- Probike Build / Dream Build of a Cervelo R5 for the current Tour de France Champion Jonas Vingegaard from Pro Team Jumbo Visma. We had the honor to be there when the team mechanic assembled a brand new Cervelo R5 for the sympathy Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard. Jonas Vingegaard used the R5 in many stages in the 2022 Tour de France and was, of course, the 1st choice in all mountain stages. The R5 impresses with light weight and high comfort and also the lightweight frame benefits from many aerodynamic features of the S5.
After a second place at the Tour de France in 2021, 25-year-old Jonas Vingegaard won the 2022 Tour de France after thrilling duels with Tadej Pogacar. We are curious about the upcoming Tour and whether we will see Jonas Vingegaard on this bike. If you want to know exactly what a Tour de France winner rides, then watch the video, have fun.

- Sport
This is a magnum opus for any bike mechanic. Truly a beautiful piece of art and not just a bicycle.
Bike is another cheaply fabricated and Chinese sweatshop made cookie cutter frameset.😀
The tools, the parts, the workshop. Heaven. Dreams.
Man, things have surely changed since my active days as an amateur racer in the 80s in Europe. Back then we were proud to have a frame made of Reynolds tubing and the bike weighing about 11kg or 12kg. Campangolo was big back then, if you could afford it. Shimano was starting, but was not accepted by all. Building this bike is like building a F1 Car. Everything is clean, fits perfectly and is pleasant to look at. A real moralbooster!
yeah, they have come a long way! 🤩
I recently spent the fall and winter fixing up and rebuilding used kids bikes in a warehouse in Detroit using whatever tools we had, so this video was cathartic and very pleasing to watch end to end.
that must have been a really humbling experience when you compare it to that workshop but really really cool 👍 way to go! 🤩
It's always amazing to see professional bike mechanic at work. Thank you for sharing this documentary for us to understand how a pro cycling team working together. 🙏❤
amazing craftmanship and assembly ! Big UPs for the mechanics of Jumbo Visma.
I think the word craftsmanship doesn't quite apply here.
What a pleasant build video for our Danish champ!
SO privileged to see this total pro at work - REAL CRAFTsmanship . . . amazing assembly not to mention the high tech beauty of the bike and its equipment and the precision tools used to do the beyond awesome job :-) And for us mere mortals, even WE can take a page out of this book when it comes to doing an amazing TAPE job on the handlebars :-)
It was cool seeing the old toe straps being utilized in the build process. Using one to hold the fork into the steerer is definitely a pro move and an idea I'm stealing! Also, using an ink pin to mark the levers is another takeaway too.
The setup jig was next level!!!
yeah, they have some really cool moves 😃 a old cut up tube is a really good option as well 👍
I´m in tears right now. What a love story!
thanks 🤗
more of this mechanic, hes such a pro
A beautiful bike, and what a pleasure to see Alfredo Binda's legacy lives on.
I love it how they use clean towels and everything is so precise and shiny. Truly ASMR video for me.
Precise and shiny ...ehm... and then riders have accidents . I´d like to see repairing bike after falling down.
Absolutely slammed bars!!!
Mesmerizingly brilliant!
Una belleza!! Un espectáculo!!!
This is so beautiful to watch.
I definitely love the machine to set im the break pads before they are even riden. Such great idea and detail
yeah, thats so cool 🤩
@@Chris-jc3lr you have to bed in the rim brake pads too
Oh, that's what that was!
Absolutely hypnotic ....wonderful!
thanks 🤗
Estupendo Ensamblaje.
Sin palabras exelente 10 de 10 ❤
una obra de arte
Great value. Great looks.
That was the most beautiful bar tape job I've ever watched
Les mecs ( mécanos) rôdent les freins ! Ça c'est du professionnalisme....
Le vélo a vraiment changé de dimensions
Very high level, really impressive! Tanks!
Wow, nice technic installing that bottle cage.
I really like watching these builds….
thanks 🤗
Magnifique travail
Awesome & Thanks :)
Beleza pura mano!!! 👍
Encore une très belle vidéo. Celles des teams sont parfaites, a poursuivre. Chez Movistar ect ….
Very satisfying to watch 🙂🚴👍
thanks 🤗
Delicious!!!
Wow....😍😍😍
Thank you! Cheers!
Bonito video, bonita bici, buen trabajo.
Excellent to see a properly lubed bike build. It astounds me how many bike builds on CZcams don't use the correct assembly paste and grease on ALL parts.
