CCR is not a version, it is the original. That takes nothing away from Tina Turner’s version. It is HOT! It takes a lot to cover CCR and do it well enough to make it your own. CCR is unique and, for me, Proud Mary will always be their song. If you react to Tina’s, be sure to react to a live recording. Seeing her do Proud Mary is an absolute MUST.
He wrote it, John wrote that song
CCR wrote the song. Both do a great job.
CCR wrote Proud Mary. Ike and Tina's cover is very good too.
Both versions are great! If you want, it picked up with a faster beat, go with Tina! If you want it, slower and more “swampy” go with CCR!😁
Proud Mary's not a cover by CCR it's a cover by Tina Turner CCR originally recorded it and it was written by John Fogerty and Proud Mary is not just a cover by Tina Turner it's her signature song
Ike and Tina's version was a cover of CCRs song.
John Fogerty wrote this released in January 1969! Actually Ike &Tina did the cover.
This is not a cover. John wrote this song.
I saw Tina sing this song in 2000 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was 60. Lionel Richie was the opening act. We had so much fun. Let me tell you she was bad-ass those legs were banging she sang and danced the whole 2 hours .5 costume changes. Queen of rock love love love Tina!
A correction to the lyrics....it's "pumped a lot of pane"...not pain. Pane as in propane. Lot of gas and oil industry near New Orleans
thank god for you because i was starting to question my reality - 35 years i've been thinking "it's 'pane' right?"
Tina Turner said she felt strange singing "pumped a lot of tang" down in New Orleans.
Lyric sheets read "'tane" as in octane.
You should definitely checkout their version of “I put a spell on you” and “Susie Q” plus Elvis has a version of proud Mary as well
Susie Q is fun but repetitively simple
I like Elvis’s version, but I think it does belong to Tina!
This is ORIGINAL written by John Fogerty
Hears the fun, John wrote Proud Mary.
My Uncle John WROTE Proud Mary in 1969. Creedence had a big hit with it. Tina Turner later did a cover in 1970, also had a big hit. Broke her career wide open. Her theme song
"Proud Mary" is a song by American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival written by John Fogerty. It was released as a single in January 1969 by Fantasy Records and on the band's second studio album, Bayou Country.
Oh man, gotta check out the Tina version, and definitely do a live version because watching her dance in those freakin' spiked heels just takes it to another level! 🙂❤
This is a more laid back version, and it's the first version I heard as a kid. So when I heard Tina and Ike's, I was like "That's not right!" 😂
This is a CCR song, but Tina's version is a classic.
When I went to basic training in 1983 the drill sergeant used this for our marching cadence. It was great.
After Tina divorced from Ike it was this CCR song that safed her ass in the 70ties, Her beginning solo career was based on Proud Mary and the show around it. Without John Fogerty she might have got lost, sadly John Fogerty and CCR never saw a penny from the royalties. I always wonder what Tina is thinking about that.
This is the original version!!!!!!!!!!
CCR reached no2 in the billboard chart 1969, Ike & Tina only no4 in 1971
Love CCR .. Reminds of me of my High School Days!! I love their songs HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN & FORTUNATE SON. Of course, love Proud Mary .. then Tina Turner made it her own! Check out Proud Mary live at Wembley 2000 .. TINA! 👠👠👗
❤CCR
John fogerty wrote everything!
Pretty close
CCR wrote it! Ike and Tina "put their twist on it"
John Fogerty's voice is amazing
Not a cover it is their song...
Ike and Tina did the song but John Fogerty wrote it. He wrote it right after he got out of the army (left a good job…).
John Fogarty of CCR wrote the song. Tina brought more energy to her cover.
John Fogerty, the leader of CCR wrote Proud Mary, Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising, Down On The Corner, Born On The Bayou, Who'll Stop The Rain, Have You Ever Seen The Rain, etc.
CCR did a great cover version of I Put A Spell On You, as well.
I love both Tina and CCR versions. They are different but both really good.
When Tina Turner died John Fogerty dedicated this song to her at his next performance and said she was amazing and he loved her version of it. This camr out in '69 and Ike and Tina did it in i wanna say '71ish
I wish more people knew which is the original when it comes to great songs! John Fogarty wrote this song and CCR performed it first!
John Fogerty's song,(songs) John was the main talent who got screwed over by the record company who kept him from his music until just recently when he finally won the rights to his music
You just heard the original version as sung by the person who wrote the song. John Fogerty.❤
john fogerty wrote proud mary in 1969
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, & Ike & Tina flattered CCR. This song, & many others by CCR, are what's known as "swamp rock", similar to Tony Joe White's style of music. Thanks for your reaction.
Ike And Tina Turner did a number of TV performances of their cover of “Proud Mary”. In 1971, they performed the song on “The Ed Sullivan Show” on CBS during the show’s final season, and on the West German TV music program, “Beat Club”. In 1973, Ike And Tina Turner performed the song on “The Midnight Special” on NBC.
Listen to their cover Live
I Put a Spell on You
Fantastic...CCR Soundtrack of my high school years...Boon dockers out in desert.
Grew up in Arizona. Good memories. ( WHAT I REMEMBER)
It was the 60 70, after all, still light up a joint and put on CCR...Only its legal now, never thought I would see cannibals legal, back then it was a felony.
Oh yeah! Great song!
Fogerty wrote the song!
But seeing Tina n the original Ikettes dance….game over.
N pumped a lot of “pain”, was misspelled. Should be “pane”, as in PROPANE gas
Listen to CCR playing Proud Mary,......Live
71 would be close to when CCR split up, I think. Then John was kind of quiet for a while after that. So, people may have heard Tina as she was touring, etc. just a guess.
