I can respect his freedom and drive and disagree with the specifics of the lifestyle. Lots of people that we look upon as "great" kept horrible habits. They were still able to achieve great things. Lifestyle habits are tricky because even something like smoking cigarettes does have measurable improvements in some functions, but it is still overall a bad idea to smoke.

Make no mistake about it Big Ron did not destroy his body lifting during these years, yes the shearing loads and excessive compression from training so heavy while dieting down for shows took a toll... it was however the eager surgeons that cut on his body and added hardware like screws and rods again and again because of shit procedures that ruined his body... he was in a place that physiologically could have been salvaged through proper treatment modalities.
I seen a dude get ko’d by his friend helping him put those weight onesy on. His hand slipped and knocked the dude out cold. When buddy woke up he lifted his PR and the whole gym cheered for him.
