2nd Guitar: Julian Gomez Ramirez (1938) the best by far. Nice bright tone...others are too mellow.
Totally agree, I loved its sound!👍
Yes. Bright guitars with clarity suit the baroque and renaissance repertoire. The other guitars will probably come into their own with later romantic pieces.
i agree
I disagree on brightness - I find #4 the 2016 make to be the brightest and most balanced, with your #2 being close but with more middle tones. #1 is almost boomy with low tones but I'm sure it could sing some dramatic stories told slow and soulfully.
The Ramirez sounded way too round. Could be caused by bad mic placement. There is no way you can compare these instruments in a CZcams video with sub-par audio recordings.
#4. Romanillos & Son, 2016. Crystal clear and well defined sound across the board, no overly mellow or muddy tones, good strong character.
2nd Guitar (Ramirez 1938) has the most balanced and expressive tone. 4th is a close second.
Couldn't have said it better.
Precise my words.
Agree, the Ramirez has the most “ character”.
神弹
Yes, indeed. And Alexandra played all 4 guitars beautifully. What a talent.
#2!! What a beautiful clarity and it rings like a bell.
Howdoyou markmynameiscomically216
Wow number 3! The Daniel Friederich sounded amazing!
It's you its not the guitars! They all sound fantastic!!!
In all reality you are correct. The human ear is not so perfect at all. It changes also as we age. It is decimetric as well. Cats can hear 5 times better. I wonder what they think.
I can't change it, I think I'm a Friederich fan. Number 3 is my favourite guitar. Thanks so much for this video. 😊
Mee too
To my ears the Friederich lacks in separation and feels a bit muddy and undefined, especially compared to the Hernandez.
One of my students owns a Friederich and it's a magnificent instrument. He's offered to let me borrow it but I'm afraid I'd never give it back!
@@samswank 😄
Impossible to pick one guitar, when you played them all so beautifully. Phenomenal!
The Ramirez has a warmth to it that sets it apart. Lovely performance! Wonderful!
The 1930 Santos Hernandez for its rich base tones and clean resonance in the higher register. Wonderful played! 😊
#1 is best. #2 is brighter, #3 has a cavernous effect, and #4 is closest to #1 but doesn't have quite the same full harmonic content. #1 has the others beat, but all of them are wonderful to listen to. Thanks for sharing a unique test listening experience!
#4 for overall e.q., harmonic and dynamic balance. Thanks for the beautiful playing.
Santos Hernandez had incredible bass response, it was my favorite.
Jose L. Romanillos is the most appealing sound to me. Very well balance high, lows and mids that makes it sound almost like a piano.
They are all good sounding guitars. I think #4 Jose L Romanilos& Sons 2016 seems to have more balance between bass, middle and treble.
I endorse that. It's a 'darker' sound - more depth. It's the one I'd use for Rodrigo's concerto (if I was ever, ever that good!). Some of the others - without being true flamenco guitars - wouldn't be astray with that kind of music.
3. is a solid one.
Also, after hearing you play I can't listen to anyone else playing this music. You're the real thing. Cheers!
Falling in love with classical guitar again and again : )
I liked " 2. Julian Gomez Ramirez " clear and rich tone 👍👍 and thank you for playing them 👌
Gomez Ramirez 1938 sound sooo lovely at min1:50-2:00 looooooove it
i agree, each one of the strings shows a diferent voice ( gomez Ramírez)
The Santos Hernandez by far. It had the best tone across the board for me, and sounded like it would be the most pleasing when playing pieces that have a lot of variety. The J.G. Ramirez was a bit harsh at times to my ear. Numbers three and four were fine, but did not sound particularly special to me.
I agree, the first (Santos Hernandez) was the best sounding to me also. It had the warmest and most mellow tone. The second instrument was bright, but vibrated too much and had an unclear sound, as did the 3rd guitar. The 4th & last was nice, but not as clear and warm as the first. All the music was played skillfully and beautifully.
