Music video by John Mellencamp, Me'Shell Ndegeocello performing Wild Night. (C) 1994 John Mellencamp #JohnMellencamp #WildNight #Vevo #Rock #VevoOfficial
I grew up with Mr. Mellancamp. I truly respect him as an artist. He's never sold out. He really is himself. Making music that he likes first. If he isn't proud of it, it wouldn't be out there
So John Mellencamp does another Van Morrison cover - fantastically. Totally agree her bass is great. I used to think he did this video because of the ignorant charges of racism after Little Pink Houses, but it was more J.C. doing a documentary of Americana. Anyway, Morrison songs highlighted the bass and this cover is one of my all time favorite videos. I think the black/white synergy probably is one reason why, but it just rocks.
Amazing talent and chemistry! Feeling the groove and thinking of an incredible “wild night” and it’s calling-my heart is filled with joy! ❤️ Thanks for the big smile 🙏😊 Rock on!!! 🤘
I always loved this song by Van Morrison , but I have to admit this is the best cover or should I say the only remake of a song I like better than the original. And it does look as if they are truly enjoying the hell out of making it.
I love Me'Shell N love her voice this is the best ever I think John should do more duets with her at least they could both sing unlike the crappy ones out today
Me Shell Ndegeocello you are the best bass player on Wild Night on music video off the album of Dance Naked album and I love you woman and you are beautiful.
I like this better than any other John Mellencamp recording I've heard so far: it sounds as if he finally picked the perfect song for his style of performance.
0:33 “All those wild nights breeze through your mind…” - for some reason this has peak freedom and young times energy. 1:20 “And the people walking by just stare in wild wonder…yeah… 1:26 “And inside, the jukebox roars, just like thundah” Love every one of her lines and deliveries.
THIS WAS THE FIRST HIT SONG IN SEVERAL YEARS FOR JOHN MELLENCAMP AND HIS BIGGEST HIT SONG IN THE '90S - "WILD NIGHT"! :-) THIS SONG ALSO FEATURED SINGER MESHELL NDEGEOCELLO AS WELL! :-) AT THAT TIME, I KNEW HER AS "MICHELLE NDEGE OCELLO", SO I GUESS I WAS MISSPELLING HER NAME ALL THIS TIME! :-) OK, ANYWAYS, AFTER A LONG HIATUS, JOHN MELLENCAMP, WHO ENJOYED PHENOMENAL POP MUSIC CHART SUCCESS THROUGHOUT THE 1980S CAME BACK WITH THIS HIT SONG, WHICH HIT #1 FOR SEVERAL WEEKS IN JULY 1994 AND WAS THE FIRST OF SEVERAL HIT SONGS THAT HE ENJOYED THROUGHOUT THE MID-90S! :-) IT WAS SURPRISINGLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF THE SUMMER OF 1994 AND WAS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE SONGS OF THAT SUMMER AND YEAR! :-) THERE'S A LOT OF GOOD THINGS GOING ON IN THIS SONG! :-) OK, I LOVE JOHN'S SINGING - HE STILL HAD THOSE GOOD VOCALS! :-) I LIKED MESHELL'S SINGING TOO AND I THOUGHT IT WAS PERFECT FOR THIS SONG TOO! :-) THERE'S DEFINITELY A LOT OF INTERESTING AND UNIQUE INSTRUMENTATION IN THIS SONG! :-) LOVED THE JUXTAPOSITION OF IT ALL! :-) LOTS OF BEAUTIFUL BASS AND GUITAR ON THIS SONG! :-) ALSO LOVED ALL THE OTHER MUSICAL FLOURISHES THROUGHOUT THIS SONG TOO! :-) THIS WAS DEFINITELY A VERY REFRESHING SONG TO LISTEN TO DURING THE HOT SUMMER DAYS IN THE SUMMER OF 1994 TOO! :-) THE MUSIC VIDEO IS WHAT I LOVE BEST ABOUT THIS SONG THOUGH! :-) LIKE THE WAY THE LADY TURNS THE RADIO ON AND GETS DRESSED - VERY COOL AND SEXY! :-) LIKE THE ATTIC WHERE JOHN AND MESHELL ALSO SANG! :-) MY FAVORITE PARTS OF THE MUSIC VIDEO THOUGH WERE WHERE THE LADY (WHO IS A CAB DRIVER) CHECKS OUT ALL HER VARIETY OF PASSENGERS IN HER CAB DRIVING THE CITY STREETS AT NIGHT! :-) LOVE ALL THE SCENES OF THE CITY AT NIGHT - SO BEAUTIFUL! :-) LIKE THE CAB DRIVER - SHE SEEMS SO COOL! :-) THIS WAS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE VERY BEST SONGS OF THE SUMMER OF 1994 AND CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BETTER SONGS OF THE YEAR! :-) I'M LUCKY I WAS OLD ENOUGH TO EXPERIENCE A PIECE OF THE MUSIC OF JOHN MELLENCAMP AND DEFINITELY WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM COME BACK AND RELEASE NEW MUSIC FOR A NEW GENERATION OF MUSIC LOVERS! :-) #JOHNMELLENCAMP #MESHELLNDEGEOCELLO #WILDNIGHT
This video is so much better than the one with the taxi driver! Pure music. That's all. I didn't even know the taxi driver version existed until I just accidentally clicked on it. THIS was the video I remember.
