When Larry’s shots fall dead center in the hoop and the net barely moves as the ball falls through… that is a thing of beauty.
And the snapping sound the net makes after the ball passes through.
That's called hitting the bottom of the net.
When the ball hits the rim before going through the net, i said oh hell Larry's having a bad shooting night.
I would like to see a stat....of all the shots Larry took (not incl dunks) how many found pure net and no rim I think that percentage would be mind blowing
I’m 45, back when I was 13, my uncle took me to a Celtic’s game. My family is NY. I don’t need to say any more! Yanks, Giants, rangers and St John’s. At 13, I watched that man put on a jumper clinic! Right and left handed! He scored 46 and didn’t play the 4th quarter!
Damn! Lol. I'm jealous! Would love to have been there!
I saw this play LIVE, in 1987. Mychal Thomson FOULED Bird as well, hitting his shooting hand/arm...and Bird STILL hit the shot! Look at the way Worthy covered Bird, holding him aggressively, practically terrified Larry will hit the shot...and he did. Lebron James, nor anyone in today's game has done anything remotely like this. And Larry Bird TOLD them the play. Let that sink in, folks.
Bird is the genius in the history of basketball. None will ever beat his effortless technique.
LeBrainless sucks and wouldn't last a season playing in the 80's thru the Bad Boys Era in the 90's. MJ, The Goat got mauled back then and is still the Greatest...it was like 5 man football during the playoffs back then. Remember McHale The Biggest "Softie" in the League Clotheslining Rambis??? The was Hilarious and frightening at the same time. The Current NBA Pansies in Pigtails and Tights wouldn't last a season back then let alone become HOF'ers and play more than ten years talking all those beatings.
I love hearing, how he told them then done it.
I loved to watch Larry play. He brought it every night.
He didn’t foul anyone. That wasn’t a foul back then. Today that would be considered a foul. That’s why we need to bring back the rules from the 80’s and 90’s era.
Can't get enough Larry Legend stories. 🏀
Glad you enjoyed!
I would re-watch every Celtics game he played. Even knowing the results beforehand; watching Larry, in his playing prime, makes the time spent worthwhile.
@@NickSmithNBA Every video you put out there.
To fully appreciate how crazy this story is you need to understand how great a player James Worthy was. First pick of the first round of the NBA draft as a college junior by the reigning Champs, NBA Hall of Fame, and NBA Finals MVP, Worthy was a beast. He tells this story the best, "Fuuu q!"
Cooper, was probably the best cover man in basketball at they era as well.
Coming from great players is real compliment and respect. That Laker team was great.
You’re right. Big Game James was often considered the third best star on that team, but when they other two are arguably the best to play their respective positions, you realize why he gets forgotten at times. To me, there was no better player out on the fastbreak in the history of basketball. He had speed and intelligence and timing. He was awesome.
Worthy was the opposite of that laughing hyena, harlem globetrotter styled "magic" johnson.
As a Celts fan, I hated James Worthy because he was that good. He was really The Laker who put their team over the top of the Celtic.Worthy was dripping with talent who you hated to see his hands on the ball. He’s never given enough credit for those Laker championships after 1986 with Magic and Kareem on the team. James Worthy was awesome.
At Larry's prime, he was unstoppable and has no equal. A completely athlete who did not need unbelievable physical ability to defeat you again and again
Larry just had that black airforce energy in him
😂😂
"Course you know me" Larry was my favorite
Larry was only loud enough usually for the person he was talking to to hear. He didn't yell or pound his chest because he didn't have to. His trash talk was psychological warfare and he viewed it as part of the game. Winning was everything.
What people don't talk enough about is how quick Bird was. No, he couldn't out-sprint you, but he was much quicker than most players in the few steps that mattered. Also, Larry was big, at least 6'9" and probably an inch taller than that. Big.
Agility and timing is as important as speed.
He didn't need to out-sprint anyone. His technique was ingenious without much effort
@@jack-of-all-trades1234don’t forget his st
Stamina he wore players out just ask Kareem .
This “he wasn’t athletic” talk was nonsense. Larry was an athlete unlike any 6’9” forward of his time. He would kill guys who believed that nonsense.
As someone once said... "It aint trash talking if you can back it up".
No player ever made a bigger immediate impact to a team than Larry Bird did when he started for the Celtics. That’s why he should be the GOAT. Nothing against Jordan but Larry Legend will always be my GOAT.
This straight up gave me goosebumps. I wasn’t watching basketball when this first happened, but I’m glad I can still relive these moments today.
"Face." My son is going to use that this weekend. 🤣
hahaha, love it!
We used to say that in HS. It is a classic!!
So lucky growing up in the 80's living 30 minutes from The Garden. Countless games!
Look at all these great men, singing Larry birds praises, that says something.
They gave bird the right name Larry the Legend in his own time a top blazzing killer* We was bless to see the gifted gunslinger in action*
Often you can say a player is different, but man Larry Bird was DIFFERENT.
