I've had birds for 30 years and have never heard about sprouting their spray millet! I'll have to try it!
Your house at 4:30 sounds like youâre in the middle of the rainforest, I love it! Perks of having a big flock!
I never even thought of sprouting a spray. Iâm 100% doing this today!
Donât have birds, never had. Trying to learn how to sprout millet and I came across your video. What a treat⊠you are beautiful, what you do is wonderful, and your birds are lovely. This is just a beautiful video⊠made me feel happy. Thank youđđ

My wife and I have tea or coffee everyday at a huge city park while we're doing our morning chores. We feed the birds wild bird seed that includes millet, milo and black oil sunflower seeds. I think we enjoy watching the birds eat their treat as much as they like eating it. So, I think I'm going to start sprouting the seeds to give it a better nutritional value. I hope the little guys like it more and it improves heir health !!!
This is a wonderful video; I never knew that a dry millet stick could be sprouted. Seeing your birds in this video going right after it is wonderful. Originally my budgies would only eat seeds, then I saw your video on chop and they started doing better with vegetables. Then you did a video on sproutings with mung beans, peas, lentils, etc. My birds got better with sproutings also, but I must admit that a lot would wind up being tossed around and dropped on the floor; I would then let them resort to seeds. You made this sprouting with a millet stick look easy. Now I know I can do it and I'm confident that my birds will eat it because it will be attached to the stick where they will peck and pull at it.
Thank you for the treats đ
Those new sprouts make me itch like witnessing pestilence.
Thank you for the lovely video! The intro was so charming! Definitely going to sprout some millet now! I love your channel!

I liked it.. seems yummy
I needed this! Actually, my budgie needed me to hear this! Poor guy is tired of sprouted lentils and quinoa.
I'm gonna do this and plant it.
Hi I discover this Chanel today it was very good đ I saw the video of how to have our birds warm and the Idea of the heater in the cage was amazing I will take one if I write something bad is because I am Spanish đȘ
That is awesome Donna, i never knew you could do that and its nice and easy to do too.i want to send this video to my friend who has all small birds and little budgies / cockatiels canaries and and Finches.I am wondering if my Timneh will eat them . I love how take care of your birdies.Bye for now .Be safe take careâ€ïž.
Like it, thanks for the video.
Thank you for this
My pleasure!
Yunmmy is comming to My dudlesđđâ€ïž
I never thought of doing that with Millet....Guess I know what I will be doing today ;). I did purchase some millet from Bakers Creek last year and grew some millet for my birdies :). I was afraid it was going to be eaten by the wild birds before I had a chance to harvest but luckily they didn't seem to care...Thanks for the video :)
Itâs weird how wild birds donât go crazy for millet like caged birds do. I wonder why? I hung a sprig of millet up near a bird feeder and the house finches and sparrows totally ignored it. But they go crazy for black oil sunflower seeds. Whereas my birds (budgie and parrotlet) go absolutely bonkers for millet like itâs their last meal lol
Thanks for the Great idea! Iâm going to try it! I canât get my birds to eat any fruit. Only lettuce and spinach.
I grow carrot tops, budgies like them
I have my millet spray soaking already! I hope my birds will enjoy it as much as dry millet. I canât get them to eat anything green except peas.
I grow millet in my greenhouse year round for my flock of 8 and I sprout some as well
Thats my next project, I want to get a green house and grow food for my family and pets.
@@Loveofpets it's so rewarding!!!!!
Wow
Its me again! :D

Also Happy 2021!
Greetings,
My name is Chris I have a pair of lovebirds and recently they have layed eggs, I am a huge fan of versele laga products so I brought muta vita, calcium, verti vita as well. I was wondering should I still continue giving them verti vita or just omni vita and Calci-Lux? I want to make sure the birds are in best condition. I appreciate for your quick reply. Regards. Chris
Hi Donna can you make a video please about how you trained your wild birds to go back to there cages and also is it recommended to take out canaryâs and finches and lovebirds together outside there cage?
Hi, here is a video that I made a while ago about how I get my birds in their cages. czcams.com/video/sENmEcL3S-Y/video.html
I will make a new video soon to update it.
It depends on yoir Lovebird. If you have several or a female they can be nasty to other birds. I have one male Lovebird and he is fine with my other birds.
Lovebirds can be more aggressive if you have two or more.
Thank you so much for replying back Dona, I will watch it thank you !
Thank you for great demo how to âŠ. Mine look almost as pretty as yours. Question: can I give my fabulous four parakeets sprouts every day? My pieces are mostly 4 inches long.
