- Join James Hargreaves to go behind the scenes at what used to be the Pink Museum Studio, Liverpool (now the Motor Museum Studio) to retrace the steps of Oasis in December 1993 when they wrote and recorded their debut single, 'Supersonic'. Discover how and why the song evolved, and the random images and ideas all around Noel Gallagher at the time he wrote the lyrics in a deep-dive into the inspiration behind the words he wrote in half an hour in the back room.
I also need your opinion on what I should name my second EP (which I was also recording at the studio) - please vote on the 4 names in the comments!

I really like flying through the noise, there's just something about it that sticks out to me
Yeah that really is a good one... that might be the top contender currently
Great description of how Noel may've written the lyrics to Supersonic by just looking around him and writing down what he saw. It reminds me of the ending of The Usual Suspects where Agent Dave Kujan realises he's been sold a load of bollocks by Roger "Verbal" Kint and that Kint just made up his story from what he saw around him and got away with it. Well done!
Delighted to see you listening to The Las in your car, on a CD.
Me, I don’t like digital-only music. I was never into rentals & even though I apparently own my digits, I don’t feel I do unless I’ve a physical copy!
I know it’s a lyric but also a reference to where the song was recorded but the name “feeling supersonic” sounds great as an EP name
To me
Good suggestion 👍👍
Another great video James, insightful af. Best of luck in bringing back rock n roll to the masses. They need it 🎸
great video man! really enjoying this content and can’t wait for your second EP!
“Flying Through The Noise” is a great name for it
Really insightful video James. Looking forward to part two. I'll vote for Flying Through The Noise.
Found this spring ‘94 in an Indy record shop in downtown Laguna Beach CA after hearing about Oasis. I’d been over there 10 years, from London. This is the one song I can clearly remember exactly where I was first time I heard it.
really look forward to your uploads man. Much love from Portland, Oregon
Really great video always learning new stuff really like flying through the noise ❤️
Excellent video as always, love it when you do these videos looking deep into the song and how they came to be
Keep up the good work James!
Also for the name of The EP,
We The People for the name,
as we (you, I and the fans) together are the people who aim to bring back indie rock n roll music into the charts that is real and pure. Not tame
Good luck with the EP :D
Great video as usual James, great to put all of those little nuggets of info together and put them in the perspective of where they happened or where they came from... looking forward to pt2 now!
I like Flying through the noise but I think I like Evolver just a bit more so that's my vote! Going to be happy with any of them tbh...
Cool stuff, thanks Smitcher - yeah Evolver is a great idea
I like the first one, Flying Through the Noise. Its very Noel and a great title for a huge Oasis fan such as yourself. Mad fer it, yeah! 🤘🏻😎
Flying through the noise ☝️
Another great video mate 👍🏻
Another great video
Great stuff as always! Greetings from the Netherlands 🙌
Flying through the noise for me!
I think Flying Through The Noise is the best name most likely to get attention. Great video as always!
Nice work James, great video.
Flying through the noise 👏
Flying through the noise!
I like we the people. I think it nicely summarises the entire take back the charts movement
Great work james
Your channel is amazing.
Supersonic is my number 1 oasis song. 😀👍
Fair play mate, another cracking video, I definitely think he saw someone selling the big issue, was said that he was writing about his few days in liverpool when talking about Elsa
Flying Through The Noise!
Really looking forward to part 2. You would make the best detective bro, you have that kind of mind! By the way I pick 'Evolver' that's great!
I love all these videos recently, the research put into it is phenonomel. Is it possible you could do a tab for The La's Looking Glass, i cant quite get it the way Mavers does on the record.
Supersonic and Cigarettes are songs for guitarists. They are true, great rock and roll belters. The cacophony of guitar solos at the end of supersonic are pure bliss.
How about Columbia then? It hurts my head but it’s worse if I can’t hear it…
Mad fer it
Hey James, great video as per usual and a real treat to come back to after being away from service camping for a few days. As much as I support my own naming option (and am glad other people like it too), I've seen a few people suggest it may be better for a latter EP and after hearing the title Flying Through The Noise I'm actually inclined to agree. Flying Through The Noise just makes sense for the 2nd EP, as it makes the intentions of this project very clear and says it loud. I do however think that We The People would work fantastically for the third EP, once this movement has gained further momentum and has the backing of an ever greater audience. Just my 2 cents though.
Thanks Will!
Re the name, it's actually been a fairly close-run thing so far, but I'll be announcing the winner on the next video...
I do like We The People... Hope you had a good craic camping!
Flying Through The Noise 100%
Great video as usual James! Not sure what name u went with hopefully evolver
"he lives under a waterfall" could it be an 'unconscious' stone roses reference?
btw flying through the noise would be my pick. Great video, James!
I was thinking that earlier, weird innit
Boss!
The Doctor helicopter, snorting coke to sniffing a tissue, selling the big issue line has always been in my mind a shorthand for a riches to rags story. Like he's saying life has it's ups and downs and whatever your fortunes the advice still applies, you need to be yourself and you definitely need to appreciate the good times while they're happening
Supersonic, Earls Court, 1995, live, on the Oasis DVD , “There and then..”. LITERALLY, all you need to know.
