  • The Victron GX LTE 4G Cellular Modem is an accessory for GX-devices. such as my Victron Cerbo GX, It is a cellular modem, supporting 2G, 3G and 4G technologies. It provides a mobile internet for the system and connection to Victron Remote Management portal.
    The Victron GX LTE 4G Cellular Modem includes a built-in GPS receiver. When the optional GPS antenna is installed, which I have included in my system, It can be tracked as well as Geo-fenced on the VRM Portal.

    I'm using a Victron system in a remoter part of Scotland, completely offline at the moment but found this really interesting. Love your ideas and your energy mate, keep it up!

    I work in tech so camp to get away from tech! I’ll wait until you cover the Portal to see if there’s value in this for me. Comprehensive video Phil.

      Thanks. For me it's ideal. It's also a safety feature. particularly with an agm as old as this mounted in my vehicle.

    Hi Phil, Great informative video thank you for sharing. This is Ethan from Perth, Western Australia.
    I have watched your other video about Victron Globallink 520 - firstly I noticed you did not use or attached antenna with the Globallink 520 unit?
    May this be the main cause or issue with your GSM mobile data reception issues?
    I am an outdoor and 4WD touring enthusiast like yourself - currently working on a rebuild of Prado 150 new Victron setup - I come from an computer systems and electronic engineering background.
    Based on the information available from your watching your two videos - in my opinion the data reception issues and differences between Victron GX LTE and Victron Globallink 520 is simply got to do with antenna used - nothing to do with the unit itself.
    My recommendation if you really serious about data and mobile reception while touring / camping etc. I highly recommend you invest in a mobile booster called Cel Fi.
    Noting Cel Fi brand is the only brand that is legal use in Australia. Typically boost mobile reception from 1 bar to 5 bars - they are very expensive units ($700-$1300) but well worth the investment.
    Cel Fi boosters can be fixed mounted in your car, 4WD, boat or caravan or portable unit even.

      Hi Ethan. Yes I tried a 7db external antenna on the GlobalLink 520. It did not help much at all.
      I compared the Cerbo GX against the GlobalLink 520 and by far the Cerbo gx is a much better and more reliable unit.
      The Cerbo GX with the Victron 4G LTE picks up signal better than my IPhone 12 Max. And I have not had to use my 7db external antenna on the Cerbo GX thus far.
      I mate of mine is right into signals and communications I had him look into it and he said it’s something to do with the bandwidths the units pick up. Even though the GlobalLink 520 picks up 4G, it don’t pick up the full spectrum of the 4G. His trying a GlobalLink out himself in Brisbane and having similar issues I had for the reasons given above.
      He had to invest in a quality expensive external antenna to get it to upload data on a more regular basis. Whereby with the Cerbo GX and the Victron 4G LTE. That combo just works. Works where my iPhone don’t. It also picks up both 3G and 4g

      I returned the GlobalLink and Victron refunded me the money. I got signal with the 4G LTE with just the short stubby aerial where I could not with the GlobalLink and a 7db external aerial.
      There is a vast difference between the two.

    Nice toys. Did you buy sim card ? And how much data does GX LTE 4G use on 4g ?

    • @PhilsCampingReviews
      @PhilsCampingReviews  Před 2 lety

      Between 400 to 800mb per month. Mainly around 450mb per month.
      All depends how you have the Cerbo GX setup. Mine is set to upload data every minute.

    • @PhilsCampingReviews
      @PhilsCampingReviews  Před 2 lety

      Yes I got a pre paid sim card from Telstra here in Australia. I used my telstra points and got the sim card and one year data for free.

      If you set your Cerbo Gx to connect to your wifi while at home, you will use a lot less data.
      I dont use the cerbo gx wifi, i found it unreliable.

      @@PhilsCampingReviews I don't know how yours is using so much data. According to victron themselves in this video at 4:27 they say it uses 25MB month logging intervals of every minute. czcams.com/video/645QrB7bmvY/video.html

    Hi, we are able to connect only the original victron antenna gps/lte or we are able to go with a different brand?

    • @PhilsCampingReviews
      @PhilsCampingReviews  Před 2 lety +1

      I think only the Victron is compatible. I don’t believe you can use any other brands.
      I know, it’s a little expensive, but it’s worth it. This picks up a better signal than my iPhone 12 Pro Max

      @@PhilsCampingReviews Maybe this info is usefull for someone else, i spoke with a Victron Engineer and he says::
      "If it's a 4G antenna and the right connector, it should work then"