Hi, yes in my opinion it can be fed everyday
How do you store sprouted millet and how long will it last
Very cool, Donna. I've heard millet can be popped like popcorn. Have you tried that? Thank you.
I never heard of this. I may try it.
Thankyou for this video. How do you store this after sprouting?
Hi, I keep it on my kitchen counter. I give it to the birds and take away once they are no longer eating it. I rinse it off and put on a kitchen towel and serve next day
Do you have to thrown the uneaten away the same day or can it be saved?
I want to do this for my birds ... but they probably wonât eat it. Iâll still try
It gives me the heebie jeebies a little bit đ© but if the birds will eat it. Do the birds get freaked out by it also?
Edit - I see that some of them love it. The Java finches are so cute!
How to prevent growing fungus or bacteria?
where on Earth do you find millet that looks that beautiful?
I buy the golden spray millet from Amazon
Hi!! I have a 4 month old lovebird for a week now, he/she is not tame, i tried to put a millet in her cage but he/she just take a bite and ignored lol, how can i tame him/her?? Tnx in advance
Wow all the comment say Iâve never seen this before and I have to try this now but Iâm the same đ
Hi there. Once it has sprouted how long can they last before they go bad?
Hi. It will keep on growing once sprouted. Keep rinsing it. I find it goes bad after a few weeks. You will see either mold or it will wilt. To be safe use it for a week.
Sprout a half a millet spray and give it to your birds once sprouted. It shouldn't last too long if they eat it right away.
Are you saying you keep in colander over pot during sprout time? How do you store it?
Hi, yes I keep it in the colander while it's sprouting. I rinse it 2 or 3 times a day. I keep it in the colander until I feed it to my birds.
I'm missing something: after soaking it for the first time (12 hours) and then draining, where do you keep it? In the jar? On a rack?
Bro I asked the same thing idk what to do
Hi! I tried sprouting mine and today is the fourth day and it was going very well and I started to be able to see sprouts, but then I saw mold growing on the millet in multiple places. How do I keep the millet from molding?
Hi, make sure when you rinse it that it is on a strainer and not sitting in water as that can make them grow mold. Also you can rinse it with vinegar and water. Rinse in cold water. Rinse, shake off water and put in strainer, shake strainer so that no water collects.
Fill a jar with cold water and add some white vinegar and put millet in and spin jar to clean the millet. Don't spin or shake to hard or millet may come loose.
You can separate the seeds and then sprinkle them on top of 1/4â of soil that youâve placed inside of some small yogurt containers, 8 oz. Ball Canning Jars etc. and then use a spray bottle to moisten the seeds and soil and then cover them with some sort of lid and place them in a dark place like inside a cupboard, drawer etc. to allow the seeds to sprout and then when theyâre a couple of inches tall, remove them and place them near a window in indirect light. They will turn very green and grow a few inches tall. And then give them to your birds. âŠâŠâŠ You can do the same with Wheat Berries (seeds) to make wheatgrass. Soak the wheat seeds overnight though instead of just spraying them.
I sprinkled Millet Seeds densely in a large pot filled with soil outside and the Millet is already 3 ft. tall and already has many sprays that are 3â - 4â long. You can grow your own!
Can I just soak it and leave it in a mason jar? Like when sprouting seeds
It needs to be soaked once overnight and then rinsed 1 to 3 times a day to kept it from drying out.
Do you keep them in the refrigerator and water everyday or out of fridge
Hi, I keep them out of the fridge
Hi! Have you actually tried growing millet from the sprays? If so, did it work? Millet is getting so expensive to buy, and I've even had issues where the local stores didn't have any in stock for a few weeks! One of my birds is a millet addict, so this didn't go well for him (or me for that matter).
If you haven't tried growing millet from a spray, do you know if there's some special kind of millet seeds you have to get to grow millet? That seems like a dumb question, but I don't know if millet seeds from a spray have been treated in some way to prevent people from growing their own sprays. I just want to start growing some ASAP, since I know it will take months for it to produce new sprays.
Anyway, this is a great video. My birds are super picky and may not eat sprouts, but I'm going to try it. đđđ
Hi, I haven't tried it yet but was planning to try it this spring. Yes you can grow the spray millet.
@@Loveofpets Awesome! I just sprouted my first seeds. I'm going to see how far I can take them (hopefully to produce their own sprays). đđđ
Hi there! I was wondering after you soak the millet and take it out do you keep wetting it? Mine seems to dry very quickly once I have it out laying out and I am running it back under water. Itâs been two days and I do t see any growth at all. I think Iâm doing it wrong. Many people said this is very hard to do and none of them were able to manage. You on the other hand made a bunch. HELP ME PLEASE lol đ
Hi, you have to wet it 2 or 3 times a day like I mentioned in the video or it will dry out and not grow. It usually starts to grow after 4 days.
