  • In this video I'm driving the epic Col de l'Iseran alpine pass in France, Europe. This video is just one in series of my Route des Grandes Alpes trip.
    Embarking on the legendary Route des Grandes Alpes motorcycle journey is an exhilarating adventure that leads riders through the breathtaking landscapes of the French Alps. The pinnacle of this epic route is the ascent to Col de l'Iseran, the highest paved pass in Europe. As motorcyclists carve their way through picturesque villages and winding mountain roads, the anticipation builds for the grand finale at 2,764 meters above sea level. Col de l'Iseran offers a dramatic panorama of snow-capped peaks and alpine meadows, creating a motorcycling experience that seamlessly blends adrenaline and awe. This iconic route is a testament to the thrill-seeking spirit of riders who crave both the thrill of the open road and the beauty of nature.

    Fantastic Ride.....wonderful bike ! Buty why do you rev it so high ? Doesnt you feel to have enough punch ? I would never rev up to 80km/h in the 2nd gear...or to 60 in 1st. For me thats utopic high..?

    • @helmtube
      @helmtube  Před 5 měsíci

      Well let me put this way. When I ride my BMW GS i almost never rev over 5 thousand rpm, the bike has all the power you need on lower revs. Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT on the other hand has all the power on higher revs. It's a typical four cylinder bike and you have to rev it to have the usable power. You can of course drive it on lower revs, but then it's comparable to 500cc bike with 50bhp. Driving it like that ... it would make more sense to really buy a 500cc and save some money :)

    A truly beautiful road! You bought the GT... Did you consider the Yamaha MT-10? I'm trying to decide which one to buy, as the side cases aren't important to me. Nice video, thanks

      Hi @888jackflash I was considering also Yamaha MT-10 and MT-09 Tracer. The decision to go with Suzuki was more personal than anything else. I had a Bandit 1250 years ago and I loved the bike. I thought this GSX-S 1000 GT would be maybe similar, but is actually not. It's a sports bike capable of touring. And the second was my decision maker: I was looking for a bike which I would be able to tour with, that means decent wind protection, panniers, good ergonomics and economy. The only downside for Yamaha MT-10 would probably be fuel economy, as I heard that being mentioned many times in Yamahas reviews. I like the looks of Yamaha MT-10 and the engine sound, it's a symphony :) Did you also consider Suzuki GSX-S 1000 (non GT version)? This is basically the same bike but without windscreen and panniers...

      Thanks. I actually still own a 2000 Bandit1200, modified with excellent suspension, larger pistons and a Corbin seat. I've had it across the US (twice) and done Trackdays with it. I also have an FJR1300 which is my current "full Tour" bike, so I want to replace the elderly B12 and don't need panniers... so maybe the MT-10 will be the way forward for me. I came into some small funds, so I prob can afford an "SP" model.@@helmtube

      @helmtube  Před 5 měsíci

      @@888jackflash Then would MT-10 probably be a better choice. GSX-S 1000 GT is kind a touring bike, so if you own already FJR1300 then go with MT-10. The SP edition is even a better choice. I would suggest you Suzuki if you would be looking for one bike to do it all.

    Great video mate! I also have a GT with sideboxes, now considering a top box as well and I am courious which one did you pick?

    • @helmtube
      @helmtube  Před 7 měsíci

      I've installed Hepco&Becked easy rack (top case mount - you can find a video of that on my channel) and mounted Shad SH44 top case to it. I had to drill few holes to the Hepco&Becker plate to fit Shard top case plate, but it was rather an easy task. There are many good top cases there, my decision was based on size (not to big not too small) and the shape of the top case. Since Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT look is a bit angular I was looking for a top case who's shape is not too rounded. I'm quite happy with it. I also ordered a motorbike matching blue colour and made top part of the top case partially blue, it looks almost like "original" :) Beside Hepco&Becker I know from my research (maybe outdated) that you also have Givi, Shad & Kappa top case racks available (I didn't like how they look on the bike thou) Cheers mate!

    Thanks for the lovely video! Do you use handlebar raisers for gsx1000gt? Do you feel this bike's riding position comfortable enough for long rides? All the best! Salut!

    • @helmtube
      @helmtube  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hi @husnupy7469 Yes, I did install Voigt handlebar risers 30 mm with offset 22 mm. For me personally was original position slightly too sporty (but really just a little bit). Saying that, you have to know that I'm used to BMW R1200GS which is my other motorbike and I find it very comfortable. So if you are coming from a sport bike and you are considering Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT you will probably find it supreme-comfortable :) I also installed a gel pad into my seat which improved the comfort a little bit, but once again, my but is used to comfy GS seat.
      I did few longer trips with Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT, from around 1000 to 3000 kilometers each and I can say that this bike is "touring friendly". BTW, if you are very into Suzukis K5 engine and you are considering GSX-S 1000 GT I just saw that new Suzuki GSX-S 1000 is coming out. It's a bit more advanced and more crossover (similar to BMW S1000XR) and probably a bit more expensive. Cheers!

      @@helmtube Thank you for your prompt answer, currently using a Versys, ordered this one but very afraid of the sitting position as a middle aged guy.
      Saw that GX Suzuki too, but don't know when it comes to market.
      As an adventure type rider I would be happy with risers like you, because i like making long voyages.
      Anyways thanks for your lovely videos and answers, we are looking forward your new rides, merci milles fois!

      I am an old guy - 68 - will install those risers this weekend, even though I don't hate the stock position. Love my new Suzuki, it scares me a little bit and makes me feel alive. Also, I installed EBC brake pads and they are the BOMB!

    • @helmtube
      @helmtube  Před 7 měsíci

      @@halvo265 Risers for me added just this tiny missing piece of comfort. How did pads change braking performance or behaviour? I know people say that brakes are not good on this Suzuki but I don't completely agree. They are sport-touring brakes, they are not as aggressive as sports bike brakes, but they have great stopping power. This is especially convenient when you have pillion with you (no helmets banging).

    Hello, what brake master cylinder did you put in front?

    • @helmtube
      @helmtube  Před 7 měsíci

      Brakes are all stock. What you see on the left handlebar side is chain oiler. It's "Cobra Nemo 2"-like oiler. I find brakes on this bike very decent and I have no intention to change or upgrade them. Did that answered your question? Cheers mate!

      @@hoihoihoi1951 I bought SP connect aluminium holder and SP connect phone case. What I like about it is that also when phone is not mounted to handlebars it still looks decent. I'm using 0.5m USB cable to charge my phone and I enjoy the navigation setup from the day 1. I can unfortunately not say the same for the Suzukis MySpin app, big disappointment for me ... :(

    • @helmtube
      @helmtube  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@bluepanther99 Calimoto I haven't tried on a tour, I know the app but can not really do a review of it. I'm using Google Maps (offline), Sygic - which I bought years ago, before they moved to susbscription pricing model (and I'm not moving to subscription) and Garmin BMW Navigator. So I could give a small review about Sygic: Almost very good app with one annoying issue: Sometimes it detours you for few kilometers to a village or somewhere, navigate you around a tree or a church and takes you back to the original road :D Google maps work just fine offline, but it doesn't offer you saving tour directions for example day by day. Garmin is an awesome device with very complicated-furstrating-old base camp app which is used for planning a route. Years ago I also had a TomTom and I remember having good time with it. Also tour planning software was awesome.