Super awesome bike 👍
Gorgeous! Specially with the SRAM Red. So good! 👌
very satisfying video. thank you :D
🤗
now give it to me
Where's money?
you cannot use it, because there is no Cassette mounted :-) at least it was Not weighted!!
Pretty much my dream bike.
genial..
I just got my new Cervelo Caledonia 5 with Sram Red E Tap, best shifting ever!
54/41 - I can only dream of running such a crankset combo.
Yes because it's not available for sale. Sram sells just that nonsense chainrings to be paired with 10 teeth sprocket
@@BICIeCOMPUTERconGabriele they are available in AM as upgrade only with powermeter option. Is required also the dedicated FD that is included in the aftermarket kit. 52/39, 54/41 etc
@@GabryCazza interesting!
I have already been here in a world full of passionate commitment and only positive emotions, faith in success that does not come easily, it is almost always burdened with work at the highest speed and attention to detail sometimes borders on madness for those for whom the final result is a matter of internal to be or not to be but this is only the case in fairy tales about super light machines that are created by man and serve this purpose as quickly as possible, covering the route from here to eternity.
OK number one 👍
Nice bike❤
Wow
Y el motor escondido? Jajajaja es broma! Saludos genial video
c'est mieux qu'un ASMR
Very prime!
thanks!!! 🤗
Hope there will be Bora-Hansgrohe or Soudal Quickstep team bike video in the future
0:21 OMG ! That amount of integrated FSA 5D handlebars... and those are the new 3K models.
I don´t know whats more insane: the money invested or the incredible rare stock they grab hold of.
there were a lot more still packed away.... 🤩😲
@@roadbikechannel I´m speechless.
Reckon it’s rare stock for the rest of us for this exact reason 😂
@@roadbikechannel does this bar require a proprietary spacer/shim or does the Cervelo head tube shim match up to the bar?
It ships with a few propriety spacers, not essential, but standard spacers don't match up properly or look as nice....
😮 First Bike, that works without cassette ! --
mesmerizing... I'd like one in a 58 please.
there might be a few standing around 😅
Are the floaters in the brake fluid a Pro extra ;-) We use Velcro straps where you have used toe straps, they are quicker and don't run the risk of the clamps scratching the paintwork. Do you balance the wheels, on the workstand that rear was shaking the frame and looked like it needed it.
cool bike i hope someday i get rb too.;(
Weight weenies, your gonna love this.
oh yeah 🤩👍
How do you tension the screw inside the sram levers that holds onto the handlebar? Shouldnt this be very susceptible to damage because of the bar being carbon?
Im overal a bit suprised by the lack of safety regulations regarding carbon dust...
Beautiful Build, may I know what is the Gramin mount in the R5 used?
El precio 🚴🚴que bici una belleza
I want such a bike.😢😢
Videazo!!!
What is a good setup for a light bike for someone heavy like me?
It's so enjoyable, i really want to work there, what should i do?
magic !!!
Setup with right lever for rear brake, left lever for front brake. I wonder if the pros get to choose the other way around, if that's their preference?
I love the bike build but find irony in the build process.
As someone that has worked in oil refineries for more than a few years, I find it strange that someone would handle lubricants on a regular basis without gloves yet doing so on a single occasion at work would draw the ire of HR. I guess we don't see the common danger...
That reminds me of the Tour of California about a decade ago. Some guys in the Quickstep team were using naptha to "clean" tubular tyre glue when changing tyres. As a Brit that moved to Commiefornia decades ago, I told them that naptha was illegal here. They joked and asked if a beer would guarantee my silence. As much as I love beer I just had to walk away...
Really nice build & video!
Are they really cutting / filing the carbon without a mask & water and or at least vacuuming the dust though? Seems a bit risky to me, also considering he´s not working alone there.
I never saw anyone wearing a mask or cutting with a suction system at any team we've been so far.
I've also always heard that carbon dust may heavily damage eyes it also triggered me 😂
Never seen it in these videos, but you are certainly right. Masks and directly vacuuming all dust away should be mandatory.
Additionally some of the greases should also not be touched with bare skin.
Beautiful build, no seat post clamp cover ?
He forgot that one for the build 😬 It's not the most crucial part and easy to overlook 😅 the frames and parts are not together in a box and the mechanic has to get every single part from the storage area for every build.
@@roadbikechannel thanks, I thought it was a pro setup thing for quick adjustments :)
Awesome and beautiful. Please what is the bottom bracket press fit tool brand and model ? Thanks in advance
Ohhh i just find it. Abbey bike tools
yeah, they make amazing tools!!
