    Electrical tape or zip tie will take care of the safety switch.

    I bought one of these but was really disappointed in it unfortunately. It worked flawlessly for about 3 weeks. However, one day I was using it and suddenly it stopped. I realized that the vents they made in the motor housing were too big. This allowed grass, dirt, etc. to get in the motor and caused it to burn up. I’ll give it in another try down the road, but for now it’s not for me. I’d highly recommend putting some kind of screen over that housing. Something like a large tea making bag would probably work well. They usually have a draw string and should be small enough openings to keep things out while letting the motor breathe.

    Pro tip. Put the handle below the folding part. Then it is perfectly balanced.

    That's the nice thing about the dewalt design. By putting the motor on the head you can incorporate folding with less engineering effort.

  • @arkon6084
    @arkon6084 Před 4 lety +7

    It looks like debris (including grass) will eventually get into the motor chamber via those air vents on the head. This is not good.

    I'm a huge fan of battery powered tools and machines, and I have transfered to battery machines in my small landscaping business. I use Makita hedge trimmer, pole trimmer and pole saw. But there are still 2 machines that I think still can't be replaced with a battery powered ones. Those are lawnmower and weed wacker. Although I've heard great stuff about the Milwaukee trimmer mentioned here, and Makita recently came out with an awesome pro level battery lawnmower, I still choose my Husqvarna 525 trimmer and Honda HRX 537 lawnmower. They are still more powerful and versatile than battery operated and they are even cheaper.
    With an incredible advance in battery tools, maybe in 5-10 years gas machines will be a thing of the past, but for now they are ireplecable in certain applications.

    Is it stronger than the old model? I just sold my Dewalt 20V trimmer yesterday. Bought the M18 Fuel quik lok trimmer and pole saw. Extremely pleased with the power and run time of it. Haven't even needed to run it on high speed. Found the low speed on the older model Dewalt just wasn't enough.

      Oh yea ..much more powerful...I did this video last week brought out with me on Thurs. The handle is in very uncomfortable spot and you really can't move up or down to your liking..for 5-10 mins of use not a big deal ..but if guna use all day ..hurts back and forearm after awhile

  • @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023

    I did a couple videos about mine a couple weeks ago and dewalt really screwed this model up with that hinge location. Can't move the handle to a comfortable ergonomic position so it's front heavy and totally unbalanced. Hard to get a good cut and extra strain on my back. Also had to replace the head with an Echo head to get rid of the hand numbing vibration. This is the first dewalt tool that I am sorry that I bought and can not recommend.

      @unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Před 4 lety +2

      When you are fighting the unbalance and can't get a smooth cut it does matter even for a minute. Dewalt must have moved engineering offshore where they don't care about ergonomics or usability. Their customer support also sucks if you get a problem one.

    • @JJsGA
      @JJsGA Před 3 lety +1

      Definitely! I have this same trimmer. My wife and I run an apartment complex. On the 2 story side of the property we have a ditch. Being that today was the first cut of the year that ditch was pretty grown in. The trimmer on the 5ah. Battery ripped right thru the growth. I'd say covering an area that's 10 feet across by 75-80 feet long and a few feet deep. Fully charged 5ah still had 3 bars after clearing it in 20 mins

    Do you prefer 0.080 or 0.095 string?

  • @hymen1847
    @hymen1847 Před 3 lety

    When I try to edge with this the string seems to retract back inside a bit and not keep a long string going. My previous Ryobi 18v did the same thing, so I use a Black and Decker electric edger. Works perfect for me as a trimmer though. In my application, I don't even need high mode. Just curious why I always have this problem. It works as an edger for about 5ft before it started acting weird. I know it says not to use it as an edger, but I assumed it was a disclaimer so you didn't sling stuff up. But he seems to not be having problems with it. Also I haven't loaded the string in, it is the pre loaded string that came with it new.
