  • Take a closer look at the fuel pump and fuel delivery system on our top fuel dragster. Steve Read walks through the fuel pump, the fuel lines, and shows how the fuel system works to deliver nitromethane to that 10,000 horsepower soldier stuffed between the frame rails!

    Probably the best explanation I’ve heard.
    Didn’t leave me with any, but, what about this or that.
    Thank you for sharing!

    Absolutely love your videos! Could you do a video sometime on what a crew chief does at the starting line as far as adjusting various settings/air bleeds?

    With the fuel pump driven from the cam, it the cam belt driven from the crank? Do you worry about the belt breaking? Or are you running like a Pete Jackson gear drive? To give it a mechanical connection?

    • @stevereadTF
      @stevereadTF  Před 9 měsíci +2

      There’s no cam belt, just gears.

    Great video. I see alot of teams take off the fuel line from the barrel valve just before shutdown, why is that ?

      Shuts the engine down sooner because theres no fuel going through the supercharger. As the only lubricant to keep the teflon cool inside the blower the sooner you stop it from running the longer the teflon lasts. Thanks for the question

      @@stevereadTF looking forward to seeing you there. Keep up the videos. As a mechanic of over 35 years. Love the technical aspect.

    Way less complicated than the space shuttle fuel pump lol

    Hard to fathom that an engine can actually use that much fuel in such a short time

      Well towards the end he says that there is a concrete risk of the fuel choking the spark plug, and that can cause fuel to say in the cylinder reducing the space for air and therefore increasing pressure on the compression stroke so much that it can blow the head gasket and damage the blower....
