Liking, subscribing, sharing, and engaging with the content are the main ways to support a channel. And when those things aren't happening you start to take it personal, even though it's not. You ask yourself what you're doing wrong. Or why people aren't supporting your content. "Am I not worth supporting?" Stuff like that constantly floating around your head and torturing you. I'm trying to detach and let go of the goal so I'm not devastated if it doesn't work out. Don't give up, but let go of the result. That's where I'm at right now
I'm 5'2". Height is pretty much my only insecurity. Yet I still feel incredibly attractive, strong and masculine. The best thing you can do is be confident and be yourself. Being comfortable in your own skin is incredibly attractive so don't worry about height. Instead focus on self love. Treat your body right. Find the styles that fit you and that you like.
Love that Charlie says, "I can find a million other ways to roast you", instead of, "you probably have other nice qualities about you instead of your height."
My theory is that Charlie gathered every Yu-Gi-Oh card to manifest the millennium puzzle into existence to gain the extra foot from the pharaoh possessing his body.
You’re totally right about the consistency point. I’ve been looking at content creators over the years and it seems like most of the top people on any platform or genre were making consistent content for atleast 1-5 years before “making it big”.
I’m 5’ 6” in my thirties and honestly never think about my height. No one jokes about it either. The only negative thing about being short is that it affects dating, but even that doesn’t really matter once you find someone.
I think another good piece of advice for new creators is to work with what you have instead of buying expensive equipment right away. My first "viral" video was filmed, edited, and uploaded all on an old Metro PCS phone, and I kept using that method until it earned me enough funds to buy a computer and better cameras. I know a number of people that refuse to start making videos just because they don't have fancy video equipment. Of course it's fine to have a quality standard for yourself, but not if it's gonna prevent you from getting the ball rolling. You gotta start somewhere.
"Do what you can, with what you've got, where you are." Famously quoted from Teddy Roosevelt's autobiography, attributed to William Meek “Squire Bill” Widener. Got that quote from a Calvin & Hobbes strip decades ago and it's still good advice.
I'm 6'2, my mom is 5'5 and the whole house is based around her height so doing chores is quite literally a pain in my back, can you give me your height ?
Yeah, he's said that a bunch of times. I remember when I first found Charlie I checked his old vid and it linked to a recommended that explained all about Ray William Johnson shouting him out. I used to watch Ray William Johnson back when he was the biggest youtuber of all time, and he was like Phillip DeFranco basically where he just said a bunch of stuff for no real reason. It's pretty nuts that it led to current content in such a way. What a rabbit hole.
I love short men, especially ones who are comfortable in their body. They are much more chill (and attractive) than the short guys who think it makes them some kind of unlovable ogre
Love the way Charlie’s just so real, he doesn’t bullshit you by saying ‘if you work hard you’ll blow up as a content creator’ and yea that can happen but it’s very rare
The "short man rage" you mentioned is almost exclusively a product of "the sexual marketplace". Guys just need to realize there are other places to find dates. They need to stop thinking that the only place they'll ever find "love" or "a mate" or whatever is the place with the big banner that says "no short dudes" right next to the other big banner that says "no fat chicks".
I like how he says this will be the hardest truth we will ever encounter, but is actually helping everyone and doing the kindness of telling the truth. Hooray for internet jesus!
His advice about being a creator is very precise. Its a really slow growth process and the platforms are saturated. Telling from my personal experience, you gotta be patient. If it weren't for my patrons, my channel would absolutely fade into obscurity. Gotta figure out how to buy luck ;)
@@DyslexicMitochondria Bro you got some interesting stuff. Like some of the stuff I saw in your channel I actually ask myself from time to time so I'm gonna binge some vidoes!
The RWJ video is what led me to you in the first place, I remember way back being so hyped up when you responded to me on snapchat when you were in the hospital and I was wishing you well! That was years ago and I've enjoyed casually watching your content ever since.
