- These are the 10 things that I hate in Need For Speed Unbound. Some community feedback from players regarding the game as well. Without mods in NFS Unbound currently we are not able to remove the cartoon effects. However there is already a mod that was recently created that allows PC players to remove the effects. Hopefully we can do that by default after upcoming updates.

This was a fair list, most of your critisisms were well made. Also CROWNED has a tool that lets you actually disable the effects, maybe get in touch with him to turn them off?

Fun fact, I came across the official youtube NFS account in BlackPanthaa's stream chat 2 days ago, and told them this exact quote. Then they responded with some nonsense that I had to decipher for hours on end, like something that comes out of an 8 year old on roblox when they try to talk. The others said that I got roasted though!

To be honest, I've started getting into the NFS community right after Heat released so I can't really judge Unbound that much, it's the first release i've had hype over but looking back at every other NFS, Unbound is definitely different from the other ones, it has a cool vibe to it especially with the anime effects and characters, the soundtrack fits to this outlaw type city and don't have that much negative to say abt it. Though I hope Criterion will come back to the NFS "roots" for the next opus, a burnout type game won't trigger me too much even if I'd prefer a game with 2015's vibe, loved it

There is an effect called Cloaked, that disables most of the cartoon stuff except the smoke. Though they did mention "tail smokes".
A thing to add about the car list - It isn't only 30 cars, when you progress many many more are unlocked, I think my car list is around 130 last time I checked, so definitely not small imo.
not small, but there’s a lot of cars that people won’t touch let’s be honest, by the time people unlocked all cars in the game they will end up using their top 6 or 7 cars. i feel like we could really use more tuner cars and maybe get newer gen of cars in the game. for exp a new generation wrx sti would be lovely weather it’s the 2015+ or the 2022+. but the car list is solid but as someone who’s unlocked all i’ve pretty much made my mind on my top 10 cars i will be using through the life spand of unbound until new cars get released 😂

@AdotDTB They should add more customization hoods for muscle cars and rear parts for cars like the RX-7. A game that is literally around 20 years old had 15+ parts.
As someone who never played the older NFS games, who started on The Run, got invested into Payback and Rivals, sunk a huge amount of time into Heat, played a bit of hot pursuit here and there, I was excited for unbound, despite ghost games getting canned. But seeing as there's glaring issues such as the cops being not as aggressive or threatening, hardly any car customization, the drift physics being very weird, etc. I think I'll just keep playing Heat. Sure evading cops through palm city in the dead of night will start to get more easier the more smarter I become with The roads and paths, but That's what I've always loved about need for speed. The car chases. The adrenaline rush of having the entire precinct throwing everything to take you down. I liked playing Forza for the racing, but I've always loved need for speed for the thrill of the chase. I spent a lot of time in rivals because of the way you can fight back against the cops(A small joke, but in the NFS universe if you just say you're from Redview county or even Seacrest county you're turning heads). Being chased by the cops during and even after a race always added this layer of tension for me. It's why I dropped payback after a while, the races were fun but the cops were nonexistent outside of missions. Heat really felt like a perfect balance between racing and chasing. The cops wouldn't bat much of an eye at you during the day but at night they were out for blood. The customization in heat also brought so much desired for me. Heat was the closest I've seen to match the unreal amount of car customization Midnight Club LA had, which released 10 years before NFS Heat. The soundtrack was the only real low for me when it came to heat, I found myself often turning off in game music and just playing my own. It's just unfortunate Ghost Games got the boot, Criterion should've made another burnout game, I love burnout for a whole different reason. *Carnage.* Seeing the amount of features absent in Unbound just after Heat had just about everything to offer, feels unfortunate.
Wise mate it terrible the online day time only and only way you don't have wasp like cops well more like ants that don't touch you but speed match you even a truck can speed match a Lamborghini lol 🤣 on story mode you got these under path car parks which is cool I do like that but lacks in events you race same 7 drivers all way through the game story cringe tf and handling a Lamborghini torque steers and I dont like sense of speed in the game noticed in the end traffic cops poping in and out badly I even drove on a mountain road to fall through the graphics lol 🤣 I was done went back on heat today.

