"Waar Wij Steden Doen Verrijzen" - Anthem of Flevoland [Lyrics + Translation]

"Waar Wij Steden Doen Verrijzen" was written in 1994 by Mak Zeiler, with music by Riemer van der Meulen. The victory over water is one of the central themes of the anthem, and rightfully so, as nearly the entirety of Flevoland was raised from the sea in the mid-20th century. The land that is now Flevoland was joined together on the 1st of January 1986 from the non-provincial municipalities of Dronten, Lelystad, Almere, and Zeewolde, as well as the Noordoostpolder, which was then part of the province of Overijssel.
It is customary for the Provincial Council of Flevoland to sing the song at special events. Usually, only the first verse of the song is sung, rather than all three.
