- Central Park is a famous birding destination in New York. It serves not only as an oasis for people but also for birds. We met up with our friends Jeff and Otys, who showed us around this iconic destination. Along the way we, found some incredible bird species.

I live on the upper east side and the ramble is my oasis I genuinely would not have made it through lockdown if it weren’t for Central Park it’s so greatly loved and appreciated by so many of us
That was definitely the feeling we got from the people in the city
I don't think I've ever seen an ovenbird, but that was great footage of one.
They can be extremely tough to spot!
Have them on my property! My Merlin ID said so this morning!😁 Had never heard of this cutie before!
Central Park~ Awesome~👍
Thank you for sharing this video~🤗
You’re very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Really enjoyed today's video of Central Park ! Such a serene place in the middle of chaos.
That’s a very accurate way to describe it lol
I love birding in Central Park - late April-early May 2019 was one of my most memorable birding experiences ever, with 25+ warbler species seen, plus countless other great species. Glad you've done a video about this place. I took a lot of species-specific videos in CP last spring, when I wasn't able to be there for as long but still got some great birds. Never been early enough for Louisiana Waterthrush, so pretty envious on that one. Amazingly we've had three American passerines in the UK this year (maybe more, but I've seen three): Northern Waterthrush, Myrtle Warbler and Dark-eyed Junco. Of course, I've seen tons of them in the US.
Congrats on those birds! Send over some European species for us please :p
sweet
Thanks for watching!
@@BadgerlandBirding ur most welcome
I live in New York , but I'm 6 hours away from NYC. I loved today's video!! Thanks guys!
Our pleasure!
Watching this on my way back to WI. Lmao at the rat lifer and “that’s a lot of sapsuckers” 😂 Great video as always guys!
Can’t wait for you to get insanely interested in birding this summer :p
Gorgeous!!! Central Park is downright mythical
I don't have a bucket list but if I did it would include birding Central Park. I was introduced to it when I read Red Tails in Love.
Looks like it’s time to start one!
Central Park is kind of a birding bucket list for me; even though I abhor big cities and crowded places. If you haven't already, I *highly* recommend watching the documentary "Birding: The Central Park Effect" - it's outstanding.
You will despise the traveling to Central Park part, but probably enjoy the being in Central Park part!
Awww man am a Central Park birder and I love your show , would have liked to say hi 👋 glad you guys enjoyed the park but there are so much more!! lol
Same! I live 5 blocks from Central Park and bird there several times a week. Spring migration 2024 was outstanding and I’m glad the Badgerland Birders got to experience some of it. I would like to bird Wisconsin 😊
So funny that I was there only a week ago! I saw a black crowned night heron at the end of my Central Park trip which was so cool to see and one of my goal species, can’t wait to watch this🙌
I also often heard a call that was like: tstststs tutuututuutu. and I have no idea what it was lol, really hope to visit North America again someday
Could have just been white throated sparrow I’m not familiar with the calls lol
Glad you got to see one! They’re cool birds! In regards to the song you heard we would probably have to hear it to tell you what it is
Cool thanks! Can’t wait for the Magee Marsh videos! 😊❤
You mean “the numerous Magee Marsh videos” lol

Welcome to NY guys!! So happy you are here, hope you enjoy your stay! Are you visiting the Hudson Valley area?
We were in New Jersey and made the trip up to NY just for Central Park with Jeff and Otys
Very cool! NJ is great, I am going to the Cape May spring festival next week. If you ever make your way back to NY, Marshlands in Rye and Croton Point Park up in Westchester are some solid hot spots. The Hudson Valley area is pretty amazing to visit as well with all the habitats along the Hudson. Anyway, I love watching your videos guys, always fun and informative! All the best...
Glad you guys got to visit! I live in NYC and its my first spring migration since I really started birding. I've made a couple trips from the Bronx down to Central Park. Totally worth it for the birds, but it may be at the detriment to my college finals.
That’s probably accurate lol we hope you’re enjoying your first migration though! You’re probably getting a ton of lifers!
Visit the NJ pine barrens.
What cool birds live in the barrens? And are we guaranteed a New Jersey Devil encounter?
Very interesting to see the birds in that place, it is well known that you can see many species there, I even follow the channel of a lady who always films in that place. Birds in certain urban parks are abundant; When I travel to Buenos Aires I go to large parks or the ecological reserve, similar in size to the Central Park, with the difference that it is an abandoned polder on the River Plate, where the vegetation slowly colonized the place, with records of about 300 species in the 40 years of its existence
Those places are like little havens for birds and other wildlife. A very interesting thing indeed
Did you guys check out there bird journal at the coffee shop I believe? Read about it in Red Tails in Love.
No, we didn’t have any extra time unfortunately
ornithology insights brought me here
Nice!
"Locals" from NEW JERSEY? Next time, I'll show you around since I'm local from...down the block. Hahahaha
lol you’re saying they’re not legit?!
@@BadgerlandBirding Nah they're legit!
You have to come back during peak spring migration to get the real CPK experience.
Have you viewed some of the Monk Parrots that are supposed to be in the area?
Not in New York but we’ve seen them in chicago!
Cool video but sounds like I was hearing hundreds of house sparrows the entire time. Was the whole park littered with them?
😬 they were more abundant in the areas around the edges closer to the city, but yeah they were very abundant
While I realize it wasnt "countable", its too bad you missed the Eagle owl, it would have been a cool * Tick.
We talked about that while we were there. That place is so big I bet it would have been hard to find
What telephoto lens do you use?
I believe every video in here of birds was shot with the Panasonic LUMIX FZ-80 super zoom camera
I don’t know when you’ll next visit, but Prospect Park in Brooklyn is much better than Central Park for birding, in my opinion
We aren’t sure either but we may have to check it out!
New to bird watching. What makes it so much better?
my father in law is a bird watcher enthusiast. Can anyone recommend a guided tour with an expert? Is December a good time to see birds in New York City?
@@Thetoad738 Jeff and Otys actually do guiding out in that area! Shoot us an email and we can see if we can set something up: badgerlandbirding@gmail.com
I love Central Park. This is a horrible presentation.
@@owenpeller6471 you’re gonna have to do some more explaining my friend…
