- In this video, I run through the assembly process of a 2020 Trek Domane SLR 7 custom Project One bike with the Sram AXS Force component group. The New version of the Domane is more aero than previous versions, revised IsoSpeed decoupler, a sweet new down tube storage system, and a T47 threaded bottom bracket. The bike was assembled at Elevation Cycles in Parker Colorado.
Trek road bikes are one of the most beautiful looking frames imo, that one awsome build!
Thank you!
I love the Trek Domane. This particular Project One build is excellent and eye-catching.
I have a 2013 Trek Domane (1st year production). Love it!!! It weighs in @17lbs currently. I can reduce that by replacing the 300g seat w/ a 150g seat and upgrading from Bontrager R2 Tubeless tires to R3's. These upgrades will take another 190-200g off the bike to approximently 16 1/2 lbs. Now I was considering upgrading to a new disc brake Domane ... even test rode one ... and I HATED it!!! ... It's the compact double!!! All my bikes have a "triple" up front and I love my "granny" gear!!! Now before you say I do not know what I am talking about ... I have a Mech Engineering Degree from a very very highly rated university. So here is my simple reasoning: Your gearing range is like a loaf of bread ... now my loaf is sliced into 30 slices ... the compact double is only 22 slices. Yes, there is some overlaps w/ the triple, but while the ground doesn't see the differences ... my legs do!!!! Sometimes when my legs start to cramp, I shift down and "spin up". And I know a lot of riders like me that do not like the compact doubles (usually they are older and have ridden "triples" for years) So I think the manufacturers are making a big mistake of only offering "compact doubles" ... so I'll stick w/ my red&white 2013 Domane for the fore see-able future ... And a side note: since I do not "mash" the pedals but sit on the seat ... (and keep my chain super clean and lubricated) I get over 7,000 miles before needing to replace the chain ... It is a GREAT bike!!!
The main issue with triples is like you say, there are some overlaps with multiple gears being the same or very close duplicate ratios, but the biggest thing with triples is the shift quality is nowhere near as good as a modern double. The biggest complaint I hear about a wide range double or even a 1x setup is the bread slices are "thicker" meaning a bigger jump or drop between gears.
Honestly for me, on the bike I commute with I had a compact double with an 11-28 cassette. Whenever I would shift in stop and go traffic, I would often find myself shifting 2 cogs at a time because shifting 1 at a time was not a thick enough slice. I went to a 1x setup on that bike, kept roughly the same overall range, but the gears all seem more useable for my commuting conditions.
I made a couple other videos on going from a common road triple setup to a wide range double. czcams.com/video/q07DQ24rPl0/video.html
And my commuter bike going from double to wide range single czcams.com/video/xF-KaqMeEig/video.html
I'm not trying to convert you over from a triple set up, but being a mechanical engineer, you may find the information and charts in the videos interesting.
Thanks for taking the time to leave detailed feedback, I appreciate it!
What nice bike that is! I am currently waiting for my SLR 7 DI2 to arrive. Great video for some tips and tricks, especially the tubing to stop the cable chatter. I kind of wish Trek would have already done that out of the factory, especially for a bike in this price point that's intended to be all road, and for many owners will see gravel and some bumps.
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the best videos I’ve seen in a while. Great narration! Well done!
Thanks! 👍
Nice work Joey. Somebody sure is getting a nice bike. KB.
Thanks! Yeah, it's a pretty sweet bike. Rides like you're on a magic carpet!
Love this color scheme.
Interesting to see this build-up! I didn't think my bikes were that old but it seems the only component that hasn't changed completely are the presta valves.
Yes, they change some every year, but all the new technology will, for the most part, bolt right onto your existing bike. Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it!
You all prolly dont care at all but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Kade Kyson Instablaster =)
@Thatcher Kane I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Thatcher Kane it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account !
Trek has a winner !
Nice video! I recently got a 2022 slr6 eTap and confused about the brake, product page says SRAM, but it has a SHIMANO lock, thought there was a mix up since I picked up a built bike. 20:50 kind of explained lol, thanks.
Makes me wanna be a bike mechanic.
Thanks!
My trek domane red 2020 with campagnolo groupset and wheels
Hi Joey, I'm looking to possibly buy an older 2019 Domane SLR frame, from what I see online the seat mast is a different design than the 2020. I've read a lot of negative reviews online about the seat adjustment for 2019 model. Other than the seat mast would you say the BB90 is reliable with 24mm crank? I can't spend the money on the new frame with T47 and improved seat mast but would like to know if the 2019 is still a good buy in your opinion. Thanks.
Nice bike, nice video.
Thanks Philip! Always appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback!
Anyone know of any companies out there making spacer adapters that would make the cockpit look more integrated?
Cool, i figured the cables would be trimmed by trek to proper length
I guess there's always the possibility of a customer swapping a long stem or one with more rise, but it's nice having all the parts included to shorten the hoses.
OH MY IF I WON THE LOTTERY!
Thanks for this video post!
You're welcome!
Perhaps set the torque on the bottom bracket cups since you took the crank out.
Oh I did. I pulled the cups as well to see what was threaded in the frame as well.
This is a great in depth assembly. I am currently waiting for my project one Domane SLR 6. I am curious about the frame size. It looks like a " Pro" fit. Short head tube. I am getting the pro fit and am very curious about what it looks like!!
It is a small 50cm frame. I can't remember, but I think it's the H1.5 geometry.
@@JoeyMesa Thanks so much!
Nice.
Thanks!
nice video. Wich size is this bike?
Thanks! This particular bike has a 50cm size frame.
What was the geometry for this Project One 50cm frame? H1.5 or H2?
Honestly, I can't remember. It looks like H1.5 though.
Great video as usual. Can you do one on truing disc rotors? I have had a couple of attempts at it but never with satisfactory results.
Thanks! Sure, I'll be away from the shop over the holidays, but I'll get a rotor truing video together in the first part of 2020. Thanks for the feedback and request!
Got a new video up czcams.com/video/OA6qlG_nTjs/video.html
did I miss the frame size?
It's a 50cm. I never mentioned it in the video, but you can see it on the box at the beginning.
Should be over 18 lb, even in that size
If the bike is still at the shop next week, I'll weigh it and post the results.
@@JoeyMesa What Size Frame Was That?
50cm
Yep, you 're correct, it's about 18.5lbs.
@@JoeyMesa When you said 15 or 16lbs, I thought no way...that can't be right because that would be in the same arena as the Emonda SLR. I built an Emonda and with 38mm wheels it weighs 13.99lbs. I surely would not think the Domane would be anywhere near the weight of the Emonda. Glad you cleared this up.
I want buy plesea
me tooooo!
It manufacture spec weight is 17.50lbs. Dont mislead your viewers. Domane's are known to be heavy bikes which is a sacrifice for comfort. If you want light go with the Emonda =)
Already discussed this in another comment 3 months ago. Try to keep up.
I was reading the comments and the way you answer a to mister Wong is kind of rude.if you don’t like comments either disable or don’t post.( you owe him an apology).
Here's the deal Peter, in general, I try to be nice to everybody, but let's get a couple of things straight. First off, if somebody makes a snarky remark in the comments, they usually get a snarky response or no reply. I felt like his comment was rude, but it's a free country and he's free to say what he wants and I'm free to reply as I see fit.
Good day sir.
right on!
