The Tefal has a fixed temp of 338F...not 400 as mentioned in the video...and the Philips was cooked at 350F. Therefore the Tefal chips were a little undercooked in 15 minutes. It just needed a few more minutes of cooking time. Knowing the cooking Temp of the Tefal, my chips turn out perfectly...crispy on the outside and perfect inside...it's all a matter of time...and these ones in the video were not given the correct cooking time for the Tefal unit.

If the Tefal chips are undercooked, then why didn't you put them in for a few minutes longer? Instead of evaluating how good the product was you instead evaluated how accurate the recipe instructions were and that is not useful to those deciding on which product is best.

I like my T-Ful, the paddle for stir fried vegetables is the best . I cooked cauliflower ad mushrooms . The paddle can be removed if you wish when you cook the fish and meat or put the paddle back in the middle of the cooking depends on food. The cooking time for the fries should be more than 15min on T-ful. The comparison between these 2 units unfairly. The lid, paddle, air filter are easily be removed and easy to wash or toss in dishwasher. I love my T-Ful after being search and read all the reviews, I decided T-Ful.

I have two air fryers, a Phillips XL and a Farberware. They both cook close to the same amount of time, the Phillips XL slightly faster. I do like the basket design better on the Phillips XL, it slides out like a kitchen drawer and then you lift out only the basket, I also purchased the grill pan basket which is good for steaks ect. As for the cookbook manuals, I usually cook higher temperature than they say. The Phillips XL only goes to 390 and that is the temp I use on most foods. For example, cut up floured chicken wings, 20-22 minutes at 390 in the Phillips XL flipping at at 18 minutes. Now that's for my desired doneness, other may prefer more or less.

I have found the easiest way to clean the Phillips is to absorb the excess oil on tissue, fill both pieces with hot soapy water while I eat. Then use a dish brush to scrub both pieces. The brush is especially efficient cleaning the mesh. The thing about the Phillips that I don’t like is the white smoke that comes out the back when doing pieces of chicken etc. I trim all fat possible and drain excess fat during cooking. Anyone else have this problem? I have found that by putting pieces of bread in the bottom of the fryer helps this problem. Otherwise this is a very good machine that I use often.

This left me rather confused, because my unit does amazing batches of fries in 20-25 minutes. 15 isn't nearly enough for this unit simply because of the way it cooks, I could tell immediately when I saw that this wasn't going to work out and be an unfair result

@@acelilumelody4445 I saw the Philips fry have browning where the TFal looked uncooked. I guess that's why Dude said it was under cooked and the Philips was crispy on the outside and "soft" inside. It doesn't matter to me, I decided to go with the GoWISE Air Fryer Oven from Amazon. It is greatly superior to both in many ways and is small at 11.5 x 12 x 14 inches. It cooks fries evenly in 15 minutes without needing to be shaken at all, much less "every few minutes". Much more cooking space, can cook with food on 2 separate racks, a rotisserie skewer feature for chicken, a dehydrate setting for jerky/fruit/veggies, a fish/steak cage and a rotisserie basket for popcorn, etc. I spray Pam on the rack before cooking so all I have to do for cleanup is put the rack in the dishwasher and wipe down the drip tray. This video helped me decided that both the Philips and TFal designs were limited and lacked useful features.

I have both, and they are used differently. When cooking large quantity of fries, the T-Fal is better as the fries are moved around by the paddle, set it and forget it. But the Phillips I have to open it up multiple times and shake to ensure even cooking, or cook the fries in two separate batches. Your comparison of just one sweet potato in each is what most families will use. The Philips is better for doing veggies

I bought (Amazon) a perforated tray that goes above the Atifry's original tray. It bypasses the paddle. It moves around, but without the paddle. It's good for breaded meat, fish or other delicate food. That expands the use of T-Fal.

Phillips has higher temps. T-Fal needs some additional minutes. A fair comparison is rather with ActiFry Original not ActiFry 2-in-1 which has additional functions and obviously is more difficult to wash. You need to compare similar products, with similar functions in the same price range. T-Fal ActiFry 2-in-1 is more expensive and is aimed for family cooking. The simple ActiFry is a better contender and is in the same price range, functionality and capacity.

So I had a power airfryer, after about six months the nut that retains the fan came off and it made a horrible noise and died . Replaced it with an actifryer . I know the power airfryer is a different brand to the Phillips , however I have to say the actfryer is a lot more useful and more flexible and user friendly , you can do chicken wings in both , but you try bananas , spray oil, brown Sugar, and four minutes .. served with ice cream or a stir fry . Both can be done on the actifryer , so before you buy think carefully what you want to do with the machine .
The browning ? I would not get hung up on it , actifry browns just as well however it cooks properly before browning

Great review. My only comment would be that if u cook the sweet potato fries in the actifry for a bit longer they will come out the same! And for those 5(?) extra minutes u also get a few more functions with the actifry which isnt discussed in thei review. The difference between the 2 appliances is that 1 is a 'static' fan assisted grill (that u cant see as its cooking) and the other is a 'constantly moving' fan assisted fryer which means u can also cook veg stirfrys, curries, bolognaise and anything that u can cook on a stove top...ASWELL as its function as a fan assisted fryer. So anything that u can cook under a grill u can cook in an airfryer and anything u can cook on a stove AND under a grill u can cook in the actifry. I hope this helps someone make the distinction between the 2 appliances 💖

Maybe "veg stirfrys, curries, bolognaise and anything that u can cook on a stove top..." isn't within the scope of their requirements. Maybe adjustable temperature control, quietness of operation, physical size and ease of cleanup are their top requirements. Everyone's requirements for a product aren't the same.

