    Whether you are doing a small DIY solar install to get some lights out in your shed or considering a professionally installed solar system to offset your monthly power bill the relationship ship of Power (kW) and Energy (kWh) is important to understand. I will walk through a few examples that should help you in your DIY system designs or your ability to understand what a professional installer has proposed for your home.

    Great EcoFlow delta pro and EcoFlow delta pro ultra system 👌

    My house was "sized" When solar was installed in 2009.
    In hindsight, I would say we are now undersized as we tried to use as little electricity as possible. Better to be oversized 👍🤓👍

    Great video. I’d love if you could do a video about how to power a delta pro (or other portable battery) using solar when you’ve got to run the cables from outside to inside (basement).

      Thanks for the feedback. I have a couple options and could put together a video later this winter/spring 👍

    Will Prowse (DYI Solar With Will Prowse) is able to charge his Tesla from solar, but he lives in Las Vegas (which gets a lot of sun) and he has a shitload of solar charging capability which most people won't have.

    I liked your water bucket analogy. but you should have been using a straw and on a cloudy day a dripping faucet...

    Solar is hard to wrap your head around and how much electricity we really use in a modern home. A lot...!! I have a Promaster van with 600w of solar on the roof. 3- 200w panels. I run my lights, refrigerator, microwave, induction cook top and gas furnace. 2-100AH Battle born batteries. NO AC... in a typical evening lights on and making dinner I use about 30% of my power supply. In AZ my batteries would be full by 11:00am, in Alaska in October it would take all day. With that said, running a modern home on solar is a large undertaking. Having a company put solar on your house is probably not worth it. BUT here's my question; The Cost Benefit Analysis of running a 12v Mini Split to supplement the heating and cooling of my home...? In MN we have not seen the sun in 2 months. so solar in the winter is about 0w....lol?

      Thanks for the examples. As I was walking outside today (in Illinois) I was thinking the same thing on the solar output in the winter. If I was off grid I would be running my generator A LOT to charge up the battery bank as the solar contribution would be small over the past 2-4 weeks here.

    I'm considering putting some panels on a wooden frame on a flat roof initially just for emergency use (power outages). I have a couple of EcoFlow units. Would those panels need to be grounded or protected from lightening? (Florida!)

      @everydaysolar  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I grounded my setup and you will also want to make sure you have enough ballast to avoid the panels flying away like a kite if you get a storm rolling through.

    Man, only 28 KWh for 1 month..loll. I use 3000KWh in a month (average) if I look at my electricity bill. But all electric here though. You sure you need solar panels? I know, you electricity price is probably way higher than mine. Just amazed at the difference, that's all.

    • @readyplayer2
      @readyplayer2 Před 6 měsíci

      For another data point, I used just under 1900 KWH from October - December (my utility bills every other month), or less than 1/3rd of your usage. Electric heat (heat pump), electric stove (induction), electric water heater (resistance, not heat pump), and electric dryer (also traditional resistance heat). Mid June to mid August was under 1100 KWH, around 540 per month. This is for a 3 BR house in the PNW; the grid here is mostly hydro with a bit of wind and nuclear. Are you charging multiple EVs or running a grow operation? 🪴

      That 28kWh was the average daily usage. Reread that printout at 1:00

    Doesn't look like it would be worth it at those prices. You can invest that money and do better. Also don't think the electric cars are going to be as big a hit as they're thinking. I think they are a terrible idea at these prices, unless they come way down and aren't disposable. Now replacement batteries cost more or as much as a new car.

    • @MrAgility888
      @MrAgility888 Před 6 měsíci

      EV battery replacements are very rare and usually covered under warranty. And year over year, EV sales are up. EV's aren't disposable, about 95% of the battery can be recycled and made into a new battery.

      We will soon be forced into EV’s regardless of desire.

      Remember your investment when the grid goes down and you don't have power. Also, that's fake news on EV batteries..do your research before you post nonsense or name your source.

      Tell that to the people up north last week, when it was too cold to charge their Tesla's. I jumped in my diesel and away we went.@@surfguy777
