Is The Floatwheel Good?

  • The Floatwheel has its quirks but it's a good board. I think in five years we'll look back on the Adv V1 and laugh at the ridiculous stuff we were riding, in a lot of respects I think these things are in their infancy.

    This man reads his "Help" pop-ups 👏😂 Great video man, both of em! Good stuff, we need more well informed content like this out there.
    Minor note, max duty cycle is actually 95%! There's a 5% safety margin to protect the controller, so 95% DC is where you'd experience a top speed nosedive. You can see this if you freespin the board and watch RT Data. Not a huge deal since it aint exactly easy to hit those numbers regardless haha, awesome work otherwise!

    Most excellent review. I really enjoyed your style. Clean and concise. Very good explanation of ATR. I’m very excited to get a FW.

    This video and your last one is VERY very informative. Makes me feel better to get a floatwheel when the V2 parts come stock.

    Once again, the best float wheel review yet. Very well said and level headed. Thanks again
    So on a gt s for example, the motor and voltage makes it very much capable of 30+ But pushback hits hard at 26. People push through pushback on gts(I do on mine all the time) and xrs even more. And they don't really buck that often if you know how to do it. How would you estimate how fast you can push your board to go(lets say to 85-90 duty cycle) based off speed and the voltage/motor/power because the 25 mph pushback is a safety precaution, not the actual limits of the board.

    Definitely interested in getting a float wheel adv pro. Me living in the Northeast USA also, The Buffalo New York area. No hurry to get one before next spring with limited rides over the winter that my XR will fill the gap. Hopefully by spring version 2 will be available.

    Let’s say I install the float package, i make some tweaks and some more if something was not good. After that, How often would you say I might have to tweak things to keep this board working? Never? Every 10 rides?
    I’m trying to get a feel on how much shop time I’ll be doing verses ride time.

      Once you get the board set the way you want, you really shouldn't have to go back in and tweak things. Shop time is more function of how lucky you get with QC on your board.

    How do you like the lowered rails? Were you able to fit the fenders on to the lowered rails when you switched to the Maxxis?

    • @crashyride
      @crashyride  Před 3 měsíci

      The mini fenders fit fine, the fender itself won't fit with it lowered. Need to Dremel it down for that apparently.

      Boards shipping now have v2 plastics which don't shatter like the v1.

      The best advice I've heard is place your order and forget about it. Your board will show up...eventually. Overseas shipping from China is very slow.

    Is ATR present in Future Motion boards? Because it makes a huuuuge difference in my ADV. I rode without it using the default tune for a while but once I start using Burnerz and Nicole tunes it was a total game changer.

    • @crashyride

    • @bsd103
      @bsd103 Před 8 měsíci

      I think there is a subtle amount, I think I also prefer ATR a bit more mellow

    • @nicoaleman
      @nicoaleman Před 8 měsíci

      FM boards absolutely have some form of ATR, but it's kept very mellow. You don't want aggressive ATR for racing on trails generally, as it can lead to issues with fast transitions (too nose down for downhill to uphill transition, or tail dragging off tabletops for example), so they have it pretty dialed for something that can't be configured. But if you know you don't ride like that and would rather have more forgiving nose/tail clearance on steep hills, it's real nice to have aggressive ATR for sure

    • @MrDmadness
      @MrDmadness Před 8 měsíci

      @@nicoalemanfuture motion does not have this, they increase lift on the nose when cornering and the motor ignores the "aggression " setting and accelerates if required to jeep the nose up. Its why turning up steeps always works better, future motions coding reads it from the x-y axis yaw angle not from the output . Respectfully ;)

    • @nicoaleman
      @nicoaleman Před 8 měsíci +1

      @MrDmadness Have done plenty of testing and observations that point at some form of ATR-type behavior being present on FM boards. Their tilting is smooth enough and the effect is mellow enough that it's really not noticeable unless you're focusing on it, but it can be observed if watching someone else from the side. The behavior matches with what you'd expect from ATR, which estimates tilt needed based on how fast you're accelerating given the motor current at that time, rather than something like torque tiltback where it's solely just based on motor current. It even has similar side effects as ATR, such as the nose tilting up when riding in a headwind due to the increased resistance making the board assume you're going uphill.
      Additionally, FM boards notoriously *drop* the nose when cornering, that's why it's so easy to drag the nose when trying to turn tight, while it's no issue at all on VESC even without Turn Tilt. Going up hills at a diagonal in general though is easier since you're effectively decreasing the hill grade by not taking it straight on.
      Grain of salt of course, at the end of the day it's still based on observations and educated guesses since we can't look at their source code or anything, and you don't necessarily have to trust me. But I've spent a bit longer than I'd like to admit testing, observing, and thinking about this stuff both since I got into Onewheeling and especially since I got into VESC development, and I'm fairly confident that this is what's going on in the brains of FM boards.
