- A classic in its own way, Kingdom Hearts has been around since 2002, and now we are up to the third instalment. The game itself is a mash-up of video games and animations taken from the worlds of Final Fantasy, Disney, and Kingdom Hearts itself.
Sure, the plotlines and characters can seem a little confusing at times, but the franchise has amassed its fair share of hardcore fans in the past 17 years, and all of these fans have noticed something off about the latest installment.

Not including the Final Fantasy characters was a huge oversight. I think they heavily underestimated how much players expected to see them again, and misunderstood the reason why.
Naw Nomura was pissed at Squared Enix... Ergo why he only showed Yazora... He was pissed they changed his version of final fantasy...so the only final fantasy things we get is his adaptation as VERUM REX
Without the FF characters, this doesn't feel like a crossover between SquareEnix and Disney anymore. this feels like a Disney game made by SquareEnix. I remember fanboying whenever I saw my favorite FF characters on screen interacting with Disney characters. such as Hades talking to Cloud about killing Hercules, and Cid arguing with Merlin about the conditions of the house. I loved seeing my favorite characters meet. but with all these crossovers now gone, this is like if we just focused on Iron Man in the Avengers movie and no one else. just Tony. all other characters are absent. this isn't an Iron Man movie, this is an Avengers movie, but all the other characters are no where to be found. they're not even mentioned.
Even if Sora, Riku and the others are strong enough to stand on their own as their own characters now, the lack of FF still leaves a void. I really hope to see them return in the future.

Nomura said it is a Disney game through and through and he only used FF characters because Sora and friends were unknown at the time so it helped draw in an audience for the early games, now that Sora is well known, final fantasy characters are not needed anymore. It makes sense, and he said it himself. Especially with Star Wars and Marvel potentially being in KH4. Small chance for FF characters coming back and if they do probably small hype cameos. Very small. He also said he hates when people think its a Final Fantasy game and say its a "Final Fantasy and Disney collab" it's not.

Too many disney characters. I would have appreciated it if we see at least 1 FF character. Well i guess we will have to wait until DLC. And no MOOGLES dont count
Although I'm not much of a fan of FF,I really appreciated those characters and seeing them gone is like "whaa?DAFUQ happened to them?".I dunno,personally,I think it's because they made Dissidia for the FF fans.Maybe thats why they cut them out and decided to just focus on the Original + Disney characters.Probably the cost is too much to put all the previous FF characters AND add the new ones.
Honestly, I agree. I felt like they should have put more focus on the original story. Because the only important stuff happens at the beginning and the end, which is a bit of a disappointment.

@@janitraho3457 I've been hearing that it's probably because Disney's been so super protective of Frozen (personal theory it's also because they were developing the sequel) they didn't want any of the characters changed in any way. Also personal theory - the labyrinth was supposed to be the inside of the ice palace but Disney said NOPE and they made it a complete side thing.
Let's be honest here the reason why Kingdom Hearts exist is because of Disney X Final Fantasy and not having FF in KH is like removing a peace of the charm of KH. Yeah you could say that there's A few FF nods and Easter egg here in there but it's not the same :/ plus FF characters are like the characters that shows you the ropes and warns you of the danger of each world. if not they pretty much serve as your sparring body or a pretty cool secret boss. :)
Kingdom Hearts was what really got me interested in Final Fantasy
@@loonytunescrazy exactly. Because KH is now solidified and established, there is no need for FF characters anymore. They were only needed to give the series a good jumping off point. Without them in the first game or two, gamers back then would pass it off as some kiddy rpg without even giving it a try.

It is *NOT* for the best that we don’t see final fantasy characters in kingdom hearts .... those guys are the very first friends you encounter after you literally witnessed the end of the world in your island . The way Kingdom Hearts 1 portrayed them made them look like family ... like the only place where I can feel really safe ... in kingdom hearts 2 we fought alongside them in the battle in hollow bastion made our bonds even stronger ... in birth by sleep we visit their hometown but don’t get to meet them and I was okay because it’s a prequel and they were probably still too young back then , but for KH3 not having FINAL FANTASY characters , I'm pissed ... no ... I'm triggered ! I want my family back ! I don’t give a single piece of shit about Star Wars or marvels ... The DLC'd better be in Radiant Garden ... don’t you even think about stripping KH3 of his Final Fantasy cast ! We were expecting new characters in the series but instead we lost the characters we had in the game to begin with ... what the heck , Nomura !
More like "What the heck, Disney". I am sure Nomura had some plan about where to put FF characters properly so it wouldn't mess the original story, but I got strong vibe that Disney might be behind this influence.

