My understanding of this pattern is that what you called wings are actually supposed to be the casing as the nymph heads to the top. So when I tie it, I tie them in before folding over the foam backing so they run along the body of the fly. I remember reading an original article written by bastian on this fly and that is what I recall. Either way. it's a great fly!

This fly is extremely effective, originally made foot caddis, but I discovered that with ginger dubbing, it becomes a sulfur emerger. And I mean an incredible sulfur emerger. I fish this fly on he point and a sulfur dry fly about 10" - 12" up the leader. They land close together so generally in the same drift lane. Most trout eat this fly!

Nice one Cheech, it reminds me of a Tellico nymph. I like it, thanks for sharing.

Hey Joe - think that this one would be an excellent beetle imitation as well. The wings and shuck would give the impression of "ripples" around the beetle. Might be hard to see on the water but that should bot be a problem with the bass and the panfish as they are anything but subtle hitting a beetle. Cheers! Hank

@@hankvana2149 hi, beetle yes, I thought that too, but when I first saw the thumbnail that shellback and contrasting rib said tellico. Anyway you slice it, it's a nice mash up of patterns. I like that dubbing Cheech used too, I wonder if Nature's Spirit makes it... cheers neighbor!