This song has rhythm. Excellent singing by both, John Mellencamp & Me'Shell Ndegeocello. From this and on It's the more mature era of Mellencamp's carrier, ...in my opinion at least...
Summer of 94. Rangers won the Stanley Cup. Good times with my friends and my girlfriend at the time. This song was playing all the time. One of the best summers of my life
they do a great job of this van morrison tune! i love Me'Shell-she can sing and is funky funky on that bass. thank you soso much for posting this song and video!!!!!!
I love Me'Shell Ndegeocello she plays a funky bass, sings with a melodic smokey voice and can move with grace and sexy sass. This is Mellencamp's best tune, because she is in it.
I like this so much better than videos I see today. Some of them look like they were made in the garage, only that was not the intent. This is just good, clean music, no frills.
...As you brush your shoes and stand before your mirror And you comb your hair and grab your coat and hat And you walk the streets trying to remember All those wild nights breeze through your mind....... carry on...
Dean your right ab I UT that being a Van Morrison song. Morrison to me is not only one of the best rockin rollers of all time. Morrison writes some of the best classics ever!
I saw this excellent performance before John got all about himself. I saw him again after he was all about himself, such a let down. I wouldn't go again if it was free.
Few covers are better than the original; this is one of them.
I prefer watching them jam opposed to a model driving around in a cab but thats just me;) Me'Shell is just gorgeous.
Me too!
8 year old comment. Beautiful in it's self.
Hell yes! TOTALLY HOT
Totally agree, this jam with Ndegeocello bass is far above the commercial video
@zero it's frickin all about the BASS!!! I love
it, this song still kicks ass!🤘
I grew up with Mr. Mellancamp. I truly respect him as an artist. He's never sold out. He really is himself. Making music that he likes first. If he isn't proud of it, it wouldn't be out there
Not to mention the brilliant meshell ndgeocello
Me'Shell Ndegeocello is a monster talented Bassist. I know when we covered this version NO ONE was in a chair! Everyone stood up!
And kinda hot too…for a woman
Me”She’ll Ndegeocello you took this song to another level… you’re amazing.. just love you!

@@rebekah518 I 100% Agree !!!
still don't beat the original imo.
Van the man Morrison still deserves credit for penning and composing this fabulous gem of a track...
Great cover though, maybe the greatest.
Ja ja. Both renditions of this song are gold. Salute to Morrison and mellencamp
These voices belong together. Extraordinary, will never tire of this version.
gostei do seu video amigos
The song of the year in 2008 was called lollipop,, huh... Lol
I agree. Her voice was the perfect counterpoint to his on this tune.
As Heard On Mix 107.5 KWMX-FM Radio Denver In May 1995-March 1996
Ndegeocello is probably the most talented impossible to pronounce singer-rapper-bassist out there.
Have you heard "Outside your Door" the live at the "North Sea Jazz Festival" Version .
Wow
In-day-gay-oh-chello
Her name isn't impossible to pronounce. You are just lazy, unmotivated, and probably racist.
If you don't like the music,do not listen. Why destroy another persons joy by being hateful.
Right because this song is so great
Misery loves company, of course.
A belated happy----are you ready----70th birthday, Mr. Mellencamp.
They don't music like this anymore.I'm so dang grateful I grew up in the 80s :) 2 thumbs up!
Van Morrison recorded this in '72
always loved this version..makes me smile
"There's another version?", LOL
it's pure joy to see them singing n jammin together
Meshell's bass playing is incredible! Reminds me a little of James Jameson and how his lines propelled songs.

Bassist has so much soul
The tight bass part in this version has that bump then the nice little flutter.
Van had the slick horn arrangement.
John Mellencamp! A highly underrated fellow! Cheers from Sweden! God bless! And hot damn (!) give us more!
me'shell is the queen of bass no question. Awesome!!!!!
Their voices are amazing together.