Agreed
Agreed 100%. But what about the strings? Are they the same? I found quite important differences in the sound even between the same brand (e.g Savarez)
Beautiful Sonata, thank you. To my ear, the Santos Hernandez 1930 sounds so clean and pure with beautiful bass tones. It's my pick of the 3.......Salvatore : )
Love your videos! For me, the Santos Hernandez had a deeper, richer tone that immediately took me to a medieval place in my mind.
You are inspiring me to pick-up my guitars again after many years of neglect. Thank you!🎶
At my age I have trouble with discerning subtleties in individual instruments especially with CZcams. However, what impressed me the most is how you can stretch your fingers! From the pinky on the first string, fifth fret and the index finger on the sixth string, second fret in a few passages! My goodness, that's incredible. Beautiful music. Beautiful playing.
Hummm... they're all lovely. It's almost embarrassing to have to pick just one. However, given the additional lower frequency response of the Daniel Friederich 1968 guitar, I have to choose that one (with the Jose L. Romanillos & Son 2016 in second place).
O
Loved #1, just the warmth it had, without being muddy. The most recent one (#4) has a rather nice color to it's tones. It's bright, but clear - not piercing.
Number 2, the Ramirez 1938 !
But with your hands, it doesn’t really matter, I’m sure that any piece of chunk will sound marvelous !
Great and beautiful rendition.
Thanks for sharing this.
Two different approachs: the Ramirez has more counterpoint feeling: I, as Italian guitarist, adore it: meanwhile the Frederich has more harmonic result: that's nice too for Scarlatti. Very interesting.
in my opinion, the 1st guitar has fascinated me because of its rich and deep tone..its like going home at last after a long journey
in my opinion you miss the point mr fascinated, it's not a good version!!!!!
@@banjoboy01 i respect your opinion thank you!
Hard to pick up the best, I'd go for Friedrich, such an outstanding romantic yet powerful and clear sound, just wow. In the hand of a skilled guitar player of course, Alexa you have all the credits here. Can't wait to see you live this Saturday in Reutlingen!
Thanks for asking our opinions! The 2nd guitar was my favorite, it was easier for me to hear the notes clearly.
1 is my favorite thank you for sharing this I think anything you play will sound outstanding keep it going
I think the Santos Hernandez 1930 had the best tone to my ear, although all of them sound wonderful.
What a nice change from the style guitar demo videos I usually watch to relax. This surely elevates the guitar demo video to the level of fine art.
1. Santos Hernández 1930. So mellow. Such beautiful midrange.
Beautiful playing and tone! All lovely guitars. My favorite - The Jose L. Romanillos for its tonal balance and even articulation.
Yes. Best value. Not likely to develop problems any time soon. The nostalgia for 1930 era guitars is just that.
I preferred the John Petrucci Music Man custom with the Randall stack. The way she smashed it and how the guitar came apart so beautifully at the end is a testament to the companies meticulous craftsmanship.
All sound beautiful - my personal preferences in order..... 3 ~ 4 ~ 1 ~ 2. But again they all sound lovely!
ALL THE GUITARS SOUNDED ALMOST IDENTICAL, I AM A HARPSICHORDIST, BUT ALL OF THE GUITARS SOUNDED WONDERFUL AND YOUR PLAYING IS MAGNIFICENT AND A GREAT JOY TO LISTEN TO. I LIVE IN SPAIN, AND I ALMOST NEVER HEAR A GUITAR PLAYED HERE. THE POPULSTION MOSTLY DOESN´T EVEN KNO WHO SCARLATTI IS. WLL. THAT´S LIFE.
Lurch, I knew you were still alive! You were so quiet on the Addam’s Family, now its all caps, what gives Lurch? I love your harpsichord playing, BTW.
The playing is beautiful! Thank you. Number 1 (Hernandez) has the most defined bass on that low E string ... real guts!. Number 2 is almost as good on the low end, but has a smoother overall effect. The best, open sound is from number 4 (Romanillos). It's a full, open throated sound, but the low end is not well defined ... almost absent. I'd choose number 1 first, then number 2, if my playing repertoire needed a well defined bass. If I wanted a more open throated sound, then number 4 is smooth, even orchestral. Good playing and good luck.