Ike and Tina's version is hot. They do it twice - first a slowed down half, then a rowdy, sped up, energetic second half. IIRC it's live.
Just playin and Tina and Ike wrote Let it Be!
Just wondering, no offense, how old you are ; ). Proud Mary is like the Star Spangled Banner. It's a requirement of citizenship. 68 here grew up with all this great music. Old but grateful.
Most music video reactors were born in the late-1990s and early-2000s. A few were born in the 1980s. Most Oldies Rock stations stopped playing 1960s and 1970s songs in the 2000s, and started playing 1980s songs instead. That is why the younger generations are not familiar with songs from over a half-century ago.
@@LaptopLarry330 At least they're listening! I love young people discovering all the stuff out there from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Now all you have to do is listen to Creedence clearwater revivals own take on i heard it through the grapevine.
as a few people have said, their version is the original version
This aint no cover ,baby!
This version is a lot more mellow than Tina's version.
btw, a little misinterpretation in those lyrics: it's actually "pumped a lot of 'pane " (as in "propane")
CCR is the original version ... Ikke and Tina picked it up as a cover a couple of years later.
I can’t wait to see your reaction to Ike and Tina’s version
CCR now the turners version out of the water to the point this is the go to song version everyone turns to CCRs version
It is called Southern Rock.
John Fogerty wrote the song.
CCR is the original version...Tine did a phenomenal job ...
This is the original version, written by John Fogerty, not a cover version.😊
CCR wrote and performed the ORIGINAL Proud Mary... Ike & Tina based their version off CCRs
This is the original.
Do watch Tina Turner singing "Proud Mary" at Wembley in 2000, if you do, remember she was 60 at the time...
I think Ike and Tina were probably introduced into the rock world with this song.
CCR didn't "twist" anything up or do anything to change up this song. It is THEIR song. They did the original. Everybody else's (including Tina's) is a cover.
No twist,their song
Both versions good, main difference was Tina shaking her booty and being Tina and a higher octane tempo, other than that both a bit different but both total classics.
ccr did it nice & easy. tina did it rough, like she says.
This is NOT a cover. They wrote it. Your whole premise is backwards.
And then there was the time that Bob Dylan and George Harrison coaxed John Fogerty onstage for a performance of this song, while Fogerty was still at war with Saul Zaentz and not performing CCR material. They admonished him by saying "If you don't, the whole world's gonna think 'Proud Mary' is Tina Turner's song."
If you can find it, Garrett Morris's appearance as Tina Turner performing this song on SNL is worth a look.
OMG! Totally forgot about Garrett Morris doing Tina doing Proud Mary. It was So Good!!!
No Ike,on Tina version! John Fogerty wrote it CCR is the Original!
CCR is the originator ,all other are covers , get it .
it is two different sounds!
No cover there ,John wrote that song .
Go listen to Tina now!!!! Both are amazing
CCR is the original.
Yeah this is the origonal
The best version is John fogerty Jennifer Hudson and Alan trusant the studio version
swamp feel
The guitar solo is a perfect timbre for the song. Sends a simple reply to the main melody and just modifies it slightly CCR always played a song for what it was everyone fit a part and the vocals just made it work. John Fogerty was an amazing writer he made it work. The last album is kinda trash when they all tried writing before they broke it up.
Any Billboard chart before May 25th 1991 should be taken with a pinch of salt. That’s the date they started using SoundScan numbers instead of just calling a few stores and asking the owner what sold well that week. It turns out R&B, rap, hard rock, and metal were selling way better than the charts had been showing. The prior inaccurate (and corrupt) process was keeping those artists from reaching top spots. Once they switched, boom, NWA and Nirvana are on top of the charts.
So maybe Ike & Tina’s cover was more successful commercially too. We’ll never know.
John fogerty wrote the song
Must play song at boomer weddings. :)
The Tina Turner version is nothing like this she going listen to it pretty good
I think Ike and Tina totally misinterpreted the vibe of this song.
Every artist who sang this they gave it their own style. Trying to choose a favorite is like trying to pick a favorite child.
The Tina version is more uptempo.....
JOHN FOGERTY WROTE PROUD MARY ..IKE AND TINA KILLED IT TOO..❤❤❤❤CCR DID NOT COVER THS..JOHN WROTE IT..
This is ccr original ..Tina covered it
Ike and Tina did a very up-tempo version of this
Tina tears it up like only she can tear it up!
Just as I will always love you is not a Whitney Houston song. It was a cover of a Dolly Parton written song. The originators version may not be the most famous version.
Dont assume check out the history . Sometimes it might supprise you .
Tina had more commercial success with the song.
Ike's version was much more upbeat after a slow beginning ...its Tina of course
I am a major CCR fan and a Tina Turner fan. CCR wrote it but Tina transformed it! I like Tina’s better. Even Fogerty on one of his albums of others doing his songs with him styled it like Tina but with zydeco influences.
Tina takes this song to another level
Watch Tina’s version an you will see why she owns this song now.
Tina sped the song up quite a bit!
Yeah white artists covered black artists and black artists covered white artists
No cover at all Original
A rare situation where the CCR original is very good, but the cover by Tina Turner is even better. Best with a live performance, and the Ike back-up-dancers, this was a show-stopper. It was soulful, wild and sexy. Too bad that Ike turned out to be such a violent creep, but Tina was at her best during the Ike period. MMB has got to react to a live Ike & Tina Turner performance of "Proud Mary".
