    I've owned many breeds and cross-breeds. Years ago , I found a young lurcher at a rescue shelter. She was phenomenal! Her sense of humour was a delight. To watch her run at full speed was an experience of pure beauty. RIP my beloved Morag. I have now adopted retired Greyhounds. Mine are more reserved, but stil really lovely dogs.

    My boy Rocky passed in November, I haven't had the balls to watch this till today, he was 17, he was found at 10 months old, chained to a lamp post, trauma to his neck, I took him straight away, he was huge, sweet & terrified, he occasionally went into psycho mode when he sensed sheep or deer, I miss you pal.

    We are on our second lurcher now, first one we got was 18 month rescue. Now we have a rescue puppie, exact same nature, (strangely exact same color and markings) our kids can be kids around her, they make good family pets, but they need a space, to open up and run their socks off.

    Love lurchers, but people need to remember they are bred traditionally for hunting capacity. Our current one likes to chase cats and squirrels, but is unlikely to catch them. Her predecessor would come back with prey in her jaws (foxes - mange-ridden, not fit ones, so she was probably doing them a favour -, squirrels, rabbits). It became truly problematic when a cat thought he could stare her down. He couldn't, and my lovely dog killed it. I had to give her away as I couldn't let the cat's owner (we both witnessed the death) see the dog again because it would upset her. Lurchers are adorable dogs: friendly, gentle, nice to humans, but they will kill.

    they dont need that much exercise 2 30 mins or 1 big hour walks enough

    • @glancetoleg
      @glancetoleg Před 5 měsíci

      Not true. Depends on the cross and how much sighthound is in them. A longdog or a grey/Beddy crossed back to a whippet probably won't need much exercise. A collie x whippet or wheaten x grey will need as much exercise as collie or a wheaten terrier (ie three hours or two hours a day). People don't exercise their dogs enough. Also a proper lurcher is best worked. They are bred to hunt, and it is a bit cruel to keep one and not allow it to chase prey. If you don't want to do this, then you should not get anything with sighthound blood.

    Need something on long dogs rescued one a few months ago just want more info about them they’ve been around for long time like lurchers they are sight hound mixed with another sight hound My hamish was supposed to be greyhound Scottish deerhound but really looks like borzoi I mean really it almost overshadows the greyhound but he’s a lover boy just would love more info like with lurchers

    • @glancetoleg
      @glancetoleg Před 5 měsíci

      Good for you to recognise the difference between a long dog and a lurcher. A cross between two sight hounds is, as you rightly observe, not a lurcher, even though the term is wrongly applied. In my experience a long dog tends to take after one or other of the parents in character. So a saluki cross might be a bit diffident. I bought a dog as a long dog (grey x whippet) and immediately realised that she was lurcher (bull x grey with a bit of whipper, saluki). She is lovely and affectionate, but has a bit of bull mentality.

    • @jillthompson1248
      @jillthompson1248 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@glancetoleg sounds beautiful my hamish can be bull headed but I put that on ( no insult intended) him being such a guy And I’m positive it also has to do with me spoiling him to no end and as he was a rescue I don’t know his parents or the ones that had him and that’s probably a good thing as people that abuse abandon or in anyway don’t care for them as family and a lifetime commitment don’t see the nice kind caring side of me. But I like to think his dad was a borzoi prince waiting to become the czar and his mom was greyhound and spritly silly and cuter than a bugs ear and very much a girl just because I see those things in him Enjoy your bull headed pup I’m positive that pup is a joy in your life. And if you would give your pup a bit of cheese from me.

    Actually alot of lurchers look the same depending on breed type ,sadly they are the easiest dog to pass on to others especially if more running dog is in the type an they dont need lots of exercise that is a total myth ,I have owned ,bred,and worked lurchers for there true making for alot of years now and currently own a very mixed lurcher to lurcher bred dog I kept from my last litter also a bedlington x lurcher, which is one of the types that breed true to type on the first cross. I really wish that people would stop putting the wrong information about these types of dog an also others that chastise the breed ,they are an extremely trouble free dog but then again most are if trained an brought up correctly.
    It really is a bone in the throat with me when these dogs are g
    Given the wrong info.

    • @glancetoleg
      @glancetoleg Před 5 měsíci

      No, she is not lazy. You might be, and are projecting this onto the dog. A proper lurcher needs a lot of exercise. A longdog might not. If you don't know the difference between a longdog and a lurcher, you probably should not own either. But there again, most dog owners I meet shouldn't own dogs. Most are under-exercised and owned by people who have little clue about why certain dogs have been bred as they are. The worst owners are those who keep brachycephalic dogs (pugs, Frenchies, bulldogs, shih tzus etc) which simply should not exist: they live their entire lives in discomfort because of being bred to look 'cute' (aka revolting). All of them should be sterilised so that they cannot produce young that live in equal pain.
