Many years ago, I had to drive a co worker to A&E with two of his fingers in a zip lock plastic bag in my pocket (Good job I remembered to give them back to him as he disappeared throuhgh the blue doors!).....that blade guard does not come off my table saw ever!

I’ve had 3 sewn back on, I can’t begin to explain the pain… the doctors said it was equivalent to giving birth. I’ve limited movement in them, still can choke the chicken so not all is bad. Mine wasn’t workshop related. Curious was the riving knife installed when the accident happened?

@@HewAndAwe can't remember if there was a riving knife fitted, but he was reaching over the blade to retrieve the cut piece when something bound up and pushed his fingers into the blade. At school I sawed the tip off my ring finger with a tenon saw, leaving it dangling on a flap of skin....that hurt like hell and I ain't doing it again!

Last July I lost a chunk of thumb and the tendon of the middle finger on my right hand, in an instant; a moment where I let my focus slip. A riving knife would have prevented the accident . My right hand will never work properly again. Thankfully, I'm left-handed. I have learnt the hard way to be more careful; no matter how excited I get with a project, I NEVER, EVER use my cock as a push stick

I seldom remove the riving knife, only for a trench cut with a 6mm kerf blade, at best that blade is no more than 9mm out of the table, it does drive me made all the folk who remove it and preach to people it’s perfectly fine! 🤦🏻‍♂️