I'm surprised this isn't being talked about more. The main reason I got into Kingdom Hearts 17 years ago was for the Square Enix (Final Fantasy) stuff. I just couldn't bring myself to get this game after everything I loved about it got stripped. It feels wrong to me personally. The whole crossover of Disney and FF was so unique, but now Kingdom Hearts is just another Disney game.

@@O_Canada I kept on until dream drop distance. Never finished it. Something just felt off about it and some of the world's were just dull. It felt like KH went into Try hard overdrive to the max with it's story and I honestly found it not as exciting as before.

@VI True, but they don’t anymore. So many original characters have appeared that FF just isn’t relavent anymore. Now I’m not saying that FF should be absent in the series. Seeing a few cameos from other square games has always been kind of cool to see in this series. But it is clear that they are not a part of the main narrative anymore.

Edit - Already finished KH III, and what a disappointment the story was. I thought the decision to left out the FF characters could mean Nomura was focusing on original characters and good narrative, but guess what? Too many "next kh" baits, story wasn't coherent, dialogues were bad lmao, and it did feel lacking.
Even Baymax world was a disappointment, and the Frozen world, it felt like it is still fine if Sora wasn't there. Story happened on its own, pretty much Sora wasn't involved. He and his team kept falling and falling every time he reached the top of the snow mountain. And then went back down anyway and Elsa and Anna things happened. Lol whut.
Don't get me wrong though, I like the game. But the charm was lacking.

Agreed...makes you wonder if they left out content specifically for the purpose of DLC like they did with FF15. Although KH3 is no where near as bad as that was.
More than anything I want a really cool Coliseum that brings together bosses and characters across different times throughout the series. Or maybe some alternate world where everyone is mixed in for some odd reason.

From what nomura said in the interview about dlc. The ff characters weren’t included cause of time constraint. They were making the model of Leon (without texture). Until time was running out.
So ff characters were include at first, but the original characters had to come first.
As for dlc; they will be free small dlc. With one big “final mix like” before the end of 2019. If according to plan.
I'm not kidding, I'm forcing myself to play it because I spent €70 on it. Big worlds with a whole lot of nothing. No Final Fantasy, no nothing. I actually have no love for this game.

@@whodis715 Yeah, agreed. I'm still going to finish 3 eventually though. After chain of memories, I refused to purchase the side games. It just feels like they were milking money from a beloved franchise. No one should have had to wait so long for KH3.
When I first saw the verum rex cutscene in KH3, I thought Noctis, Ignis, and Ardyn would make appearances.

This is one of the first videos I've ever down voted. How the hell can you say FF characters weren't needed? As a loyal KH fan, how can you even suggest that their exclusion was for the best?
Getting rid of FF characters is like getting rid of the backbone of KH. How are people okay with this?
Don’t shoot the messenger. From what I understand that was the companies reasoning for not including them. They were initially in the games as fan service to draw people into the series, but now with how many original characters it has from the organization to the main trios, to the Foretellers, and the Dandelions the company wanted to focus on concluding the stories of the characters who the series is actually focused on: its original characters. But who knows what they have planned for down the road, they could easily include DLC to add a world for the FF cast, and even if they don’t that’s what criticism is for, if enough people voice their opinion it could help to direct what they add onto the game. Either way KH3 would’ve been in a tough spot, if they’d delayed it even longer to include everything they were forced to omit people would’ve been pissed, but having it in its current state still has people pissed, so the company was pretty much damned if they did and damned if they didn’t, but at least now they don’t have to worry about the deadline and they can add new stuff at their leisure without having to worry about more criticism about delays

When they just have Leon in town, with no elaborate backstory as to how he arrived, or Cloud randomly fighting in the Colosseum, or Sephiroth's hidden boss fights, it was clear then they weren't the main cast. It was Square x Disney. Game journalists sold it as FF x Disney, and Square propped their OG characters on FF to sell the games. But 15 years later, FF7 isn't a hot ticket item. Sure, there's a remake, but it doesn't have the hype of the original. We all know where the story goes. I had to play the original, it was hyped that much. The sequel? I played XV. I don't care. I care about The Last of Us 2 and Cyberpunk 2077. We've already got better games this generation, guaranteed. 7 Remake loses it's urgency and impact with one word: Remake. Again, 15 years ago, FF made sense. KH, honestly, deserves better than FF now.
Thats still no excuse. 1 and 2 are console games. The others are all on handhelds (with their own set of problems), so even after ao many years i don't blame people for being pissed that theres no FF characters in the 3rd major console release. Plus the shit about more focus on KH original characters makes no damn sense when you still barely get any of them in the story for this 3rd game.