Hi, the #3 is for me the smoothest in pass and clear other Wise, Daniel Friedrich. Perfect play. Congratulations.
How cool. Thanks for demonstrating them. For me, the second guitar has a satisfying brightness, but the third achieves a rich, mellow tone while maintaining clear note/melody separation. Often "mellow" guitars end up a bit mushy, but not here. I would think #2 in a larger venue where projection is important, #3 for intimate settings and recording. I would think #3 would be the nicest for the player, as I imagine the subtle balance of overtones is especially pleasing at the source.
Lovely demo... for us folks with less-than-perfect hearing ;-) But, still, quite vivd differences! For both of us, 1 and 4 favourites, although I found #2 had a nice 'attack' and clarity for this piece, but #1 and #4, one could listen to for hours !
What kind of genious was able to write this? I asked myself when I first heard this master piece. Thank you for your awesome rendition of this wonder.
Music is the art I love the most. Because it transports you to heaven. Congratulations for your great work Alexandra. Greetings from Santiago-Chile
I really liked how the Gibson Dave Mustaine Flying V EXP sounded in this piece. It really compliments Alexandra's death metal growls.
I thought how she smashed that 1846 Ernesto Gomez classic over the Marshall stack was the best. Not to take away from her sweep picking solos and feedback control of course. Fire the drummer though.
1. and 4, but 1 is super 👍🥰
Yep. No. 2 for me as well. Beautiful tone.
I am listening on an IPhone, But I preferred the richness and warmth of the first guitar. Thank you, I loved your playing!
Number 2 👍....more mellow & clear on the bass & very good on treble end of the scale, the best amongst very nice guitars. More videos please ☺️👏👏👏
Years ago when I played, I had a modern Yamaha and I loved its bright tone like the Julian Gomez Ramirez (1938)
Liked the guitar Santos Hernandez 1930. My first guitar Sanchez thanks yours. Sounded clearly deep
2nd one yes lovely bright sound, 4th one was nice sounding also
2nd Guitar: Julian Gomez Ramirez (1938) is the clear winner for my ears, followed closely by
1st Guitar: Santos Hernandez (1930). The newer guitars - 3 & 4 - sound kinda muddy, without much string separation.
Great performance! All of four guitars are perfect , i prefer Santos Hernadez 1930 and also Jose L. Romanillos & Son 2016
Going with the Daniel Friedrich. Lovely playing as always Alexandra.
I selected my favorite then I read some of the comments. It just points out how different people have different taste. My choice was #3 Daniel Friederich 1968.
My favorite was No. 2. I listened without watching the video and found it had the most balanced yet complex sound.
Beautifully played Alexandra. I found the overall tone of # 2 Guitar -Ramirez 1938, most pleasing. It also had exceptionally good note definition across all strings. Its sustain and resonance on both chords and notes was exceptional. As a close second for me; #4, the Romanillos & Son 2016 - warm enveloping overall classical sound. Thanks for the video.
I find the 1st one, Santos Hernandez 1930 with more 'personality', a kind of vintage flavor. The others sound good, but a little standard for my taste. However impressed by the last one, from 2016, really cool sound for a very contemporary guitar.
I fully agree with you, the first one has a great personality and a vintage flavor, so sweet and mild!
The choice depends on what sort of sound spectrum you like. 1. Nice mids with soft treble but lose and nasally resonant low mids or basses . 2. Very well balanced. 3. The most balanced spectrum and good volume ( loudness). 4. Less loudness more treble , scooped mids.
I love the first one!! Amazing sound, deeply and shiny at the same time!!! Santos Hernandez 1930
All four of them sounded beautiful but if I had to pick it would be number three just love the tone and Melody thank you for so much sharing your knowledge of beautiful music on your CZcams channel thumbs up 👍
3, 2, 1, 4 for me. It feels like a more consistent sound across the strings on no. 3. All sound lovely though!
Amazing instruments all. The Hernandez though had a richness in the bottom end that was so rich and mellow. To my ear the clear winner.
