What is Goon? (Animated Short)

- A very short film explaining the deep cultural significance of Australia's greatest beverage.
I completed this at the end of 2018, it was my biggest personal project to date. I'm posting this now because, well... I'll be breaking down the storyboarding process for this on my next upload and this shall be required viewing. Hope you enjoy.

Could you please also talk about the business side when uploading the storyboard process? Like how you managed the client, how did you budget the project and how many hours spend/revisions etc. Would be really cool to get that behind the scenes info as well.

Great work bro, I wouldn't drink that stuff with a barge pole as it's usually for cat ladies and wine aunts, but the animation work you did is incredible.
How did you get away with this? The ingredients- cigarette ends, spiders and, er, medication: not to mention the way the sack was filled! Brilliant and very funny.

For anyone wondering, the real secret ingredient to goon is Australian subsidies to its domestic wine industry in the way of tax cuts and rebates. The Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) Rebate and other tax measures ensure that goon is by far the cheapest choice amongst otherwise highly taxed alcohol choices. The intent is to prop up the relatively young wine industry by allowing it to offload its lowest quality products onto the domestic market.

Would love to know how long this project took to create with a deadline? Like a breakdown of how long pre prod took then the animation and the post prod with amends? My biggest pain is doing too much on such a short deadline lol
I'd say 4 weeks all up, I did this over a few months in my downtime so it's hard to say super accurately. I'd say more than half was scripting and design.
@@BenMarriott Thanks Ben really appreciate this comment, four weeks wowza i wish i had time like that on projects, you've made me realise how much I go through haha... when you say designs are they sketches or builds in AE ready to animate? really want to start doing some personal stuff where i can spend some decent time planning designs through and getting stuck into the deep stuff and getting some amazing transitions down with some great rigged elements! You've opened my eyes a little on time frames here so thank you!
What is goon? Does it really contain spiders? Did it really come from Sir Stanley's teats? Who cares! This is bloody brilliant, Ben! Only missing the Wheel of Goon, which combines goon with another Aussie icon, the Hills Hoist. If you haven't ever played Wheel of Goon, you're not actually Australian. It's also known as Goon of Fortune (and there's even a Wikipedia article on it!)
