- In this tutorial I go over how to use Momentum by Big Fish Audio in Cakewalk by Bandlab. This is one of the best free samplers I have ever used so many effect and features to go through I hope you enjoy the video. Let me know if you any questions about the process below in the comments. Cakewalk is a FREE DAW. Yes you read correctly FREE! This a complete DAW that use to be a paid software. It comes with effects, plugins, mastering tools, instruments and everything need to create music. I decided to try and start making beats in Cakewalk to see what it can do and so far so good. Definitely check it out.

X.E.L. Ohh, Thanks for the shout outs and for doing a video on using Momentum inside Cakewalk. I have Momentum but haven't used it. Now that I've seen some of what it can do I realize I need to play with it and better understand what I've been missing. Do u know where the dll file is located ? You should be able to find it... And make sure that folder is being scanned...
@@XELOhh1 yep same process with every plugin but I have a few that just wont be found. I'm not good with computers I'm sure theres something I'm doing wrong. I just did this last week with a trial bundle. created acct, download, install, move to correct folder, authorize, and then bam usually works everytime.
Hyea .. Not sure whats blocking it.. You might want to check your plugin manger and see if it restricting the plugin..

Input Q tells the plug-in at what point to begin playing the loop/slice in relation to the time/tempo settings of the DAW. I.E. if you set it to one bar, the sample will trigger after one bar has passed.

I miss a feature on Momentum to assign a slice for, let's say, output 1 and another slice to the output 2.
So we could use them like a real sampler source on different channels. Like we could see, you'll have to deal with the snare and the kick at the same time and channel, with the same EQ, compression, transient shaper settings, or whatever, right?
Do you know if that's possible?? Assing them for different output...
Oh, and if it's possible to SAVE all the work on Momentum (sounds, tweaks, slice points, MIDI, etc.). Is that possible?
Big Fish Audio made a great program and, maybe, got too tired to make a manual. :-)))

How does this compare overall with Serato?
Hi can you take a one shot sound and spread it across all of the key's like the Air-10?
Not that I know of..This sampler is built for slicing long samples.. One shots only play 1 key on this sampler.. You might want to look into komplete kontrol or tx16wx they have the options to spread oneshots to different octaves on the keyboard... Hope this helps.

I love this. I use Kontakt for everything, but I miss the simplicity of NI's Intakt, which isn't supported in modern systems. This definitely looks similar to that though - perfect for quick and intuitive sampling. I'ma have to try this when I get home. Thanks for sharing. ☑

Hi, you referred me to this video when I asked about being able to make drum patterns where I can just pitch high hats up and down in the piano roll for example. It seems like I can't just have a one shot in momentum and then alter pitch on the piano roll, right? The only way would be to load the same high hat into momentum multiple times and pitch them in there separately, instead of just manipulating paink roll for a single loaded one shot. Maybe I'm missing something

In Momentum you have the Key and BPM on the middle bar over left called ORIGINAL. I reckon you leave the BPM alone, its meant just as the BPM of the original sample if you or it knows it. To change the BPM of the sample is via CAKEWALKS BPM/TEMPO up top centre of UI rather than changing that BPM inside of Momentum. I just say this because I reckon some people might think you can "timestretch" the sample INSIDE momentum vst itself.
I have also found "odd" things happen when you mess with the KEY listed way up top right. I found it doing strange things in CW with playback and had to reset that to NONE to fix. Im not quiet sure what the difference is between KEY up top right and KEY over left in that central "Original" bar.
I also found certain samples sort of degraded when you use PLAYBACK STRETCH rather than BEAT .. but I think that was with the AIF format samples supplied as freebees by BFA.
Yea the one at the top i believe is like a scale that the sampler flows when you do the changing of keys so it will lock to a scale that is set.. Still not sure what the input q does either... I think it quantizes the input but not sure how it really works... Still exploring the sampler but had to let people know about this beast... The effects are really what makes it great... I left out so many things when I look back at the video.. But i will show what I left off in one of my cook ups.. Thanks for the comment.. I was telling you this might be my go when chopping samples...now you see why..😄🙏

Re INPUT Q I spotted this elsewhere, maybe make sense to you?
"Momentum no longer crashes while playing many notes (10+) with Input Q enabled.
Latch mode and Input Q combination will now sustain a loop until the end of the selected Input Q division even after a new one in the same group is triggered."
Can you make a video on cutting a sample out of a full song in cakewalk and then using that sample in momentum ?

i accidentally hit the little 9 boxes on the top left and the whole thing glitched and disappeared.. It just shows white now and I've tried deleting it and redownloading it but the same thing happens. Do you know how I could go about this?
That sounds like something else might be going on... I know when I download the 1.4 version I had to completely remove momentum because I couldn't pull it up got a box saying that the doll file was bad or something like that . But I uninstalled momentum then it worked not sure if that what's going on with you but a uninstall reinstall worked for me... Hope this helps
Ik momentum stretches to tempo for you.so, I was wondering why when I cut a sample it always sounds off beat ? I've counted and spent countless hours trying to figure out What I'm doing wrong or what is happening...
Sampling is a science you have to keep trying to get what you want... This is just a tool.. hopefully you are using perfect loops to chop.. if you are using samples that are not perfect loops in momentum they will sound off and you will have to manually move the markers to get it on beat... Hope this help

Thanks... You can do one shots but its not going to give you the option to pitch shift different notes like komplet kontrol or tx16wx or ADSR sampler.. I think its suited for sample chops.. But use it how u like but it can do oneshots...😄

They are different samplers.. this is more of a slicer where Komplete Kontrol is more of a one shot player it doesn't slice like Momentum... Hope this helps...😀🙏🏾

Oh man, I downloaded it, got the 1.8 gb samples, then started playing with it. I'll have to wait and go back to this one. It's a bit confusing.

You can use keyfinder.. Then you just drag and drop the audio in it and it will tell you the key of the sample its free.. Or mixed in key is a good one I herd... It cost tho.. Hope this helps..😄

@@XELOhh1 I will give Output credit. They really know how to make something mediocre seem like the greatest thing since sliced bread.
First, you have to sign up with a credit card or PayPal, then it's a nightmare trying to download anything because, apparently, I constantly need to "check my connection " which is working fine, THEN, once you actually GET something downloaded, all the samples are encrypted to only work with Arcade.
So, you subscription ends and you either keep giving them money to use their samples or just delete the useless files from your computer.
I am really pissed of at how great they make it sound when it's nothing but frustration and disappointment.
I need to try it for sure I think they have a 30 day trial.. I will just make sure to bounce the audio out so I dont loose it.. Thanks for the heads up..😄
@@XELOhh1 For me it was too much trouble when there are too many other more efficient methods to get sounds in your mix.
Sounds.com or Loopcloud, or even Momentum.

That's a good question.. from what I remember the volume in the piano roll should work.

I have installed the Momentum plugin but it is not showing in cakewalk. I have put the custom vst folder also in the preferences. kindly guide @XLWOhh
check in the sampler folder... when looking for the instrument.. make sure Cakewalk is pointing to the correct folder were momentum is
