    James Cameron has never been a fan of conspicuous audio panning and directional effects. Way back in the T2 days he talked about how he hates panning and prefers a less self-conscious, more ambient approach to his surround mixes. What’s happening with Avatar 2’s Atmos mix is in line with what he’s done for decades.

      They need to come out with a new bigger disc that can store 4K 3D HDR HFR, or 8K hdr or just regular 4k or 2k to fit a trilogy or something. I suggest they call it gold ray and not 8k bluray because then people will expect all the content to be 8k on it which is stupid.

      @KonohasYeIlowFlash Pƙed rokem

      @@davidhrzenjak As much as I like physical media, I think we’re approaching the handoff to digital. It doesn’t make sense to develop new disc technologies when there’s already so much storage capacity available for a digital release. Yes, digital does not surpass physical media’s quality, but that’s more of a studio choice and not a limitation of the format. Digital is the future-sorry there won’t be any gold ray.

    Put on a the UHD last night with a couple of buds, and I’m not gonna lie, the renders for most animals, like the giant whale chase scene, felt very off, like they weren’t completely done rendering, me and one other guy watched it in theaters, and he’s a pretty casual movie goer, and even he noticed something was off (with my tech friend and I, nerding out about it all lol), but yeah, de renders just felt off, like something that needed touch up in post, like they accidentally sent out the unfinished version of the movie. Could also be the compression but even so, it shouldn’t look that much worse right? (Also, two disc!! But hey, maybe the UHD successor will get it right, right?

    Hey Shane, great video. First, let me say I appreciate your channel and coverage of various 4K UHD Blu-ray releases and equipment. I've been an amateur home theater fan since the days of VHS. When DVD came along in 1996, I was a Manager for BLOCKBUSTER MUSIC. Part of my responsibilities was ordering for the store and all special orders, music, and video(VHS mostly) I had been reading up on DVD and how it was going probably replace VHS and it did when it finally took off and more studios, electronics manufacturers started manufacturing DVD players. Back then, they had an MSRP of $500-$600 dollars. My first DVD player was a PANASONIC. At the time, WARNER BROTHERS had the most releases around 10-15 titles. I told my STORE MANAGER that we should order what's available because I'm certain they'll sell. Sure enough, they did, now my store was located on the north side of Indianapolis, and lets just say people had money for early adaptors. Fast forward many years later DVD took off and then Blu-ray came out thanks to SONY and the PS3 helped sales big time. I thought that's it we will never see anything better than Blu-ray, and at the time, everything I read was showing wouldn't be sinking time and money into developing a new format. Get to 2015 and 4K UHD comes along and I was totally shocked. My question is why would a company like DISNEY want to put out something subpar on 4K UHD Blu-Ray Disc? Honestly physical media is not dying anytime soon in my opinion. Look how many studios are remastering catalog classic films. Films that if they don't preserve them they'll be lost forever. I feel with SONY and XBOX next-gen consoles, having options to choose either have a disc drive or not will help keep 4K UHD Blu-ray discs alive for some time. Plus, consumers have options with the 4K UHD Blu-Ray players out on the market. Even when physical media dies out it will remain a niche market for collectors and fans. Let me know what you think. Thanks again.

Intermissions used to be the perfect way to address the run-time of long films, but today movie houses expect you to sit for hours without a break, or miss part of the movie. It won't because KScape has to follow industry consumer standards to maintain compatibility with the gear that is produced. The audio is crappy because of Disney, not because of the Atmos format, which is capable of a lot better results. It takes QUALITY MIXERS, which Disney does not seem to hire.

    Great review. I'm probably not as big a fan as 4K as many of other people are, but I can acknowledge when it's done right. I was pretty curious to see how Avatar 1 & 2 would appear on 4K being as how their almost entirely digital. I'm glad to hear it's great, though, and that this disc is worth picking up. It's a little disappointing to hear it's not quite as clear as the streaming version. But still, it might be worth getting it on 4K Blu-ray just so you can straight up own the film. Nice hearing your thoughts on this and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the 3D Blu-ray version when it gets released (which no doubt will be my definitive way to watch it).
