    Tyre pressure can affect rolling resistance and comfort on the bike. It can also contribute towards punctures if the pressure is too low, causing pinches between the rim and inner tube. A common misconception is that a higher pressure is faster but this has been disproved in recent studies. New technology can now give you live
    tyre pressure data to your head unit, this could prove very useful!

      Global Triathlon Network, like you said what about tire construction, tubeless, tubular, clincher? Surely that will also affect the value and the quark app don't take any of that into account... so many variable! 😊
      Here I use 100psi front and back.with clincher training and about 120psi in continual attack in chip seal here in New Zealand and see quite a difference in speed increase... many other factor may also come into count like race day feeling and taper pre race (more fresh) and so on lol!!

      I run around 120psi for 175lbs on Michelin Pro 4 Endurance 23c.

      1bar per 10kg of rider... Gives me 8bar for me (with 25mm tyres).

    My general rule of thumb = 25mm tyres, 1 psi per kg of body weight. That is for dry weather on uk roads. Wet weather -5 psi per tyre. I am 90 kgs, running Conti gp4000 II, 25mm with latex tubes. 90 psi rear and 85 psi front. I have never had a puncture in 6 x full IM finishes. Very general but it works for me.

      Dean Kelly I just did the math and your system works for me spot on. My weight converted gave me what pressure I prefer; interesting.

    This is not good. Somehow, I run amazingly close to what TyreWiz recommends for all three of my bike/wheel combos. So now I have to cross off 'tyre pressure' from my list of excuses for why I am so slow.

      One thing is for sure, its not the engine. Its definitely the bike. And wetsuit, and shoes.

    My weight is distributed fairly evenly over both tyres because of aerobar use. For smooth dry roads I inflate my 25 mm Continental Grand Prix 4000s II tyres as follows: *front = 92 psi* (6.34 bar), *rear = 102 psi* (7.03 bar).

    Paying $200 for the tire pressure sensor is beyond stupidity. I don't see any application for them, since your pump provides you the pressure measure. The only place it may make scenes to use them is if someone is competing at a professional level, at which they either get it for free.

    3,5-5 bar depending on tarmac for 25mm tyres and 72kg. feels the fastest (range) and its also what some wheel companies like enve recommend.

  • @marktyler7241
    @marktyler7241 Před 5 lety

    I'm more confused than before. GCN did a similar video a while back and showed that my tire pressure should be about 90 on the rear, and 85 on the front. My local bike shop said the same - or said to simply run ~87 on both tires.. The app mentioned in this video doesn't seem to be owned by Quarq anymore (?) but rather, SRAM (a reputable company, nonetheless?) The interface looks almost exactly the same throughout and all the choices are exactly the same. However, the app is suggesting 74 rear and 72 front. That seems way off for some one 160 lbs, running 25mm 700c tires

    I was curious about my tire pressure so I used the app. It recommended 72-front 74-back. That seems really low right? For triathlon?

    I’d be really interested to know how much the psi increases from 5am on race day then you set transition up for a 1/2 or full distance
    Till 7:30-7:45 when we mount the bike at T1 exit
    Due to the change in ambient temperature

      ian owen. I suspect not much. I think the problem is latex inner tubes. The heat can cause them to fail.

      adrian betti I'm aware of all that, and I dont mind with product placement videos in general, but I was expecting by reading the title some good advices regarding air pressures and not just a product marketing stuff. They usually handle it better ... but this one was just not a good one.

    • @gtn
      @gtn  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi N. V. we get asked a lot about what tyre pressure we should run in a triathlon, and we thought the Quarq TyreWiz app is a pretty easy way of measuring them, but it may not be for everyone.

    • @janpeterlassen7791
      @janpeterlassen7791 Před 6 lety

      Same disappointment here. No issues with product placements, but from the title I was expecting a guideline for tyre pressures like we have seen over on GCN a couple of times, but probably more geared towards tri specific rider positions. This was missing completely.
      BTW: Not sure if this was mentioned in the vid... You can download (and use) the TyreWiz app without buying the pods (which in my personal opinion are a little overpriced at 259 €) ;)

    • @janpeterlassen7791
      @janpeterlassen7791 Před 6 lety

      The app does not take into account your weight distribution over the bike, which I assume is different between a road bike and a TT/tri bike. Will this impact f/r tyre pressure distribution compared to a road bike?
