    Thank you for this simple and helpful little video. I want to line all of my gardens with a border of white alyssum next spring, like I did in one of my back gardens. As well, I think my great nephews will enjoy this indoor project with me next spring! It will be a chance to watch the process of growing plants from seeds. It will be rewarding when they get to take a pot of these little gems home! As well, it will be a change from watching videos on their electronic devices lol Have a great day!😊

    Awesome video! Are watering and sunlight all you’re giving after planting the seeds? is it just enough water to keep the soil moist 1” below surface?

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před rokem +2

      Pretty much yes. If you see seedlings start to show slowing the growth, either you can give them a light dose of water soluble fertilizer (such as fish fertilizer), or you can transplant them sooner to their final place. You can start watering by keeping the surface moist at the beginning, and as they grow try water deeper. More importantly, don't let soil dry completely. Hope this helps and thank you so much for your comment!

      @@TowardGarden great advice thank you! i will write this down. i noticed you didn’t use wet soil initially when sowing the seeds and placed them in dry soil and then gave them water after covering them up.
      i accidentally soaked my soil first and then planted them in, lightly covered them, and didn’t add any further water, would that be an ok way to start?

    I did everything you did except I planted my seeds into two pots. Now mine aren’t growing past the size you showed @1:35 (30 days) and it’s been longer than that. One pot all but one of the seedlings literally just disappeared. I’m starting to see it happening to the other plant now too. What do I do? What have I done incorrectly?
    Thank you

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před 2 měsíci

      It is really hard to tell without seeing them. Do you notice any pest activity? Did you start in seed mix, or just potting soil? My guess is that it could be a soil-borne fungal disease effecting the roots, or damping off. I would start over in a clean seed starting mix without any compost or garden soil. Also do not over water them. wait until top soil is dry then water. Hopefully will have a better results next time. Happy growing and thank you for visiting!

    So do you start the seeds in your house? My window sills aren't deep enough I don't think. Could this work on the kitchen counters? I don't have a lot of space. Thanks!

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před 11 měsíci

      I usually don't keep my seedings indoor. You may start seeds indoors but it is better to move them outside as soon as they sprout- If the light is not sufficient seedlings will grow leggy and not to their best. If you plan to plant them outside in few weeks , then I suggest to keep them outside and only bring them inside at nights if the temperature is too cold. Otherwise they should be ok. happy growing and thank you for visiting!

    • @tiffanycox6212
      @tiffanycox6212 Před 11 měsíci +1

      So you keep them outside in the elements? Or under a porch of some kind?@@TowardGarden

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před 11 měsíci

      Outside yes, but for sure protected from harsh elements. I will have them under shade cloth from hot midday sun, or if rainy/windy, just move them somewhere safe. Not sure if you have access to cold frames, but they are great to protect seedlings. The easiest option is to use clear storage bins with clear lids(like 15 qt. box) Add some holes for air circulation and you can put seedlings inside to be safe from elements. Hope this helps@@tiffanycox6212

    • @TowardGarden
      @TowardGarden  Před 2 lety +4

      Alyssum seeds can take up to 14 days to germinate, but it is possible that you got a bad batch of seeds (which is normal when growing from seeds). You may start another tray while you are waiting, or I suggest to get a new seed packet from another vendor and replant them. Also, a heat mat might help to increase the temperature if it is too cold. I hope this helps and thank you for visiting.
