My friend and I's head canon now is that that one becomes the curator
And also he says "perhaps it doesn't matter either way". So like the Doctor saved Gallifrey once but then the master burned it down so it is kind of lost again, but the future must happen, that's why he gave a vague answer
I love that writers don't always plan things that much ahead but in the end the story ends up being perfectly tied. (If I am not mistaken, River Song was also a mystery to the writers when she was first introduced during season 4) I love their imagination and brilliance honestly

Tom Baker's introduction in this scene is absolutely brilliantly executed. The whole tone shifts as soon as we hear his voice. It's as if a living legend has walked into the scene.

With David Tennant’s return as the 14th Doctor, the line “you’ll find yourself revisiting a few but just the old favourites” has come into fruition.
Funny thing was they weren't planning David to come back. Scheduling only reason why it happened, which is great. I just wish it was for full season. However, with streaming becoming harder, frankly you need special service to watch it now. Not as many people will get to see it.
@@Wrangler-fp4eiAre you kidding? The projected audience as a result of it showing on Disney+ are a significant increase from what the viewing figures have been for the past decade at least. It being on a streaming service has opened it up to a much larger audience, and that's not my opinion, it's a statistical fact.

God. Even as an outsider to the series, it's easy for me to see why Baker held the role for as long as he did. That man is one hell of an actor.
And by his own admittance he basically played himself. I guess he is just that naturally charming.
I recently listened to 'Out of Time', which is a Doctor Who audio drama featuring Tom Baker and David Tennant reprising their roles, and I have to say that he made Tennant look like an absolute amateur in comparison. Baker truly is fantastic.
To be honest, for me Tom is THE doctor.
Tom Baker was my first Doctor as I remember it. I used to see it on WQED in Pittsburgh on Friday nights or Saturday nights ( I really can’t remember over 28 years ago very very well) Anyways it came on before Red Dwarf ( which i was into at the time I’m 40 now btw) So I got to watching it off and on. Still will remember Mr Baker and his he played it. Nice to see him one more time and remind me that I’m only as old as I feel

That may possibly be the best scene in the entire sixty year run. I love the wink at 2:16. Doctors have met doctors before, it's not clear to me why this doctor would be quite so astonished, and delighted, to meet a future incarnation of himself. Perhaps just because he has such good memories of being that particular doctor. Whatever, the obvious, instant bonding between them just gets me every time.

He’d regenerated into another form while the Tom Baker version was still young, so it probably struck him odd to see that version of himself as an old man. That explains the whole line about “revisiting a few” faces.
He's astonished and delighted because he--11 specifically--has been told that he's going to Trenzalore to die. He fears it, and after all this time, he's facing what looks like very real death.
11 spent the whole episode being the Doctor for the Doctor, giving 10 and War hope that there's a positive end to the horror he experienced in the Time War--that he survives and thrives, but didn't have anyone to help with his own fears. And then, who, impossibly, should show up, but the Doctor? Just by showing up, the Doctor proved to the Doctor that there's a way through Trenzalore, and that there was hope for a good future still.
The way Tom just appears on screen with the presence and power as the Curator, but we all know him as the fourth Doctor. I never forget a face... absolutely marvellous film making.

I was in a cinema watching this live and as soon as we heard that voice, my dad who had grown up in Tom bakers era grabbed my hand and started crying
He was the greatest Doctor ever. My first introduction to WHO, was during the Tom Baker era. Matt Smith must have thought it was Christmas morning and he was a kid again, when Tom walked onto the set, I know I would have.

I was sat on the couch watching it, saw the whole "all the doctors" scene, and was *gutted* that Tom wasn't in it, then we get the roundels,.. and then BOOM , that voice. I don't think 7 words in a show have ever had such an impact. , followed by me shouting YES !!! like a loon, neighbours must have been wondering !
When he says “congratulations” and they shake hands you KNOW that was Tom to Matt not Doctor to Doctor. Matt looked positively giddy during that brief moment.

The way Matt has always managed to portray not just an older character, but be truly believable as someone who's lived hundreds of years. Him and Tom Baker in a scene together, perfect.

Anybody who hasn't had a chance to watch Tom's iconic Doctor in action is missing out on a legendary performance. Simply brilliant. I could see why Matt was so happy to do that scene with Tom in particular. I think they have mutual respect for one another.

There's a strange urgency in Tom Bakers eyes, at least there is to me. It makes me feel as if that's the doctor on his well and true final life, near the very end and he simply wanted to see the joy of one of his youthful selves just one last time.
I'm not gonna be surprised if the Curator is literally about to embark on his definite final journey (to Trenzalore of course) where he would finally rest his head and dies in peace.
Him juggling about whether or not the Doctor is him is his final cheeky lie, before the liar lies in Trenzalore.