Please more Cervélo builds
two more coming up! 🤩
@@roadbikechannel awesome, can't wait 😍
Has anyone ever dedicated a stage win to the mechanics / crew? If not - they should
Definitely agreed! This mechanic did everything perfectly and is very skilled. He deserves it!
Funny that, with all that specialist measuring hardware to get the bike set up exactly to the rider’s preferences, the mechanic still aligns the handlebars to the front wheel by eye.. Great video though, much appreciated.
thanks!!! 🤗
Good video! What is the purpose of the machine you use at the end of the video with the wheels?
it's for breaking in the disc brakes
Sram❤️
👍
Does the stem/handlebar of the (more adjutable) s5 fit on the
r5?... could you tell what brand of work stand was used....?
the S5 handlebar is directly mounted to the fork whereas the R5 has a traditional steerer. so... no! 😬
the stand is from feedback 👍
CERVÉLO ❤❤❤
What’s the reason for wrapping the handlebar clockwise on the left and counter clockwise on the right? I got it taught just the other way around and did so for years. Is there a reason to it?
when your holding it on the drops your wrist tend to twist outwards, with this wrap your tightening it further and it won't come loose. For the pro riders it probably doesn't make that much difference when you consider the intervals the bars get new tape anyway 😅
It really depends where you're holding your bars the most, for a regular sprint finish you might consider switching 😃
@@roadbikechannel interesting I just rewatched an older park tool video and he advices to wrap it with your wrist motion for not straining the tape I’d guess. But good to know that you can also wrap it that way around and I gonna give it a go when the next tape is needed. Thanks for responds and explanation ✌️
@@roadbikechannel Yeah. This is the first time I saw a mechanic wrap the bars the way I think they should wrap for those very reasons. Even the electrical tape is wrapped the right way since fingers are pulling on the bars and the tape isnt going to get pulled loose.
What is he mounting at 00:11:25 is that some kind of a chain catcher?
build the new bianchi oltre rc !
What should i major to get a job like yours?
I know weight isn't that important but it could be a 6.8kg bike with dura ace
Debatable but probably sub 7
But shimano sucks😂
And a 10 kg bike gets you fitter
They cant choose their components due to partnerships
@@tviile3015 Agree!
is it Grischa at 5:21 ? Grüße aus Hannover🤙🏼😁
Gut erkannt! Schöne Grüße aus Bayern! 😃
10:40 I don't know if it's Hambini standard or not?..
I preferred the S5 with Dura Ace, still weird to see it equipped with SRAM
And this R5 would weighted under 7Kg with DA too.
Wires no more
Sram sucks
I believe Jonas preferred Campy, if he had his way. But thats the life of a pro rider. Ride what ur given.
he's very lucky to have is bike build by peter sagan
Any idea what bike measurement Jonas runs? Such as saddle height, reach, drop, setback etc?
sorry, we didn't really have the time too pay any attention on the exact measurements since they are only good for him anyway.
seat looked like 73. 3 or so.... he's running a short stem, 54 cm frame, you can figure out a lot just by a couple measurements and riders height
@@stevestewart-sturges2159 I just checked 72.5 it seems to be, if you stop the video at 20:26.
@@laminarthos8211 He's just a little fella....
@@stevestewart-sturges2159 a little fella with a big appetite for mountains
I need a link and can I buy the same accessories as you?
@@roadbikechannel Habe ich mir schon fast gedacht. Danke.
What are the transparent stickers for? Just protection?
Protecting the paint from the chain.
I assume it’s probably also to be able to resell them later without oil on the paint
Why are they using dt 240 instead of dt 180?
Now that is a beautiful bike. Cervelo R5 with SRAM gruppo and Enve(I think but may be wrong) wheels. That is the business. Jonas can keep the speedplay pedals though.
Those are Reserve wheels, Cervelo’s in-house brand
I wanna see an s5
just be patient 😉 two more are coming.... 🤩
No need for a quick release after a flat, they just give you another bike! (23:05)
Or they use a power drill 🙈
@@roadbikechannel I did not know that 🙂
The rear wheel is almost twice as heavy as the frame, is that because of the disc brakes? There must be lighter wheels out there.
Sponsor...
8:58 even pro mechanics know that chain be dropping every 10 shifts lol
yeah, clonking along with 50k on the cobbles might do that 😅
and it's not really that bad if your honest 😉
