We just found my wife's grandfathers 1953 Model 70 Featherlight in .308. Has the Redfield mount with a "The Texan" scope. No rust and only a few blemishes on the wood. Took it to a gunsmith to look it over for me and they ran 2 rounds through it. No issues. It's been in a closet, sitting in a leather rifle bag since the early 70's.

The most beautiful gun in the most useful caliber ever devised. The Model 70 in .30-06 is the quintessential hunting rifle in my opinion.

wonderful job on the video and good shooting there, i love the pre 64 model 70/30 06 my dad gave me his bear hunting rifle when someone wanted to take it from him and customize it without his consent, he hid the bolt for the rifle so they couldn't find it, when the time was right, he told here they were trying to take from me, but he hid the bolt and they gave up the search, he waited for the right time give to me as a family heirloom, i had to get it customize due to the damage from storage in our warehouse backroom. but oh i'm so proud to on the pre 64 model 70, i actually love the rifle and i plan to hand it down my family blood line,

I love that rifle! My dad passed away the other day and I ended up with that rifle but sporting a 6x redfield. Before he died, I took the rifle out and shot through the same hole at a 100 yards with 180 gr. Silver tips. I had so much fun. I’m going to get it out now that I saw this video ♥️

Arguably the finest hunting rifle ever made !! Previously owned 6 of them: 2 - 270's, 2 - 06's, .308 and a .243. All shot MOA at 100yds. So much for the myth of having to have a free floating barrel for that type of accuracy lol. You could polish that metal and cold reblue them. It's a very simple process and it would look so much better. 10 for 10.....dang !! You da man !! lol

I shot my first deer with a pre-64 Winchester model 70 30-06 when I was 18 yrs old. What an incredible rifle! My father didn't hunt, he was like many of my uncles that came home from WW2 ...after all the killing they really didn't want to see guns. But my friend's father lent me his pre-64 Winchester model 70 30-06 - and what a gun! Incredible accuracy and so little kick! I wish this gun was available now! BTW, my friend's father's name is Charles O'Conner ... I wonder if he's related to Jack O'Conner?

I inherited one, Made in 1947 with a type II transitional receiver (some people are telling me it's a pre-war.. but to my knowledge the war ended in 45). Friend of my father bought it out of the Montgomery Ward Catalog, It's almost too good for me to take to the range. My father shot deer and elk with it with Winchester White Box. I need to know if there's better "store bought" ammo for it. I'm thinking Hornady SuperPerformance.

    NOT on the RHSD.

I prefer them on the right side. Do you have an actual scientific reason for why they should be on the left? I’m not seeing why it would make a difference besides personal preference. The gun shoots less then 1 MOA with box ammo so I know it’s not causing accuracy issues. What would be the exact reason you say they should be on the left. In other words what’s the difference. If I turn them around and sight it in I’m sure it will do the same thing it’s doing now. If there’s a scientific good reason for me to swap then I sure will, but if this is just your personal preference I think I’ll stick to having them on the side of my personal preference. Thank you for watching

I put mine on the "right"side. Keeps all the projections, Bolt handle, safety lever, turret windage cap, and mount screws all on the same side of the gun. On some guns the mount screws get in the way of loading shells into the magazine, then I put them on the left side.
