can't find a physical copy anywhere. :-(
As usual amazing videos, this channel literally needs to nuclear explode!!!
Thanks, Dave!
These videos are great and have me entirely intrigued.
I'm one who just doesn't have time anymore to attempt the logistics of ttrpg groups. I barely have time for solo endeavors.
That said, the Degenesis system seems quite deep, perhaps more so than is worth trying to solo-atize.
However, the world! The factions & ideas, the flavor of the gear and special abilities and hazards & enemies is a plethora of ideas to play with - especially considered the low cost-of-entry!
Consider a system made for solo play, like Starforged, or other narrative games with rules-light such as Cy_Borg, adapting the mechanics to the Degenesis world and the Digenesis setting to those systems (for instance - look at a generated Scrapper character then achieve those traits via Starforged character rules; keep the granularity of bullet-counting and special gear; ditch the granularity of the actions or subsume them into the solo-friendly system).
I think Degenesis is just begging to be played in, and should really have novels and other media set there, SciFi Original etc.
Thanks for summarizing this! This guide will really help me in my next re-read of katharsis! I’m trying to get ready to run a game ( few chroniclers for this) and this summary will make looking up everything that I need much easier!
Another informative video. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for those videos! I read Primal Punk and parts of KatharSys, but still didn't feel like I had enough understanding of the world to create a character, because there is just so much details that I couldn't remember more than the overall feeling of the world xD All those classes, groups, areas, enemies, skills, ahhh xD We are going to do a oneshots soon and I want to play the character knowing everything that she would know living there, your videos are a great help!
Great video
Awesome content, great video structure, narration and exposition! I've already liked how you were doing your thing with the review videos and the deep-dive just takes that to a whole new level, well done! I also love-hate how you've used the "dave dice" for censoring :D
Just a quick question - have you maybe tried using the clan generation random tables and created some clans of your own? How useful do you think these tables are and is the final result usable in-game?
Thanks for the kind words!
I’ve rolled up a few clans, but not with the intent to use them in a game. The tables work, but they’re just a starting point. If you’re like me, a lot of the imagineering happens after the rolls.
Awesome!
Awesome stuff!
Loving the ambience in the background as well!
Thanks, Thomas!
@@DaveThaumavore Man the small sounds you did for the AMSUMO and the Psychonauts got me laughing, I love it.
@@wingnoot338 Thanks. I had fun putting that together. I really should do more foley.
Your reviews are so zen.
Heck yeah!
Is (and will) this series spoiler-free and can I send it to my future players of Degenesis? Thanks!
Yeah, I don’t really cover any adventures. Just the setting and rules.

And down they go.
Awesome content . Wanna play!!
I adore the look of this, but some mechanics seem very convoluted. Did they really need to add ANOTHER health bar to the health bar?
This is actually pretty common with dice pool systems I’ve found- VTM and Apocalypse world have similar things, where there are two levels of severity to injuries ( and VTM specifically has almost the exact same Stricture) I wonder if that system is favored more by European developers. ( shrug)
Does anybody remember the old Bushido TTRPG ?
Do these rules have an OGL ?
Not that I’m aware of.
The rules are quite simple if you get down to it.
It's just obscured by overly Flowery poise.
Not sure I agree. The Primal Punk setting book suffers from a bit of that, but this rulebook doesn’t beat around the bush in terms of communicating rules.
Thanks for this continued great series, lovely editing.
The more I watched, the more I think the amount of female-to-male nudity a bit ridiculous and annoying. this and the weird comments on race I've seen in the books prevent me from getting this incredible game.
What is the problem with female (or male) nudity, and why can race not matter in Fantasy. The author makes the rules and they don't describe the real world. This is not your conservative stuff, this for more free wheeling folk. I love it!