Excellent video Larry is the ice man!!!
Always thought of Gervin as the iceman but I appreciate the kind words on the video! Haha
That’s very high praise from some Lakers greats. Worthy was a hell of a player on both ends and Scott one of the best on the defensive end.
Of all of them Michael Cooper guarded Larry the best. Even Larry said it. Dats a hell of a compliment comin from Bird.
These were the days of real and fun to watch basketball.
Wish I could have watched those Magic Vs Bird games!
@@NickSmithNBA I was watching a lot of basketball back then but after Bird and Magic left it all went down the drain for me. Haven't watched basketball since except some college playoffs. You missed some great basketball games.
Bird and stars of his era would dominate in today's no touch, slack defense NBA!
I can’t even turn it on today, I will watch, Sir Charles, Shaquille, Kenny and Ernie. They’ve ruined my enjoyment when the chatter is anti cops, anti America worst all is LaDawn James uneducated ignorance.
I can never get tired of hearing these stories about Bird.
Well-compiled and well-edited. Definitely, a thumb's up from me!.
Much appreciated!
Another great edit. Thanks man, I know the story very well, but I really enjoyed it! Your edits are on another level from anyone else
Glad you like them!
Larry Legend
I grew up in NY during the Bird era. We hated Boston but had mad respect for Bird game but his trash talk shut many a man up. The finger🤣
Just admit that you hated Larry growing up. I grew up as a Lakers fan and I hated Larry with passion. Now that I’m much older, I have mad respect for his basketball skills.
I have heard these Bird stories over and over, BUT I never grow tired of them. This video has some interesting editing over other videos about the same stories.
There were lot of people who hated Larry Bird for just that reason and I was one of them but all the respect in the world for Mr. Larry Bird. Wish he stopped beating my team all the time because I had to see Red light up his cigar after the game during the post game interviews.
Respect!
Another great video put together by Nick Smith.
To quote Yogi Berra. I aint bragging if you can back it up
I love Worthy. He says, "he was an asshole" and "I didn't like him" and yet he smiles remembering the games and has nothing by respect.
Larry Bird stories are great, cuz even today he doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Love the Larry Bird videos. As a Lakers' fan, I hated him but respected him. Glad that this shot of his wasn't the greatest shot in that game.
Bird is the best all around basketball player that ever lived
LARRY LEGEND IS A UNICORN AND THE TRUE GOAT!!! 🐐 ☘️
Great stories! Thank you gentlemen for sharing them. Those 80's games between the Lakers and Celtics were legendary. I didn't watch them all but I saw enough.
Seen these stories so many times but I never get sick of them! My future daughter who is due in July and is going to be named Birdie. wasn’t even my idea but I’m cool with it! 😂
The holding there was insane. LeBron would strip off his jersey and go down.and cry
This is just one reason I think Larry would be even more dominate in today's game. If he was that good with people draped all over him, grabbing and hacking, imagine what he could do in todays game. Plus if they did hold and hack, and got called, he shot over 80% from the line, so he'd bury you there as well.
@philr182 His career low was 83.6 and his career high was 93.0
Playing with someone who's telling you what they're about to do is like being 10 years old and playing your dad.
Really enjoyed this. Your post was the clearest and best overall. Thank you
Being from LA I couldn’t stand Larry until years later after the dust settled…. Now I love watching Larry Bird videos….. Same thing with Mario Lemieux
One of the things that Make Larry Legend stand out was that he was aWhite man in a Black man’s world and Dominating, GOAT
Air Jordan's best statistical season with Scottie Pippen even failed to contain an injured Larry Bird. He is called Larry Legend by pundits and his peers for a reason.
Yep look at all those games edge definitely to bird I remember one play third got the ball to win the game with Jordan and pippen guarding bird he drained it in both their faces .
Oh man! I remember the Lakers-Celtics rivalry, and I used to hate Larry Bird... Every time he put up the last-second shot and made it, I was upset for days. But, you got to give it to the Legend... He's right up there with the greatests!!!
Larry Bird is a GENIUS in the history of basketball
I'm ready to watch it all over again 😊
"It was like, Here comes death...Here come Death." LOL. A.C. Green has the best facial expressions. I'd go to his Church just to "watch" him Preach.
Bro I love ur videos they're full of soul, simple and no fluff, dope storytelling thank u
You can compare LeBron, Kobe and maybe half of MJ's career...the depth of great players was so deep in the 80s and 90s..not one of those players had that much competition...and was still great..Larry is the GOAT..period
Awesome edits, brought a lot of good commentary on this from various clips together. Constructed well, and paints the picture of the Legend's prowess very well
Glad you enjoyed it!
Never get tired of them, reel them in!
I was watching all of these great guys play. Good times to be around
Larry is King! Very good as always Nick
He talked the talk❤❤ e❤❤ and he walked❤ ❤❤the walk!😮❤
That pass in the beginning. Marvellous!! LOL!
