    holy crap. 190 hp turbocharged, AWD, AWS, 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and a manual transmission? wish they still made them like this. 6.5 to 60 is actually still pretty good by today's standards.

  • @wyattoutlaw2370

    90’s Japanese cars were THE most interesting produced cars imo.
    AWD , 4WS, intercooled turbos, 4 valves per cylinder, Dohc, efi , variable ride height & stiffness, variable valve timing.. the list of goodies just kept on getting better!
    ...Then one day it all just died away 🙁

      @TheRealSmithFamily Před 8 lety +9

      +Michael Aitchison Exactly what I was thinking! The only decent car they had they got rid of. I'm sure the SUV is a decent vehicle, but it doesn't stand out in a sea of SUV's. I wouldn't be surprised to see them leave the market which would be a shame.

      +Michael Atchison Wow, that thing is rare (and ugly) as hen's teeth as well. I've only seen them in magazines. I recall back in the day my dream cars were a 3000GT VR-4, Galant VR-4 & Dodge Stealth until I test drove a few used ones with 50k-60k on them. It did not take a rocket scientist to figure out these cars would not age well and would get expensive quick once they depreciated to my meager finances. The little old ladies who drove them to church and Aldis must have loved doing 5k rpm clutch drops as they were all loose as a 60 year old prostitute. I ended up with a 4cyl auto Accord that just happened to be sitting there, since I needed a ride home. 365k later it was problably the smartest move I ever made...but boring.

    • @skylinefever
      @skylinefever Před 8 lety +3

      +Michael Atchison The 1990s weren't that great either. Many Mitsubishi engines were prone to developing oil leaks at the valves at as little as 80,000 miles. The proper solution was to rebuild the cylinder head, and that is a long and expensive job.

    I had a '92 DSM for a few years, a car that was based on the Galant VR-4. I loved it to death and it was suprisingly reliable, mostly cause I didn't try to push 400+ hp from cheap bolt on parts. Kept it mostly stock and the engine hummed like nothing else, even after 28+ years of age that 4g63 would always fire up and run like a charm no matter what

AND man let me ya'll... THIS EVO ZERO held it's own!!! we did both 2nd and 3rd gear pulls and his RS barely walked away from my GVR4 on the top end of 4 gear going into 5th. SURPRISED us both. Oh yea, his RS was bone stock and my GVR4 had K&N drop in filter and full TBE, but still very impressive. I'm planning on a few other bolt-ons over the next year or so and tune with Haltech 1000 ECU. Saw this car in a Motor Trend Magazine in 1991 and convinced my parents to buy one one my Junior year in HS, Black metallic. As I recall they were limited production numbered cars... maybe 2000? I learned to drive a stick in that thing and thought it was a race car... It was fast. They traded it in after the engine through the timing belt around 30000 miles., repaired under warranty. I was in the service at that time but understand it was an interference fit engine and it made lots of metal. I am sure my less than light driving contributed to it is engine problems... was a great car!

      Many people buy the CHEAPEST thing they can. Back in the 70s 80s and 90s that was Japanese. Not cheap because of quality necessarily, but because of labor cost. Huyndai and Kia (same company) are Korean where its very cheap labor. Car companies are doing everything they can to block Chinese and Indian cars from American markets because they are extremely Cheap.

      Oh come on. I love it when people ask me to race... after their engine is finished being rebuilt. Back in the 90's almost every Galant or Diamante I ever saw had blue smoke coming out the tailpipe. GVR-4 was pretty quick for it's day 6.5 sec 0-60. What were Accords doing 9.0 - 11.0 sec?

    • @ftffighter

      @@pgtmr2713 Lol I have a 1991 Honda Accord LX Wagon with the "4-Speed" automatic with two separate overdrives(So technically, it was a 5-speed Auto... in 1991!). It even had a sport mode button which firmed the shifts up and changed the overdrive to a shorter overdrive for quicker acceleration. In 1991, the fastest Honda Accord you could buy was actually the wagon because of how much shorter the gearing is. Mine did 0-60 in 8.7 Seconds when I timed her. She has a CAI and resonator delete but that's all that was done. That F22A1 2.2L fuel injected 4-Cylinder was surprisingly peppy. The LX only made 125-130HP but the EX's made around 140-145HP. The quickest 0 to 60 time I saw for a factory stock 1991-1993 CB9 Accord Wagon was 8.6 Seconds which was impressive for the day. The same year Accord Coupes were doing 0-60 anywhere from 8.8 to 9.1 Seconds and the Sedans anywhere from 9 to 9.5 Seconds. The Wagons were special I guess.

    this is another car company that didn't CAPITALIZE off of a great car. this GALANT is better handling and more performance oriented than '16 Camry SE V6 and a '16 Accord Sport V6. MITSU didn't stay provocative, and that's y they don't have a true FLAGSHIP car anymore

      That car was a test mule handed out to companies like MotorWeek to flogg around test tracks. About 10 laps throwing it into corners like they did in the video and all 4 tires would be nearly bald !!!

      not many of the galant vr4's left in the US that's for sure. I have one but out of 3000 total I can't imagine many are left still on the road. Especially if many of them went out East and got claimed by the salted roads.
