I just love how in child-like awe the people were of the features in the video footage. Granted, they were witnessing things never done in a video game before. Watching this kind of helped me tap into my memories of the same feelings of wonder I had when experiencing computer games for the first time in my childhood.
It's been 2 years and all but I'm pretty sure that you can Download these builds off of either wikipedia or the cutting room floor I can't remember which
Matt 3838 Really shows how far video games have come along, people back then being so impressed with what is now just very rudimentary aspects of 3D game design. Of course they knocked it out of the park with Doom all the same. What a defining moment of video game history.
That pre-release footage recorded inside id Software I think it was around the time of press release beta, but maybe a bit later. E1M2 is like from that beta, but it has fast elevators, while in beta they were slow. E1M1 was a bit different, green armor room especially. Other maps I don't recall that good to see any changes, but still)
I love that beta death scream, it just goes "aoughhh" like they stubbed their toes or something
the scream is from the snes port of wolf3d
@@ash10ashofficial63 That's interesting

@@2025fahaddenseje Yes, all weapon and enemy sounds were just placeholders. That's even mentioned by Romero in the video.

I didn't know the music "Waiting for Romero to play" was used in the DOOM beta... it is weird
It was in the beta I think it’s in the unused doom 1 music replacement wad
10:15 The music is "This Love" by Pantera ha, so badass
Yep, "Waiting for Romero to play". For the final version, they moved it to Doom 2 and it's featured on map 18 and map 27.
This is incredible to see a plan come together!!
Now I can finally play this game on a play station
Jason Smith or on Xbox live
Gerardo Garza García yes, but it’s been on live before
...You've always been able to play Doom on Playstation.

Play Wolfenstein 3D and then compare it with Doom. It was a huge leap forward.
Doom 2 music in Doom 1 is so cursed lol
I like how the shotgun iron sight looks like the Quake logo

The footage of Romero playing and demonstrating the game is from November 1993. A month before release.
The video of what I'm guessing was Romero playing the first couple of levels was really cool, like just this guy showing his friends a demo he made
it really seams like they had fun making the game

Yeah, I noticed that as well back in 2019-2020 when Doom Eternal was being shown to the public.

Id software sent john romero himself to break into some old reporters home to take back those autographed doom hintbooks...

Seems like one of Doom 2s tracks was originally going to be in Doom 1. But scrapped it and put it in doom 2 instead.

The track Waiting For Romero To Play was written for the original Doom? I did not know that.