Larry spoke facts
GOAT
And for the youngheads...the Lakers were hof beast..kareem/ magic..probably 2 and 5, the greatest to ever play the game, add James worthy,Kurt rambus..
So when they talk about Larry being that good..that is coming from GOATS
Larry should be talked about as much as Jordan he was a cold killer straight up assassin
Not just a great time but it was a fun time.
Larry legend!
I met Larry in a nite club in Illinois stood beside this giant of a man and shared a beer, I bought 😅 1979
"I was eating wedding cakes everyday" Larry Bird 😂
That’s one of the best stories ever! Larry Legend!!!😂
At 10:00 min. that is the BEST UM REACTION?? REALIZATION? UNDERSTANDING?? FINALIZATION?? ACCEPTANCE?? ACTKNOWLEDGEMENT ??? FACIAL EXPRESSION ??
I don't know what to call it?? But it is my new ALL TIME FAVORITE EVER......
For us who lived in the Boston area, we were lucky enough to see Bird play until his body just gave out. To say it simply, he had IT and his great play made us want to watch every game to see what new thing he might do. He really was a special, talented player. There are few Boston sports greats that get put anywhere near The Great Bobby Orr or Ted Williams; both can be argued as the greatest who ever played their respective sports. Larry Bird is one of them. That’s not small praise in this town folks!
Damn so Larry bird created the phrase “face “🤯💯
These guys are funny-love it 😂😂
I wish everyone that talks trash, as it's called today could do what I witnessed back then, didn't know the extent of it though. That was just part of it back then, I wish people today could be able to experience the feeling NBA back then during it's real primetime! Thank you for bringing these feelings back to me after all these years. The mid to late 80's was basketball at its best, Mike was great but, back then play was real. Miss that basketball like crazy, money ended up getting in the way too much, I think. Money isn't what life is about, can't tell anyone that now days though. Things are going downhill fast.
Perfectly said.
Won’t say anymore. You got it.
Glad I could bring back some memories with this video !
He often got vilified because he is white, but the black NBA stars of that time, at the very least, respected him because he always backed up his trash talk with results. He actually went on to become good friends with many of them.
great clip THANK YOU
Thanks for watching!
Love it!
He had such a beautiful action.
Larry Legend was and is THE GOAT of basketball.
Finals, game on the line, and he tells them the play ahead of time AND makes the shot.
Great video
Good video bro! Definitely have to react to this 💯
Thanks 💯
Is it just me, or does AC Green look like a bobble head doll with eyes 👀 and an afro? Very underrated player though
Larry Legend...is the GOAT!
Correction: There will NEVER be another Larry Bird.
😁 Excellent!
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
He jumped as well as most, he ran effortlessly, and he out thought all of them...let's get the record straight
Therefore he was athletic … talk about white stereotypes
Wish a movie would be made of all of this. I’d buy tickets like crazy and see it over and over.
You put out amazing content. I'm pissed at myself for just now discovering it. Great job!!! If I could afford it I would definitely help as a patreon but I can watch, smash the like button and I just subscribed. Thank you for blessing us with this content
When people talk about Joker and the Nuggets style, I think of Bird and the Celtics, Magic with the Lakers, MJ with the Bulls. Tough, competitors, off the charts ball IQ, made their teammates better, owned the court on or off ball, the threat was real.
Larry would have shot so many more threes and such a higher percentage in today's league.
Larry Bird would destroy people in todays NBA
I just wish more people would come out and tell their own stuff 🤣. I remember watching all them Great Games against the L.A. Faker's 😂. But they were Larry's Thorn in the Side. Between 2 Other Championship 🏆🏆
Acronym "SHIT" = "S"hip "H"igh "I"n "T"ransport. This acronym originated in old England back when "goods" were transported by sailing ships. Manure was a commodity transported by sailing ships and if the manure was allowed to get wet...it made a stinking mess...so they hung the bags of manure from the ceilings and walls to keep the manure dry. 😂
That shot at 4:38 over Kareem ffs.
Larry was great and that video was great also!
Back in the 70's there were levels of talking on the court: trash talking then smack talking & the more confrontational shit talking. Each level was totally different but it could escalate real fast between smack talking & shit talking.
It's a common what if question but what if Bird hadn't messed up his index finger of his shooting hand playing softball the summer before starting in the NBA? He played his entire career without quite the dexterity and flexibility he had in college due to his messed up finger. How much better would his scoring have been without that finger injury to overcome? His career was a joy to watch while it was happening and I didn't even really like watching much basketball at the time but I did try to catch the Celtics games when they were on in my area's TV market.
ty
That was a game 4 in the Finals 😂😂😂😂
Won't let me like your channel but I liked it lol
Bird Magic Jordan - the holy trinity of the basketball panthéon
It isn't trash talk if you do what you said you were going to do.
Man is there a nfl version of this? Great work
Bird crushed it!! Love it. Please dump the background music though. Really almost unwatchable at times.
