You need following to absorb Zinc into the tissues at a cellular level ::
    1. Active B6 - P5P
    2. Vit B12
    3. Magnesium
    4. Copper ! (intracellular Copper else you'd develop Zinc intolerance)
    5. Vit C
    6. Bioflavonoids such as Quercetin / Rutin / PAC's
Zinc synergies well with certain Amino acids such as Taurine, Methionine, Lysine, Argenine. Hence, Zinc is better consumed with B vitamins & aminos or still better a protein source.
Most natural dietry sources of zinc also have Copper.
You must have Zinc & copper at seperate times and strive to maintain a 7.5 : 1 ratio. Imbalance in Zinc, copper ratio will create multiple health issues.
If you want Zinc, copper, aminos, B vitamins & all Zinc synergistic cofactors try carnivore diet !

Excellent lesson! I'm so grateful for docs like you. As per simptoms of deficiency, I do have losse of smell and taste for over 25 years, my hair is very strong I have way too much hair, nails very strong, as per sleep I can benefit from better sleep, I dont have white spots on the nails, I do get colds very easily. Now my teen daughter: doesn't have any issues with taste and smells, shes losing lots of hair, very brittle hair and soft nails, issues with growth, issues with sleep, white spots on nails, and get every cold and flu around, almost every month.I find her ferritin levels are low, and the doctors dont want to prescribe iron injection. Injection would be the quickest way to get it up faster

I’m currently taking fluconazole for Candida/yeast overgrowth to wich I requested as symptoms got unbearable. My doctors are ignorant to this but prescribed them anyway. The document study you share at 25 mins will possibly solve there ignorance and may well test. Had Dutch test privately in past. But could you please share a link for that study for me to look further and share with doctors? I remember taking like 150mg of zinc a day for maybe 2 weeks and i remember my racing mind slowing down lile time slowed down and i had enough to focus without my mind being in a hurry to flip to something else it was nice not to be in a hurry and nice to have time to notice things and read bumper stickers and wonder what the person in the car i met was going, i have had ADD all my life and my brain is in a hurry and it never gives me time to explore an idea before switching on to something else and it was a cool experince but something happened very fast, my busy mind went so quiet i lost care and i went into a deep depression because my busy mind that kept me interested in so many things at once was now gone and i was left with a i dont care about nothing attitude just existing. It got so bad i thought i would rather be scattered brained and too busy to notice detail then to feel this way so ivstopped and started taking multivitamins hoping to replace the copper and other minerals zinc might of lowered it was not long and my busy mind was giving me a 100 ideas of things to do, before i could complete one i was already doing another but it was better than not caring to do anything. I should of just backed off the zinc but ibwas so depressed i just wanted out of that horrible feeling. My son has ADHD i remember giving him zinc when he was head start and how the teachers said he was not as hyper that day but different.

Zinc is one of the most common deficiencies in ADHD, along with magnesium, iron, and polyunsaturated fatty acids (think omega 3, side note, zinc helps process these). I also found zinc significantly helped ADHD (and indirectly through helping sleep), it was also helped by choline, grass fed fatty red meat (high in zinc, iron, fatty acids and amino acids we use to produce neurotransmitters), cardio, fermented foods (like sauerkraut), going paleo, getting sunlight, setting timers etc. What else helped you?

I am 88 and 40 years ago started taking multi vitamins..
In my mid eighties started extras.
Your site is the best I have seen about supplements.
had white spots on nails as an adolescent, also needed magnesium for leg cramps
Wish I had seen this info decades ago.
wondering if wearing copper bracelets help in copper absorption.
Now I see what I was lacking for decades.
It is never too late to learn things that help us. THANK YOU.

I enjoy your informative presentations, however, there always is background noise like a woman talking in the background which is distracting.

I read that sucralose blocks zinc and iodine. I use sugar free creamer with sucralose in it. So of course I looked for Doc Osbornes zinc video.

Seems to be the opposite: zinc blocks the taste of sweeteners. pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Sucralose#section=Toxicity
/The study/...investigated the ability of zinc sulfate (5, 25, 50 mM) to inhibit the sweetness of 12 chemically diverse sweeteners, which were all intensity matched to 300 mM sucrose [800 mM glucose, 475 mM fructose, 3.25 mM aspartame, 3.5 mM saccharin, 12 mM sodium cyclamate, 14 mM acesulfame-K, 1.04 M sorbitol, 0.629 mM sucralose, 0.375 mM neohesperidin dihydrochalcone (NHDC), 1.5 mM stevioside and 0.0163 mM thaumatin]. Zinc sulfate inhibited the sweetness of most compounds in a concentration dependent manner, peaking with 80% inhibition by 50 mM. Curiously, zinc sulfate never inhibited the sweetness of Na-cyclamate. This suggests that Na-cyclamate may access a sweet taste mechanism that is different from the other sweeteners, which were inhibited uniformly (except thaumatin) at every concentration of zinc sulfate.
Keast RS, et al; Chem Senses 29 (6): 513-21 (2004)
Anyhow, you shouldn't worry too much. 'The bulk of sucralose ingested is not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract (gut) and is directly excreted in the feces, while 11-27% of it is absorbed.' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucralose.
Even if it affects your uptake of the smallish amount of zinc in your coffee, it will do very little to other sources of zinc in your comestibles.

Don't forget about pyrrole disorder. According to Dr William Walsh in his book Nutrient Power 15 percent of all depressives in his database have pyrrole disorder which causes too much HPL waste product in the blood that bonds to aldehides, namely b6 and zinc.
I have severe pyrrole disorder and have to take 125mg of zinc daily to ward off deficiency, as well as 400mg of b6.
Pyrrole disorder is a major major cause of zinc deficiency and way more common than people believe.

Wow. Thanks for mentioning this. I have never heard of pyrrole disorder. Unbelievable that doctors and the psych dept get away with what they do. It's negligence.
