When the MLS began play in 1996, they assembled their basecamps in a rag tag platoon of aging stadiums.
Some were active NFL arenas, a few college football stadiums, and most of them were getting long in the tooth - in fact 4 of the 8 original MLS stadiums are no longer standing.
But did you know that today, 19 of the 24 MLS teams play in Stadiums built only for soccer? What was once an afterthought league has now become a thriving tier of american sports.
And today, we’re going to look at all 24 of these venues, - I had no idea some of these stadiums exist -, and of course make some bad jokes, like when the Wiz used to play the Burn and everyone involved kept getting reminded to go visit their urologist.

That, and the fact that on a few occasions, the stadium was the site of the world's most attended football match for that particular day, beating out sides which are true global brands.

To this day, I find it weird that they are called the NY Giants and NY Jets. I thought it was even more odd that the Jets would call Giants Stadium home. It would be like the Mets calling Yankee Stadium home. A Giant Stadium staff once made a joke, and said that the Bills are the only NY based team in the NFL, lol!

Both NFL teams for the NYC market play in Jersey, and the Green Bay Packers are the OG "named after the sponsor" team in the US as they were originally created as a team sponsored by the Indian Meat Packing company.

@@confusedcowboy I don't blame them, MLS relies too much on lesser and/or older players from those leagues. That's also why I understand why America has such a hard time filling out a competitive national men's team - US-born players don't really have a professional league in which to truly develop their skills, appearances aside. I do think the problem is deeper than that, though, it probably comes from the same place that has caused soccer mom porn to be the most prolific contribution the sport has made to the American cultural consciousness.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is beautiful. I was there for MLS Cup 2018 and it was Electric! Never seen a Stadium that loud.

@@DaBoss-sl3dr Wrong. Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a Multi-purpose Stadium that has Separate Facilities for Flacons and Atlanta United Players. We also had many College Football games, Concerts, and we're hosting the Men's Final Four 2020.

ATLUTD fan here, and I am just as impressed with the stadium as you seem to be, and I have been to many Atlanta United matches.
It's nice to feel like we're something special, with the Benz and especially with the Cup, but it's also much nicer when we can show our hospitality and true love of The Game to visiting supporters.

So far, the only MLS stadium that I have been to is Audi Field, in D.C. (I currently live in VA). I was there for the playoff game, last season, when my Columbus Crew beat D.C. United in PKs and I was there for D.C. United's home opener, against Atlanta United FC. It is a really nice stadium and does not seem to have a bad seat in the house. The view of the Capital Building, on a clear night, is always pretty awesome. I hope to get to a game at MAPFRE Stadium, before the Crew moves into their new stadium.
Cover supporters groups. MLS has a wide variety of them with some interesting history, plus it's something wholly unique in American sports

Chicago Fire season ticket holder since ‘08 here. If you thought the cubs were the adorable losers of Chicago, you are surely mistaken. Also, that stadium was sold to the lowest bidder and is literally rotting.
And now the FIre are ending their lease and will be moving back to Soldier Field next year and will try to build a new place in Chicago itself.

Starting this season the Impact play all their home games at Saputo stadium but they start the on the road with their 6 first games this season.
Two major issues with the Orlando segment:
1. The Citrus Bowl pic you have is pre-renovation. The west side stands are completely new and the renovations are complete. For MLS, its just too big.
2. Orlando is NOT in South Florida. It's very much Central Florida.

15:56 that is actually a positive for soccer as it ramps up the atmosphere and gets the players hyped up. A lot of the big European stadiums, including Anfield and Signal Iduna Park, are also designed like this.
The reason fans and teams hate the "Olympic Stadiums", with runnning tracks and leave them at the first chance... Or at least gert rid of the damm tracks.
Vancouver only uses 21,000 of their seats and for the most part keeps the upper deck closed.

Mario Cortes Actually its not really in the middle of nowhere. It’s a suburb only about 10 minutes out of Chicago. A lot of people live in the area. I just think it’s because Chicago really isn’t a soccer town.

I've been to three of these stadiums, Dignity Health, Providence, and CenturyLink, which are all nice stadiums
Then again Yankee Stadium does host the Pinstripe Bowl as well.
