Celtic fan here. We don't call for penalties as we rarely get them. No seriously I agree with you, yet another wrong decision from an embarrassingly bad group of refereeing officials.

I think there needs to be an open and transparent enquiry into every handball awarded to any team this season...because you can group the one Celtic were awarded today with many similar not awarded. So someone representing the SFA needs to explain how these decisions are made. Absolutely zero consistency.
Depends on the ref and the teams involved, but some of the the decisions are ridiculous
Penalty was very soft, but I don't think it would have affected the result in any meaningful way. Morton however actually did have a go and had some dangerous attacks, especially in the first 20 minutes. They are a team that tends to float around mid table in the championship, but I think they should have a real push and go for it. I would love to see them in the top flight; the same old teams are becoming stale.
Penalty was a disgrace our referees are a total joke.

As a die-hard Celtic man, I have to say this wasn't a penalty. In the last weeks and months, Celtic did have some bad luck with penalty decisions - but today, we were really lucky in this respect. I'm just glad the result was so clear; I would have felt bad if Celtic advanced to the next round because of such a decision ...
Ref gave pen decision knowing the game was well won v lower opposition . Wait until final v rangers then ref shall guarantee side in their favour with main decisions which count .

We were not lucky. That dodgy penalty has the last thing we needed or wanted, it has just distracted everyone from a decent game. Some luck?! Did you listen to BBC Scotland afterwards. The wrong decision was the only thing they discussed yet Celtic are the bad guys if they have the temerity to mention equally poor VAR decisions.

It's hard enough for a team in our position to go to Celtic Park without nonsense officiating like that. Keeping Celtic out for as long as possible and hoping to nick something is obviously the gameplan and to have that chucked out the window because Kevin Clancy is an incompetent moron is a real shame, as we had started well and you never know.

@@poii6417 2023 Morton are far better than 2013 Morton. That was probably one of our worst teams in my lifetime. We went through 3 managers, lost a game 10-2, finished 10th and were relegated. That is proof that anything can happen. No one is claiming Morton would have beat Celtic, or that Celtic wouldn't have still won by numerous goals. It would've just been nice to get a fair crack at it.

Yet again season after season anytime anyone has the audacity to give something against them they play the victim card to put pressure on referees and every single season it works with referees petrified to give anything against them. It's about time the SFA clamp down on these tactics and charge them with bringing the game into disrepute for their constant whinging, they need to be put in their place.

@@marknugent9851 I think what King Dom is saying is that there is a "butterfly effect".
Basically we can't know what the outcome of the game would be if that call was changed. Morton might have gotten a more respectable result, one they could have been proud of (obviously a likely loss still). They may have grown more in confidence. Or Celtic might have went on to drub them 10 - 0. We just don't know.
But it wouldn't have been quite the same game. From my perspective - it kind of spoiled the game a bit. This handball issue needs to be addressed properly, it's getting farcical now.

A little perspective, their club has a transfermarkt valuation of £3.48m and our squad has 19 players who are valuation above £3.48m.
Giant killings happen, it's why before we take the field against PSG Celtic fans entertain the dream of a result, but giant killings don't happen that often and when you factor in Celtic has dropped 26 points in 60 Ange lead league games (couple where after we wrapped the league and the rest towards the start of the first season before his culture of we never stop arrived then the measly 5 this season, 22 games 20 wins) it's even less likely.
I think people are clutching at straws imagining £3.48m Morton might get a W, and I don't think saying that is unfair. Could they win? Possible. Is it likely against Celtic, especially this squad? Enormously improbable.

I’m a Celtic fan through and through but that first one was never a penalty! I’ll be the first to have a go at the officials if they deny a blatant pen, but it works both ways. It’s consistency we all expected from VAR, but we’re getting anything BUT! What’s the point in having VAR if the officials aren’t up to using it.

The standard of Refs in Scotland is embarrassing. They're all just not good enough. Even under no real pressure, they get it so wrong consistently.
In big pressure games they're doubly not fit for the job.