The FF characters was the hook. The main attraction is the KH characters themselves. They can now stand on their own, without the need of Square Enix’s other characters from the FF series.

The truth is the FF were also an integral part of the KH experience and to not revert back to the original balance will backfire in KH4. With KH3 fans have just about given a pass to SE because we got FF characters in the Re:Mind DLC; and I’m hoping that’s a hint to got back to a heavier FF presence in future mainline KH games.

I kind of wanted to see their interaction with Ansem and the former Organization members. The ones that ruined their home after all with that research. Sure it was all Xehanort, but they still played a hand in it, and I’d imagine some distrust with the former Organization members as well.
Also, Ansem should award a flipping medal to Leon’s group for fixing Radiant Garden XD

Let be honest. When sora lost his power and need advice in kh3. He should just asking squall and other FF friends in radiant garden. Afterall FF character is the first one who helped sora when he didn't know what is keyblade. Basicaly FF character have huge role in KH1 and KH2.
Prakasa Adnan I’m 2 years late to this reply, but it would’ve been PERFECT for Sora to ask Cloud for advice. Cloud, for a portion of FF7, has a mental breakdown and cannot function mentally or physically and has to rehabilitate himself. They should’ve had Sora seek advice from Cloud and Hercules IMO
I really miss Leon and Yuffie. They were especially important supporting characters in KH and KH2.
The issue isn't even the lack of final fantasy characters imo... I'm 5-6 worlds in (discounting 100 acre woods) and I have not fought a single organization member. There aren't even many optional bosses available post-game in comparison to the original KH, KH2 or their FM alternatives. The features of KH3 should've been added onto KH2, as of now KH2/FM remains my favourite.
I just hope the DLC gives me a sephiroth boss fight just so I feel like my Ultima weapon isn’t wasted
I think KH3 is to small a game for the amount of time we had to wait for it. Just doing the main story is only about a 24 to 30 hour story. I was hopeing for something like an 80 game with a final fantasy world thrown in there.
I played 2 hrs, then someone told me there weren't ff characters and I haven't played it since.
I thought I was the only one that reacted that way. I hate I paid all that money for a disney only game.

Also, I find it odd that there are more Final Fantasy characters in Monster Hunter World right now, than there are in Kingdom Hearts. If you told me that years ago I would have laughed it off as a joke. Shoot, even Tekken has more Final Fantasy characters right now.
Well if KH doesnt allow then to fight in its world then they will eventually have to find others world to fight in

Meh, I love the original KH characters. However the main reason I loved KH is because it was Disney meets FF. It was a unique premise you coukdnt find anywhere else. It lost that and no I'm not paying to DLC it in.
Simple . The newer kids don’t have a clue about the old final fantasy characters and this was marketed for this generation . It’s been 13 years and final fantasy 7 and the other characters that were there where already old as it was back then when the original kingdom hearts came out

The Final Fantasy and Disney merge was the reason players were drawn into Kingdom hearts in the first place. It was an unheard of idea that worked so amazingly well and still did not steal the limelight from Sora and his quests.
Cutting out Final fantasy, especially after making many characters essential in some of the plot, was a bold move. And a bad one in my opinion.

yeah... but Nomura says a lot of things. Like 358/2 days is "intentionally suppose to be boring." to reflect the Nobodies and their mundane existence.
i personally feel in my subjective opinion that
- they spent too much time developing KH3 that they had no time or a place to put the FF characters.
- they could possibly of just forgot, but it is highly unlikely based on interviews suggesting that they were cut intentionally... which they didnt need to do entirely and could of easily had a small cameo or reference seeing as many titles brought FF into the world of KH and have the characters establish friendships or interactions with Sora.
- the most likely reason that i believe is because of the development of FF7R which was in development as well during the time of KH3. While KH3 came out earlier they may of not wanted Cloud and sephiroth in KH3 because they wanted Cloud and Sephiroths modern design to first appear in FF7R before having a updated modern version in KH3. (.... but... You could bring up Dissidia NT which has updated models for Cloud and sephiroth and they also didnt need to use Cloud and sephiroth as they could of easily used Noctis or Lightning.)
who knows, but KH3 was a big let down as a whole and KH4 doesnt look good either as of right now especially when you consider how great Yozura cutscenes were and what might Donald and Goofy look like next to Sora's new design...