I've learned to deal with it, the first time I asked a girl out when I was in 8th grade, she said "(my name) your such an amazing and caring person, and I would love to be with your, if you were taller." I'm 5'3" (right now as a Sophomore) and she is about 5'9" now :/
I'm 5'4" male, and I didn't even realize I was supposed be insecure about my height until I started watching Charlie. A year later and I still don't care.
I don't think that's it. When Charlie said getting lucky he meant it. I knew a youtuber that's been doing gaming videos of all sorts for 7 years I checked back on his channel and it's now his professional email name and subscriber count disabled. The sad truth is he never made it past 300-400 subscribers however that's not to say he didn't have fun doing his videos but since a couple years ago has been inactive. Moral of the story listen to Charlie
The first advice was literally speaking to me, everything he said impersonated me exactly, I share the same height with Charlie and I’ve been trying to change it for years I am turning 20 years old next month and I am panicking, what he said in this video made me kinda rethink it I am still gonna try my best tho I don’t feel like I have the right amount of self love to accept this
Girls love guys who are short and also really confident in their own body. I'm not much taller than you and the more I think about it the more I kinda like what height I'm at right now. Short guys are cute and have something that tall guys unfortunately don't. Don't let dumb things like Tinder or Tik Tok mess with your head, thigs aren't as bad as they seem for short guys the second you stop caring. We got this bro
Leg-lengthening surgery is pretty wild, but there's acquired gigantism: there's been quite a few cases of pituitary tumors (making it produce human growth hormone in excess) that caused gigantism in adulthood (and until the tumor goes into recession or is removed). Oh, and I love his more serious videos! He's really got a way with words!
The problem with acquired gigantism is that your body cannot quite cope with it as well as it could in its younger years, mainly due to the cartrilage and tendons if I recall correctly. It can cause more trouble than it is worth.
@@Vedlom hey, my doctor prescribed me some steroids as injection I am not quite sure what that is but I did some reading it said it could cause gigantism (he gave them for me to make me stronger that’s what he said)

He made it so the jokes never bothered me anymore and I could laugh with them. Still great friends with that guy, he's pretty mucj the brother I never had.
That advice for creators is solid, anyone I know who started this expecting anything has already given up. I'd also add to not compare yourself to others, especially if that comparison is a massive creator with years of experience and probably also a team behind them. Just do it for fun, make content and try to create value for the small audience that you'll naturally develop, and it'll be one of the most rewarding things you can do regardless of success!
Facts. It took over a year before one of my youtube videos got over 10k. Even then, my channel has still only gotten 300 subs. There’s no way an inexperienced content creator can experience rapid growth like Dream or Beluga
In my opinion its really sad watching people compare thier channel/streams to top creators and become jealous even though they do have genuine supporters who dont care about that
This video was pretty good, I learned things, I'm a 5'5" teen at first I was afraid since my younger sister is growing taller while my growth is slowing down.but now, that shit doesn't matter, thanks big bro Charlie!
The thing that's awesome about charlie's progression is that he is actually one the few true true OGs of youtube that is still relevant and actually only got extremely successful later in his "career", steadily growing for over 10 years. Setting aside his first random silent gameplay videos, he started making videos consistently in like 2009. I can't think of many with that kind of slow & steady growth over such a long stretch of time. Just think of the "big youtubers" that lost relevancy in the meantime. Some of which arrived at the scene after him. Charlie's longevity and growth is remarkable. I'm glad I checked out "Shotgun is the new sniper" back in the day.
@@MattDawgGaming oh for sure, that's why I said "one of the few". However do keep in mind that Markiplier arrived a couple of years later and blew up much faster. Charlie was more gradual. Same with Jack, charlie was already at it for almost 3 years (5 if we count the early early shit) when he started. Their growth was also much steeper.
I remember waaaay back in the day i used to post videos on my country's equivalent of youtube , back when even youtube was only starting to grow. I started it for fun , got big relative to the platform, and stopped when i felt like it. There was literally no prize , just the fun of being famous in a small community and knowing a bunch of other kids. Still feels surreal that at one point in my life i had fans. I got the experience of being an early eceleb with none of the embarrassment because no one will ever find those videos.