I have to agree. A great veteran actor that truly knows how to bring magic to a scene. Can't wait to hear Tom as "The Bendu" in "Star Wars Rebels" on Disney XD this fall. That will be epic.

SPOILER ALERT: With the Thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration in The Power of the Doctor today, finally - FINALLY - the Curator’s prediction of revisiting a few of the old favourite faces has come true.
It’s truer than ever given the guardian(s) of the edge as well
It's not really a prediction as it's one thing said by one writer and then used by another writer. Especially considering how it's been nearly 10 years now. This was never intended. And if ratings were higher I doubt Tennant would've come back as well. It's more akin to coincidence in other words.

Yes, they’re technically the same person - the doctor, but then Tom baker would be referring to Matt Smith in this scene as “we” instead of “you” in this scene if you consider Capaldi and Smith, the same person

I love how Tom Baker said "You'll be visiting a few old favourites," and we have probably the Nations favourite doctor back. This line is more powerful now that I think about it
Tennant modelled a lot of aspects of his doctor off of Tom Bakers fourth doctor minus how human Tennant's version was that was quite distinguishable from Baker's
Someone Davies knew the people after him would screw up and an old docotr would have to rescue the franchise...that's bloody amazing.

I first watched this in a theater during the 50th Anniversary Celebration. When I first heard Tom Baker's voice my heart literally skipped a beat and it brought tears to my eyes. The whole theater gasped! I felt like I had been transported back in time to when I was 12 years old watching my first Doctor Who adventure, _The Hand of Fear._ Mr. Baker is and will always be my Doctor.
In the theater I was in, when Tom uttered his first line, some people gasped, others cheered, and I was stunned. I couldn't move....No, it couldn't be...The audience, at the end, clapped for 10 minutes straight...

My hubby nearly jumped out this chair, "That voice! Tom!" I remarked, "It was like you knew him." "I did. Tom was my friend through some hard years!" Listening to even this clip brings a lump to my throat.
You know it’s sad. When I first watched this in the cinema with my dad, who was a huge doctor who fan (Tom baker being his favourite) I never knew what a big deal this was, my dad died Christmas that year, and now being such a massive doctor who fan now, I would’ve loved to talk to him about it and understand what a big deal it was for him.

I would watch doctor who with my grandfather. He’d been watching since the first doctor. He said Tom baker was always his favorite. As soon as he heard Tom bakers voice he was ecstatic. Miss the hell out of that old man

I love Tom to. Love his voice, love his hair (which still looks great!), love his blue eyes and definitely love that big smile of Tom's. I have less then two season's left to watch of his. I can't wait. Loving Tom's Doctor so far and I think his Doctor is sooooooooo cute, funny and sexy. What do you think?
He's so wonderful, I wish I could meet him just once. When he finally goes to join the others - William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, then the universe will never be the same.
i have to say as soon as i heard him i started bawling and smiling so hard my face hurts now, to me tom baker was THE doctor and always will be, most of the others did great and especially these new doctors, but nobody will ever fill baker's shoes, how could they, he was a giant of a man
He was the first Doctor I saw, and he's apparently one of the fan favorites.
"You know I really think you might", combined with Smith's reaction - the single best Doctor Who moment there is.
It's probably the best line in the entire series.
I was at a big watch-party in a local pub when this aired, and I will never forget the cheer that went up when we all heard that voice.

There's no way in hell Gallifrey and the Timelords have been destroyed forever. The Master, always coming back from the brink of death or even actual death, pointedly said he'd kept all Timelord bodies. There will be hand waving explanations at some point.

Allan Buchanan I really don’t see how they can bring it back after all life got vaporized, but even if they do the damage has been done. Gallifrey existed for what 4 series before Chibnall decided to nuke it again? Really only two if you start counting from the end of series 9 (which was when the doctor actually found it again and it was out of pocket dimension again). Chibnall just gave a middle finger to the whole 50th anniversary (whose entire point was to put Gallifrey back in play) and Moffat. Regardless of if it comes back or not Gallifrey just becomes a joke. Destroy a planet and bring it back enough times (really more than once) and people stop caring.
Finally! One of the modern Doctors meets the LEGEND. No one else to this day has held the role as long as he has. No one else has defined it as long as he has. His voice still sends chills down fans' (of the old show) spines 38 years since he handed the Tardis keys to Peter Davison. Tom Baker is truly a legend among the Doctor's incarnations. He looks very good for 84 years old.
Tom Baker will always be MY Doctor. I stopped watching when Smith took the role because The Doctor is NOT a geeky frat boy.