Honestly, I wouldn't have needed much. Just let Leon and Yuffie work in the background somewhere during the Radiant Garden Cutscenes (I'm still salty about not being able to go there, too). Let Aerith wish us a safe journey. We had Hayner, Pence and Olette, so why not let Cifer throw a line in. We had stories with these characters, connections. It's not about letting FF promote KH, but about us as players meeting the friends we made in all those years. I really do hope the DLCs bring some of the much needed story content.
FFIX is my favorite hands down. The cast, world, story, and the music. Especially the music. The word masterpiece can't be used enough.

seems like too many people are a bunch of whiners really. the only real reason this game should get any hate is due to its insanely wild storyline. its pretty hard to follow if you aren't doing your homework. as far as characters and worlds not being showcased, its really not that big a problem. not every person or world is going to be relevant in a given part of the story. just like we fall out of comms with friends from time to time due to ebb and flow of our lives. doesn't mean they aren't friends or there anymore, it just means that right now, we aren't able to connect with them. besides.....we need to know wtf happened to sora at the end anyways.
also, love how we complain about how long things are taking for the next game, then bitch when its not everything we wanted. maybe if we weren't giving the creators so much shit for taking their time, they wouldn't "rush things" and leave us disappointed.

Honestly I expected Sora to meet the whole ff15 cast, I enjoyed the game and it ties in well with the plot of the story with Noctis having trouble with his destiny and accepting it. And there's more characters to choose than the main cast Ardyn would be a excellent secret boss by how he uses his power of darkness, they missed out but hopefully we see them in a secret world dlc

I was 12 when KH came out and what drew me in was the Disney stuff, and I still love Disney please don’t get me wrong, but what I ended up loving was the FF stuff and the stuff with Sora, Riku, and Kairi. Once I hit my angsty teen years, I found I liked the more edgy FF stuff. They felt more my speed, being quiet, angsty ppl but had friends and liked each other’s company. That was me as a teen, quiet, angsty, kinda emo, but I really liked my friends. Cloud became my favorite character since I related to him the most. Roxas became my favorite KH character since he was so mysterious and more compelling than Sora. I’ll always have the best memories playing KH and KH2, but I feel like I’ve sadly outgrown this franchise as it’s not like it used to be.
I remember talking with my friends and saying that 100% we will see Lightning and other FF13 caracthers . Its obvious they gonna put the FFXV crew in it . I wish there was more ff6 caracthers but they are not going to do that. At the end , not even 1 single caracther made it in XD looooool
That's why I invested in Kingdom hearts, back when I got KH1 on my FFX preview disc back when I first got my ps2 watching the intro with my favourite FF character got me excited! It is sad that I feel they used FF as a selling point then excluded what was a big part of the first two main games in the series story and excellent side quests/secert bosses. I really do hope they bring them back lots of missed opportunities and let's be honest dissdia on ps4 was not amazing imagining including all them characters into KH3?

To hell with marvel or star wars world's, please just give us a trip to Midgar where Sephiroth is revamped as a secret boss in his final form and we can fight alongside Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red 13 and the like. Maybe even throw in a link summon with Bahamut Zero for fun. And for the love of God let us use Meteor without having to wait for the team attack command with Donald.

Before I gave up kh3, I once have this idea: every final fantasy games represented by it's characters in kh3
no ff characters in the base game really hurt the game imo.
That's probably because they are going to be all involved in the sequel or final installment.
Kingdom hearts intoduced me to final fantasy to be honest. I would have never known who sepiroth, cloud, tifa weren't because of KH. Not having them there feels... empty
I think worlds like Tangled and Frozen could have used an FF character included ala Auron in KH2. Especially considering the party members in those worlds were lacking and how both worlds were near replicas of the movies..