Consistency and having fun is key. I’m in that 4 viewer boat right now and my streams are a hot mess of technical difficulties and mistakes. But I’m slowly tweaking and trying to make it entertaining for myself and other people. Don’t do it for the money. Do it because you love the content you are making and love the interaction.

I remember doing streaming for fun with about 20 regular viewers that would talk in the chat. Got raided once and had a little over a hundred people and it was honestly overwhelming having 100 people all typing at once. You have to have a certain type of mindset to be able to stream for thousands of people and not go a little crazy after a while.
Sometimes they say effort always are rewarding but youtube says otherwise I think it needs more than just luck because if you're lucky enough to be on the youtube algorithm once if your content isn't conistently good then the viewers leaves you either way so i think it needs a stroke of luck, a spoon of talent, and a pinch of effort to be a successful streamer
I think it definitely goes beyond "luck" for you Charlie. You're very witty and your sense of humor is incomparable to anyone else's. You have something that not a lot of people have, and it deserves recognition.
I've heard people say "Just be yourself" on CZcams. But, what if your authentic personality doesn't get any viewership or attention? Should you be someone else? Probably not unless you want to sell out. Everyone says there's a specific audience for you and your brand. But what if there isn't?
Letting go of height and the weightlifter aesthetic was such a relief to me. You find new reasons to hate yourself but at least they’re things you can change or are worth changing.
This is a great take! Whenever I feel like I want to have some fun, I load up twitch and just play games. I don’t care if a single viewer tunes in because at the end of the day I enjoy commentating even if it’s to myself!
So Charlie was an unconscious success. He was just having fun and didn’t know how he blew up. He was prolly doing everything exactly perfect and aligned perfectly while being unconscious. He probably hit that mindset where he didn’t care if he was successful or not he was just lost in the fun of it. That’s what I broke down from this video. Basically have no expectations and do it for the fun of it that’s the trick Charlie taught us.
That's basically the advice I hear a lot of big Tubers/Streamers give. That and just be yourself, treat it like a hobby so that way you won't hate yourself doing it.
I think that’s the key to a lot of things in life, but especially creative pursuits. if you’re making music, you’re never gonna be successful if you’re trying to replicate the biggest stars and break it down to a science. you can’t make songs thinking “what kind of music is most popular right now? what chord progressions are the catchiest?” you have to make what you enjoy, make the kind of music you would want to hear, be yourself. it’ll be more authentic, and you’ll gain an audience of people who are looking for the same thing that you were looking for.
Its not luck if you pay attention to what you put out and the feedback you receive from it. I dont think Charlie has a good understanding of how youtube functions if he thinks you can put out amazing content with amazing thumbnails and not find success. If it was amazing content the analytics would reflect that.
@@polygon3538 not true if you start with a search algorithm. You only need to put the right metadata in and you can get alot of impressions. If u think youtube is luck based you don’t understand how it functions.

This video boils down to: 1) If you're short then just accept it. 2) Having high expectations didn't help anyone ever.
“What does it take to become a successful streamer?”
CZcams Jesus: “A Miracle.”
MAP RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS! CHILDREN CAN CONSENT!
Sometimes they say effort always are rewarding but youtube says otherwise
I think it needs more than just luck because if you're lucky enough to be on the youtube algorithm once if your content isn't conistently good then the viewers leaves you either way so i think it needs a stroke of luck, a spoon of talent, and a pinch of effort to be a successful streamer
Consistency, luck, and quality you put into your content. These are the key elements I got from this video.
I’ve been short my whole life and I have really needed it
im 5‘2 and this was the advice i needed. thanks man
Letting go of height and the weightlifter aesthetic was such a relief to me. You find new reasons to hate yourself but at least they’re things you can change or are worth changing.
Charlie: don't worry about your height, you have bigger problems than that. Like your personality.
Thank you for saying it just Luck
And have fun. That takes the pressure off
This is a great take!
