I think Hailan would have made a terrifyingly effective Empress. She's incredibly good at navigating the Harem, not easily swayed, and she's both caring and ruthless, though not so much she becomes a bully.

I don't think that Yu prince ever loved her or even liked her. She was the one who had the crush and I think he was just nice to her. Maybe it's different in the novel. Just my opinion.