Guitar 2
Don’t matter what guitar you play Alexandra …your playing ability is absolutely awesome …Love your style …xAlex🇬🇷
I think I liked #2 the Julian Gomez Ramirez 1938 best. It had the sound of an old classical guitar. Thank you for playing for me today.
#1 was very balanced and musical, smooth, and overall, to coin an audiophile term, non-fatiguing. I could listen to you play it all day. Great demonstration of the incredibly different timbre of similar instruments. Thanks for doing this.
For me the 1st one sounded the most smooth and pleasant though the others were magnificent guitars.
For me it’s between #1 and #4 with #1 in a slight lead. #2 has an odd mid-tone resonance that I didn’t find pleasing. Love the comparison vids.
I agree with Gus. Similar rationale: Friederich favorite, Romanillos 2nd place. A bit more clarity and glow to the trebles, nice midrange warmth, balanced LF. I have recently acquired a new Dominique Delarue because I was smitten with its sound and build quality, so I guess this is not a surprise. 😄
Guitar 2 sounds best to my ears but guitar 4 is a close second.
#2. Iliked the last three, all for different reasons but, #2 was my favorite.
Thank you for every one of it !
Great video! I think I like the 3rd one best for it's balance of "bite" in the higher range with a warm, mellow low end.
They are all lovely, and so is her playing. If forced to choose, I would say I prefer the Santos Hernandez. It is the most colorful to my ear and has a wonderful warmth to the tone.
The second was nice, crisp. But the third had a beautiful, deep, rich voice that I really enjoyed. As for your playing, I could listen to it all day long. Amazing.
The Julian Ramirez (2nd guitar) had the brightest tone. The Jose Romanillos & Sons (last guitar) probably had the best overall sound.
Yes, always a treat to hear you play, Alexandra...
The Ramirez. No contest. Beautiful playing, thank you.
Definitely the second guitar. Such a lovely warm tone to my ears
A real treat. Thank you
Gotta go with #3. Has such a nice round tone, resonant, not overly-bright. Really enjoyed the comparison, and of course your playing as always.
Loved them all.
All 4 were wonderful, but it was your mastery of them that is the best.
2, 1, 3, 4 in order of preference. It doesn't really matter because you play them all wonderfully and that is what matters.
All beautiful! Love the music. Outstanding playing!
Lovely guitars, all four are, but it is Miss Whittingham that is loveliest by far 😁
OMG the top "A" ringing on the Friederich at 2:36
I prefer the first guitar most.
Bonjour Alexandra, I like the resonnance of the bass string on the Santos Hernandez
I was really looking forward to a little of your thoughts and feelings when playing the different guitars at the end of the video.
Santos Hernandez. Each notes are round, resonance, plein,...but question of ears. Other comments on others are as valuable as mine. Thx for this pleasant music and exercice of "listening"
Nothing beats Ramirez, but, personally, I liked Hernandez a lot too. A friend of mine has a splendid Ramirez, with some fascinating history behind it, and it is not just a guitar, it is a Ramirez. Having said all of that, I'd like to add that it always takes a master to interpret a score, and put life into it, and perhaps it concerns instruments as well. You are such a fine musician and I loved to listen to your performance. I must admit that I'm rather spoilt because I had privilege to study with outstanding guitarists, and I was lucky enough to listen to their performances, rehearsals and long hours of practicing and repetitions. What fun it was! Thanks Alexandra!
I enjoyed the warmth of #1, but loved the brightness of #2. I was pleasantly surprised 3 & 4.
The playing is splendid and the tone of each instrument delightful. But #4 is so stunning to look at
Lovely playing, Friederich best to my ear
Absolutely stunning playing. Thank you! And the differences between the guitars was really interesting.
Nos. 3 and 4 for me, with 3 standing a little taller. Love your playing no matter which one.
My choice in best sequences:
1. Romanillos & Son (Balance, clarity, sweetness & elegant); 2. Friederich (balance, clarity & elegant); 3. S. Hernandez (romantic sweetness). 4. J.G. Ramirez (still quite good but not as good as all the other 3)!
The 2nd one for this type of music is by far the most appropriate, according to my ears, even though every single guitar sounds beautifully