I really did think Lightning would have been in KH3 during my long years of waiting and I wanted her to be so.
I kind of think the reason that you don't see any Cameo appearances of any of the Final Fantasy characters in The Kingdom Hearts 3 or any other characters from square games it's because they probably just wanted to focus on putting original characters they have in the KH3 game and including the Disney characters at least that's what I think.
I could be very wrong about that but still if they didn't want to focus on putting their final fantasy characters in the story why didn't at least made any cameos ? of course the only one they put was just Moogle but of course it has to be in the game because it's the supposed to be the shopkeeper but still it doesn't make sense but oh well

They want to focus on the main characters of KH from different spin-off, KH3 being the culmination of all the previous games, Nomura wanted the game to stand on their own and avoid getting overshadowed by FF character appearances. But then again what if the Verum Rex world becomes the next adventure of Sora, being the parallel universe of FF characters.
They should have put Disney characters for boss fights like fighting Mickey in a boss fight and he has to be a op wizard and key blade master

Without seeing them complete their storyline in KH3, I had zero incentive to buy the set... ...despite me having waited well over a decade in excitement for the conclusion to, what should’ve been, an epic story... :, (
Them taking out the Final Fantasy cast killed this game for me, it was already hard enough to play this train wreck but seeing them was keeping me going until I found out they removed them. I got to Monsters Inc and quit and I have yet to even try to force myself to play it again
While I agree the characters and story can stand on its own today, it is quite the bummer that all of the FF characters were written out of the KH timeline and story. For the old KH games this played a huge role in delivering nostalgia. While kh3 still delivers nostalgia, it certainly doesn't do so through Final Fantasy characters anymore, instead it does so through its own brand... It's sad to see the FF characters go, but maybe someday, a better game than Dissdia will allow us to play and interact with these characters again
Piss on that. The reason fans loved kingdom hearts was because it fused two worlds together perfectly. Bringing with it a new but nostalgic feeling. The more the game added "original" characters the more convoluted and ridiculous it got, straying away from what people loved about it originally. They didn't need to keep adding in all these Disney and Pixar characters. They could have had a set amount for both, not trying to force a God damn advertisement into the damn game. Who the fuck cares about a big hero 6 world?not every new movie, or Disney ride, needs to be shoe horned into the game.

The fact that they ommited such popular characters, only to maybe put them in as dlc, if at all, is a bad call. Could easily have included them.

I knew that the FF chars would have less of a presence because there resistance story for the most part was over. Hollow bastion was Radiant Garden again they were done more or less. Y,R,P, Leon, Yuffie, Aerith & Cid their part was effectively done ss for Cloud & Sephiroth they were done too. The only 1s I'm surprised about there absence is Siefer as he came from Twilight town.

The developers at square said they wouldnt put FF characters in the game about 2 yrs ago or so because they wanted to cater to Disney fans. Surprised you didnt know about the interview.

I feel KH3 would’ve been in a tough position either way. With how long it took to release people would’ve complained if they’d delayed it even further to include everything they wanted, but in its current state they’re still complaining. Square was practically damned if they did and damned if they didn’t. But now that it’s released they can add stuff at their leisure and work on DLC, hopefully they’ll see what people want for the game and create new content accordingly like plot for the FF characters, I’d certainly hope for another Sephiroth fight. My hope would be either for Radiant Garden or maybe a return to the Tournaments at Olympus but add character interactions for returning FF characters participating in it. Though I will say I agree with the reason they omitted the FF characters initially, they were there for fan service to begin with to help get the series off the ground, now with its own huge cast of original characters it should focus on developing them further and concluding their storylines, they don’t need the FF characters anymore. That doesn’t mean I still don’t want to see them, but I understand they’ve filled the role that they needed to fill. By this point including them would be purely for fan service reasons, which there is nothing wrong in. I’d personally love to see characters like the ones in the restoration committee come back, or even new additions like Cecil and Kain from FF4, Terra from FF6 (although then we’d have two Terra’s, Riku and Rikku) maybe even replace Sephiroth with Kefka for some new character interactions and boss fights. My point being I don’t think not including them was necessarily a bad call, but now with the game out the potential for new add on’s is endless!

also.....KH had a habit of butchering FF characters technically.....so not everybody was happy about them being there ANYWAYS. that being said, seeing as not once has ALL THE WORLDS been saved from darkness, so likely sora will end up going into a new era to return the FF worlds back to light. perhaps an even darker era than this one was by the end. assuming the series continues that long.

Why even add Tidus Wakka and Selphie to Destiny Islands, even adding Selphie in KH2 talking to Kairi with mention of Tidus and Wakka only to say “yeah they don’t matter anymore” most importantly the Hallow Bastion Restoration Committee, the group that sent us off on our adventure to begin with, why take them out? This game was such a mess. Maybe it was just the wait but it felt very empty compared to the Previous numbered titles.
I guess they're just focusing more of the original cast this time.

Definitely don’t need a Star Wars or MCU themed world. If anything, Big Hero 6 is the middle ground in playing in a Disney world with Marvel characters. Radiant Garden or Traverse Town would be much appreciated