Crazy foreshadowing here, and it’s wild looking back at it
Tom Baker's voice is so commanding, his delivery is so cryptic and charismatic that it makes your head spin.
This will forever remain one of my favorite pieces of Whovian Lore. No matter what crazy stuff happens, I will always take comfort in the implication (fact?) that the Doctor will not only regenerate into some of their previous faces, but also that they will inevitably come back to this museum to work as it's curator.
While watching this video I had a thought. On that inevitable day when Doctor Who will present its 'last' episode, for the time being, I thought how wonderful if the 'last' Doctor regenerated into Tom Baker. Well, that would be when he retired to the Museum{?} And of course, when the next generation's "Doctor" comes along, there can be visits by the New Doctors to discuss what ever dilema they are going through at the time. It's just a thought, and I do believe that it might be interesting to those future fans.

When 11 told Clara about regeneration in the following episode he referenced her meeting 10 and “Grandad” so I think he’s the only one that remembers since the other 2 crossed into his timeline

When I was in the theatre, sitting there with my mum who has watched Doctor Who since the very first episode aired, having both been screaming/crying with the rest of the theatre over all the other little references, callbacks etc, the second she heard Baker she immediately started saying 'No, no no no no way'. When they showed his face, I didn't recognise him at first, but mum - she asked me if I wanted a jelly baby, and I think we both started crying haha
This show is absolutely like no other, the fact it has generations of fans is a testament to that. Mum often says that as a child she never thought she'd still be watching her favourite show with her daughter.

I would have loved to have been amongst other DW fans watching it in cinemas. Instead, I was up at 6am in my PJs with eventually my 5 year old for company. We had bananas and custard for brekkie as I couldn't handle fish custard at that time of the morning. Besides, bananas are a great source of potassium and ideal party food. No pears.
My three year joined us a bit later and hid under a blanket when the Zygons came out. Great memories.

When it happened I was watching with my family, but only me and my brother in law got it from his voice alone. when he spoke we both gasped. and everyone was like what? Then when they showed him they got it. Ohhhh his voice is unmistakable to me. and the music fit so well. Just the whole scene was magical.

Me and my grandad watched this in his hospital room. Not the biggest tele or the loudest but boy did Tom Baker's voice boom!
A magical moment, one I will never forget. Both our favourite doctors in one room at the same time. He took my hand and smiled with a twinkle in his eye.
I like to think he was content in the end because of this and thought that all things were possible.

They killed Dr Who the moment Chibnall took over and it's better to just pretend the series ended with Capaldi (even though a lot of his episodes were a let down and Moffat has a way of ruining great ideas). When this first aired over 10 years ago, I marked out like a maniac and wept like a child. I still do. Tom Baker will always be "My" Doctor. and he was absolutely brilliant.
The foreshadowing in this paid off tonight
The only way this scene could have been better would be. As 11 heads back into the tardis the curator reaches into his coat pocket and hand 11 a small bag.
"A little something for the roads ahead," says curator as he walks off.
11 goes into the tardis and as the engine starts up he curiously opens the bag to see it's contents. He looks in side smilesand chuckles to himself . The camera pans to the bag to reveal it is full of jelly babies.
You always wondered what Tom baker's doctor would pull out of his pockets, I remember in one of the Dalek stories Genesis I think they asked him to empty his pockets and all manner of things came out !!!!

I know that Colin Baker gripes about not having a role in the special, but if you think about it Tom Baker is the earliest surviving actor to play the Doctor since the first three actors have sadly passed away. It seems appropriate that he would have an appearance.
Tom Baker regretted not doing the 20th Anniversary special, "The Five Doctors" in 1983, so it's good that he was able to come back for the 50th!

2:05 the curator/ future doctor said "in the future you will be revisiting old ones, just the old favorites." Today I found out David Tennent is coming back as the doctor again and I can't tell if this was intentional foreshadowing if they knew the future they wanted like the route they wanted to head in and its all unraveling finally!!

It's pretty clear that the doctor means one of his faces. He's pretty bad with human faces. Always has been.
Also the doctor had just regenerated and he’s always a little weird (or weirder) for a bit after he regenerates.
Let’s not forget the fact that Thirteen basically started her first adventure having no idea what her name is but knew there was stuff that needed to be done. And Eleven basically started his new regeneration by trying to test his new taste buds. Yeah, The Doctor is strange each regeneration.