We the people sounds great
Sleeping Giant because it's the most unique. And this was a great video, seems to me that the only reason it's called Supersonic because it rhymed with the gin and tonic the person had on their flight, crazy! Interesting the initial written lyric is always the second line and the first line is just a random rhyme.
Flying Through The Noise, no doubt about it
"Bonehead and Guigs started writing chords down because I don't know what chords are". I wonder if Noel is playing stupid or keeping his cards close to his chest at times. I've saw a few interviews of his and he doesn't want to get into how he went "from G to Em". He thinks it would be boring and no one would like to hear it. I'd listen to Noel talk about chord changes all day 😂
I think it’s at that time Noel was completely self thought and he discovered chords on his own (that’s why he uses the classics “oasis style G” chord) while bonehead said his brother played guitar and possibly told him the chord names and guigs was thought the bass by bonehead, who most likely thought him the names of the chords. Only speculation though.
@@theessay2530 taught, not thought :)
I remember some female American singer asking Noel about Supersonic because she thought it would be impossible for someone who knew jack about music theory to cobble the chord sequence together. He was very dismissive about it. It might have been on the 10th anniversary Definitely Maybe DVD.
@@harrygraves6870 “Only speculation taught.” 😂
He will know most of the simple chords but doesn't know all by name so rather than looking up all the 1s hes not sure on just get someone with education to do it in seconds, noel plays by ear more than anything else
We The People 👍
Flying Through The Noise
Flying through the noise, I reckon
I think Evolver is a name for one at a later stage. I like We The People but that also feels to me like a one you might name a later EP. Flying through the noise works best for me due to its double meaning.
That drum beat at the end i started singing walk this way by aerosmith fitted so perfect lol.try it really works ull b amazed.😎😎😎
Evolver is awesome
There’s a Wolfe Tones song that has the lyric ‘I’m drinking gin and tonic and I’m feeling supersonic’. Can’t remember the song title.
Today I learned that the lyric is "supersonic train". I always thought it was"supersonic tray".
Up on the downslope has always been a name I’ve liked.
1:31 James doing his best Dion Dublin routine.
Couple names im thinking of for my albums if and when i make them ‘Art of this world’ and ‘No one in particular , everyone in general’ feel free to have one if you think they are half decent:)
Hi from France James. I like better Evolver name for your EP.
Anyone know where Real People's studio was in Liverpool?? I know it was on the dock road but don't know which building.
@ 00:50 - Is that Johnny Marr sitting on the piano playing the ES 335?
It’s Noel
Evolver is hilarious and clever ☑️
What colour do you think the BMW is? I've always thought blue but apparently I've heard it was black
Now if u take the lyrics out of whatever by oasis and replace them with libertines dont look bk in to the sun it fits so perfect i stumbled across this by accident.😉😉
RIP Hambi
The guitar rift from Supersonic sounds like “Layla by Derek and the Dominos” what do you think?
we are pull is best of bunch the rest ant very good
Interested in that ticket stub/gig. Oasis were originally called The Rain (pre-Noel), yeah? Crossover?
No rain were a band also signed to Columbia records as the realies were...from huyton...fronted by Ned Murphy
Album. A Riot of Colour
Like
What about “The past cannot be changed” or “what goes around comes around “ 🤷🏼♂️ just an idea 💡
It's a real shame how Noel Shat on the real people after they showed him do much kindness and helped them out alot with their music at the start can you do some videos on the La's guitar and bass parts please 🙏👌👍
I'd love to know what the lead guitar in the bridge of 'There She Goes' is playing. All the tutorials and tabs say it's just the main riff which it is most clearly not.
Stop with this boring story. They are where deserve to be
flying through the noise is yje nesy
:)
Noel will ask James to ghost write his autobiography.
18:09 I've always interpreted this as a disenfranchised working class thing (maybe too political) or a stone roses reference or both. But who knows...
So 'supersonic' must be because it was written in supersonic speed
For me We The People is a great choice. Evolver isn't bad though
The Realies are just so credible. Top blokes/band whos unreleased 2nd album has been ripped by everyone. Lads somehow laf that off; not sure I could.
Noel Gallgher...typical middle child :D
Wernt it originally “noels gonna tell you what I’m on about “ but Liam wasn’t having it
James how to I private message you mate ?
Hi Eddie, you can send me an email to jameshargreavesguitar@outlook.com
@@JamesHargreavesGuitar brill thanks My mate will be In touch soon 👌👌
@@JamesHargreavesGuitar he’s emailed you 👍 check his band out they are just up your street
Is he "sinister"?
Right handed guitarist, lefty writer!
Sleeping Giant
Noel knows what the chiefs are 🤣
Most to least favourite
Flying through the noise
We the people
Evolver
Sleeping giant
All the vehicle references and he still can't drive!
Flying Through The Noise is the only good one, the rest… not so good lol