Hope this helps đ
@@Loveofpets Thatâs what I started doing and itâs sprouting!!!! Iâm so excited. Thank you so much. I love your videos and all your birds and the dogs are beautiful!!! Have a great week ahead. Thank you again.
Do you rinse with chlorinated water or filtered?
Hi, I rinse with my tap water, it has a small amount of chlorine. My birds and myself drink it everyday
So I see the 5th and do you continue every night to soak it overnight?
Hi. I soak it for one night and rinse 2 or 3 times a day to keep it moist
Can you plant these into a new plant?
yes you can plant it and it will grow and produce more millet
I have a question.. what time do u put your birds to sleep on daylight savings?
Hi, I will put my birds to bed at the new time.
If I place these in dirt will they grow into a plant?
Hi. Yes they will grow into a plant
You should plant it outside and grow your own millet seed!
How do you introduce this to birds
I cut off a small piece and hung it near a perch in their cage abd they started to eat it. They preferred to eat it in the cage instead of out of the cage. I found that they were afraid of the large piece so its best to give a small piece at first.
How do you keep the millet from drying out during night time when you are sleeping
Hi, I rinse it before bed and first thing in the morning. It shouldn't dry out unless it's very hot in your house. You could put it on a wet cloth or wet paper towel.
@@Loveofpets Thanks
With so many birds, most likely your sprouted millet sprays were all consumed in a day? If you had any left, how long would these sprouted millet spray continue to sprout and be fresh?
I got my birds a cat forager toy for Christmas and thought putting millet spray in the forager would get them to play and use it. Rainbow has never seen and never had any millet spray and he is 3.25 years old. My Mango is 9 1/3 years old and had it a few times many many years ago. Surprisingly, Mango doesnât remember the millet spray so both were deathly afraid of it. I did a video on this a couple of weeks ago and after trying for awhile, they both still donât care for it. Strange isnât it. So when you mentioned that your budgies were afraid of it and finally were the last ones to approach the sprouted millet, I can understand why considering both my budgies have absolutely no interest in their millet spray.
Hi, there was sprouted millet left over. I rinse them and put it in the strainer and give it back the next day and repeat until its all gone.
Once my budgies saw the other birds eating it, they came over and ate it. I put a small piece in their cage near a perch and they ate the whole thing. When they are out of the cage they are so busy playing and flying that food is the last thing they want but at the end of the day they go into their cage and eat. Now I will continue to put it in their cage as they preferred to eat it this way. One of them bathed in it, lol. I wished I could of got it on camera.
8:56 i have to pause the video to see if its a mushroom or not, actually grains are the most nutritious when they are uniripe, if you happen to grow the plants pick the green one for your bird.Birds can't eat grass so the greens are wasted
My birds love eating the grass.
I've never seen millet that long. Where do you get that from? Have you ever tried growing your own millet from a sprout for your birds?
I got it from a bird store in bulk, the pieces are very long. I never tried growing from a sprout before but may try this year
Love of Pets--if you see this, where do you find that healthy looking, fat millett? I keep buying it and it is dry and crumbly. đ
Wouldnât it be easier to cut the millet in half?
You could cut up the Millet into smaller pieces. I find it easier to cut it up once it's sprouted
How do I like a video twice?
Have you tried eating it yourself?
So, why do you sprout them, why don't you leave them just like they are???
Its more nutritional for them. They eat sprouted seeds in the wild and barely eat dry seed. Fresh foods are always better for our birds.
@@Loveofpets Tho millet spray isn't available here, but i germinate sprout for my birds, i use green mung bean, lentils.. they love'em.
Thats great that you sprout. My birds love sprouted foods. Here is a video that I made on sprouting

@@Loveofpets Thank you. I watch your videos. I love them, specially one video i would love to mention" damage blood feather remove" it help me 1000% Thank you so much.
Your welcome. Glad my blood feather video helped.
My parents and I can only all agree on having birbs as pets so far. 1 or 2 of the same species, depending on if that species is a solitary one like a canary. I hope we can foster them from first from a resuce like Calgary Humane Society. This time we will have a complete care book with pictures and print pages from websites and find ways to save time. Luckily, I have already been growning some edible plants and soaking/spouting grains, nuts, seeds and legumes since I was 17. I won't have to learn how to do those from scratch after we have the pets. I also make DIY fertilizer from plant scraps