I have a Philips XXL air fryer. The guide says to cook beef at 400, but when I do it smokes like crazy. I've tried putting a little water in the bottom, but it just makes everything take longer to cook and I worry about the water affecting the heating element. So, I decided that lowering the temperature to 325 accomplishes the same objective and I don't have to worry about water damaging the heating element. Using the $50 grill plate, it takes almost 2 mins longer to cook a ribeye steak, and it seems to cook more evenly. I still get the sear that I'm looking for because of the grill plate and the center of the steak looks perfect. If you're going to be cooking steaks in your Philips air fryer, the grill plate accessory is a must have.

Good informative video, not a criticism but I think you should maybe have spread the fries a bit more widely in the T-fal as they seemed to be more packed together and that's just one of the reasons that may have led to them looking and tasting under cooked, slight differences in cooking temperature and time can also affect things too. Ps, I don't work for T-fal.

Regarding your review the tefal food seems healthier than the burnt out phillips one. If the tefal is undercooked you just don't say "the machine is not as good", all you got to do is set the machine for an extra 5 minutes of cooking. Because of the paddle in the tefal the food will cook more evenly as your video shows. To me the Tefal is better.

This Christmas I was given an Instant Pot Vortex air fryer and think it may be comparable to your Philips...the basket and liner feel good and substantial for all that they are just coated aluminum and like you I will hand wash it. So far I've been loving it as a great addition to the quick cooking lineup. The Instant Pot pressure cooker is a go to for braising and the one-pot pasta meals and now with the air fryer we can enjoy some breaded things that I would otherwise never make because of trying to avoid all the cooking oil. This was a great review and surprisingly, I haven't tried making any fries yet haha. Thank you!

Happy that have decided to stick with your Philips AF. You both made a fair and objective assessment after conducting your tests. Just wondering what the wattage is for the T-fal AF, since I don't own one? I do know that the Philips AF has 1400 watts of power along with their "tornado-like" fan up above and the turbostar patented design at the bottom of the basket, which perhaps gives you a better result. IDK. I think that you made a great choice here, as I do love my Philips. As I said in one of my previous comments that the Philips brand, in my opinion, is the "Rolls Royce" of air fryers. BTW, I also got mine for $200 at Williams Sonoma during last year's black Friday sale. Love your other videos and the delightful foods that you prepare for us here. They certainly look amazing! Keep up the great work! Thanks guys.

But all air fryers are different. I don't really want the TFal air fryer, which I think the clean up may be a time consuming chore. so I really watch and like your video's, especially the instapot ones, Keep up the good work and tks again for your time, which is valuable for all of us, take care Nicky in cold snowy Michigan

    • @plgdees1
      @plgdees1 Před 5 lety +8

      Totally correct .
I have a Tefal and have had a Philips which I found inferior in cooking quality to the Tefal.
You did not give the tefal a chance as you cooked with the Philips at a temp. of 350 deg.
the tefal was at a lower temp. as it is set at about 330 deg.
Had you cooked the chips about 5 mins longer than the Pfilips they would have been perfect, as I have just done and proven (10 minutes ago)
Very biased towards the Philips is your demo.
      I wonder why ??
      Bit suspect, I think.
      No incentives from Philips ??
I think there may have been as the way you did it was totally favouring the Philips.

Ok..so i recently got the tfal. Heres the thing. I dont love it either as mich as i thought i would..BUT, heres what i do like. You absolutely can cook without the paddle in it. Ypu just need to flip your food occasionally. I take the paddle out to cook perogies, or chicken schnitzel or pretty much anything else that breaks up with the paddle in it. For what i like cooking in the tfal so far is thqt it makes amazing fried rice, i also love cooking meatballs in it (my kids love meatballs), also cut up coated chicken to then use for orange chicken.
The phillips looks ok too, but i dont think you can make fried rice in it and i also dont like that you cant watch your food cook.

Abetter comparison would be the superwave vs nuwave. It boils down to glass vs plastic and halogen vs traditional heating element. The halogen oven heats at a higher temp but the sheath heating element lasts longer. They both use the same 3 technolgies to cook food. They are so similar it seems to be a copyright infringement. Great job testing ! One thing with air fryers is that it is a lot of trial and error. When I was doing my research I found the Phillips was typically the best and one of the most expensive. Even though it was the best, it was out of my comfort zone for price range. I like the basket style fryers typically better except for the delonghi brand.
