    Enjoying your videos. Old cars may drive me to drink. May consider bourbon as a cure. Maybe you could recommend a good brand. I knew nothing about Northstar Cadillacs. Never even considered myself a fan of the brand. But last summer I managed to buy a pair of the "tri-nines." Little did I know of their infamy. What "Bro Stone" calls the short "header bolts." LOLOLOL So my '97 DeVille D'elegance has had overheating/coolant loss issues. I had my longtime trustworthy mechanic replace the coolant tank that I ordered from GMPartsNow. Not sure if he checked/cleaned/blew out the line that goes underneath the big silver engine cover. I'll be checking this on my next day off. I may try to tackle the thermostat changeout under your tutelage. TYVM for the great videos. I subscribed.

I do everything myself because I don't trust most mechanics, especially after what I have seen from some of those who have asked for my help. As for Bourbon, I love Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve... there are so many good bourbons!

    What a refreshing auto repair video! I'm 71...my dad raised 5 kids as a mechanic...first...I salute and join you in your "appreciation " of auto engineers"... I've made a point of owning pickups no newer than 1985...confident I could fix anything that went wrong. I started having kids who, as they "grew up" wanted cars that held current staus with their friends. I warned them if they bought vehicles that, when the hood was raised, looked like a drunk plumber built it I would be unavailable for repairs. Of course my first 4 kids are girls/women so I tried to keep up as much as possible but as my colorful language grew in creativity and volume I realized why my mom tried to keep us kids away from the shop area when my dad was working on a friend's vehicle on his weekends away from his job in a shop.for whatever brainfart reason I recently acquired a 98 de Ville... your video on the cooling system kept me from parking my "caddy" in the deepest canyon of "hell" . And your "calm " ironic personality kept my cooling system from driving me over "the edge ", whatever that is...so I'm having a shot or two of Hornitos and diving in more relaxed and accepting of just another job. I'm subscribing and recommending your videos.. and there will be a 98 de Ville for sale soon.

      Thanks very much Bob, I think that was my best ever comment. Most of the videos I make are about my 2002 F150. I am not interested in a new vehicle with all the unneeded bells and whistles, the complexity and now more quality problems than of past... so I make my vehicles more comfortable, efficient and powerful. Last vehicle I bought was in 2010! A 2006 Cadillac. I appreciate you for passing my channel along to others and let me know how the Deville Repair goes... to be honest, I loved that car (my mom's), but maybe you saw it has been wrecked and now the squirrels ate the wiring harness! czcams.com/video/4XMF3WxGjJg/video.html

      Make sure you check that return line to the reservoir. That’s the biggest cause of overheat with these engines. I showed in my video… also, check out this video: Overview of Cadillac / GM Electronic Level Control System - Deville Series Part 13

    I have a 03 deville with an overheating problem a weird heater problem where the driver side gets hot but the passenger side doesn't and I'm clearly not getting cool and all the way through the system because my top hose has very little water in it and stays squishy and never gets hard so the previous odor replaced the water pump I've replaced the thermostat I've checked the top middle line for blockage but the coolant was kind of nasty so I'm now flushing they got for your video that show the location of the pecock because I could not find it. But when you flush do you close the pecock or leave it open? Do you recommend a separate heater core flush also? I have heard that flushing the whole system can lodge particles in the core and cause problems with heater core blockage?

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  Před rokem +3

      In my opinion, a power flush that pushes the fluid through the entire system could plug the heater core unless flushed in the opposite direction. If you're getting heat in the passenger compartment, but only on one side you might have a blend door problem. Do you have dual climate controls? There will be 2 blend doors, one for the passenger side and one for the driver side. If you are adjusting the temperature at the panel, and only getting temperature changes on one side of the vehicle, it could be the blend door actuator. You'll need to test for operation.

      They are great cars. That was a bit expensive to replace the radiator, coolant tank, thermostat, hoses and associated labor. I would be sure to understand where your overheating problem is coming from. Is your radiator full? Do you see any coolant leaks? In my video, I point out that one line that crosses the intake that many have had problems with plugging. Check that first with a cool engine. Also, get the thermostat I suggest that is a fail to open device. Good protection. Let me know what you find. You can also reach me on my Facebook Page: Driving Intelligence

    So I read another guys post where he losing antifreeze on the middle bottom of the car and he said the fix was a bad thermostat. Now if the thermostat is near the air filter, why would antidreeze be leaking from the bottom. I just floored it because of poor engine performance due to bad coils and then I saw the car was overheating and when I looked on the bottom of the car it was leaking coolant.

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  Před 2 lety +1

      sad thing is leaks can start in one place and show up somewhere else. You will need to let the car get very hot as I did in my video and inspect for leaks. If your car is overheating, check the return line at the top of the engine as I mentioned in the video. Could be plugged. An overheat is going to create a leak given the higher pressures in the cooling system.