You’re on heat level 2, try 5 😂 and if anyone was paying attention they released right on Black Friday. I got a sweet deal on the palace edition which basically costed regular pricing

3:42 if you are on a higher heat level its pretty challenging, especially with helicopters detecting you on open areas and swat trucks ramming you.
I think it's a genuine step in the right direction that the majority of complaints with this game come down to taste & preference. Means that NFS has picked a lane and is fully driving down it. For a long time they were struggling with identity for the franchise but I think theyre on the right track with this game's gameplay and aesthetics as it contrasts with much of the marketplace today
This is precisely my sentiment. There's clear passion and direction behind the project, whilst I have mixedfeelings about the OST for example, they knew what kind of vibe they wanted to go for.
Kudos to them, I avoided the previous NFS since HP2010 because of the impending identity crisis, they've finally nailed down a formula.
I personally don't like the new social media-oriented aesthetic they're gunning for, but it's good to see NFS fully adopting an identity unlike Horizon which, after 2, you really can't tell the difference anymore
@@thesquirtof8759 Yeah that's true but it's only a matter of time until the playerbase grows just a few years older and realizes that damn, the style is kind of obnoxious and too wanna-be hip and cool, and will never be a timeless classic like MW or UG or whatever other NFS we like. Just as with Heat, Payback, 2015 and etc, eventually everyone will forget about it, or in the best case scenario it will be a subtle memory of a weird game we used to play a little.
@@nihilisticpoet Heat was admittedly fun despite it's issues which is the vibe I feel Criterion went with for Unbound but went further than Ghost could due to more resources most don't realize how small of a studio Ghost Games was they should have never had to make NFS by themselves too small for a triple A game.
@@rightbehindyou9398 MW and UG stayed classics because of Nostalgia, they have their problems, i played them since childhood, and the Unbound has more UG vibes. and many people didnt forget about 2015, it has its moments, just like Heat has, and even Payback with its cringy story and empty freeroam.
And like the comment before me mentioned, GhostGames is a small studio that couldnt keep up with making new games, and you need to realise, older games were always too hip for the time. MW was griddy, like the trend at the time was, all the griddy dramatic movies, the edgy music, UG was for ricers, and looking at all the costumization you need to do to progress, you feel it, and times are wayyyy too different right now.
Definitely feel you on that soundtrack part.. it got to a point where I muted the ingame music and put my own over.

@@katsu_the_edgehog compared to the limited soundtrack Heat and Payback had, this is a nice change of pace. I wish there were some old school rap and rock songs on the soundtrack for Unbound but aside from 2-3 songs currently I don’t mind it. Haven’t gotten annoyed enough to put my own songs on via Spotify and/or Apple Music.

I think Heat was the best NFS ever since 2015.
2015 was exciting it was the first of these new games of NFS, i liked it a lot, very limited body modifications however and while the map was great and had a specific athmosphere, it didnt have a day cycle and the cops were very very easy so thats the 2 things that makes it the second best of this new era, i think it had the best story though, Heat had the perfect cops, decent customization, not great but good music choices especially for the night cycle, and the only problem i really have with it was the short main story, cops were great, and of course the handling was very drift oriented, i wanted to run Golf GTi and other fwd cars but its just not possible, this was what i was hopeful with Unbound that grip builds would be better but thats just not the case, the drifting even looks clunky and not as fun as before, charatcers are okay but i cant get over the cartoonish look. Payback doesnt even deserve a mention i think. I dont think i will be picking unbound up.
I've actually played unbound and have finished it and it's way better then the ghost nfs games but it's you're lose if you won't even give it a chance

I won't never come back to the NFS if they won't change overall driving physics. They lost a big fan years ago :( I prefer arcade physics from FH5 than going 300km/h turning left, and using the handbrake, and...? nothing happened, the car just stops Bruh. Great vid btw

Honestly I would rather have Heat cops instead, or Rivals. Those were true cops. Aggressive as fuck, not annoying, you always fear them and they don't need to be overspammed to be good, unlike Mw2005.

The NFS Twitter admin technically never lied about turning off the effects. They later made another post saying you can turn everything off except the trail lights and smoke. They just weren't clear enough with what they were talking about.

One of the things I don't think you mentioned was how mild the pursuit music is. No HEART POUNDING, heart-in-throat, "high stakes" feeling in Unbound. Heat had a great homage and feeling to MW, 2015's was angry and gritty, Payback has excellent guitar and stringed instruments, with heavy "thumps" in the drums also in homage to MW to keep tension, and most of the prior NFS games following suit in different degrees and styles. Music and immersion walk hand-in-hand, and I personally think that Unbound dropped it in that regards. Soundtrack included.
To fix the controller issue, you must put the EA application as a non-steam game inside of steam and then your controller will work perfectly
I have tried with both Playstation 4 and Xbox one controller, when in from steam, the controls are all messed up. Can you give me a hand with that?

Honestly the whole game feels like a downgrade from Heat especially the cop chases and whole vibe with the cartoon-y effects instead of the neon night vibe they had in heat

For me NFS unbound is super fun in terms of driving, customization, character customizations, graphics, the drift physics is not that great but it is still a good game, kind of
I don’t know why they won’t just tap into the wheel drifter market, the maps look great, but I’ll never play a car game that doesn’t include car physics.

Awesome vid! Just a little correction, about the arcade drifting, you have a setting to turn tap brake and gas to initiate drift in the play menu, which can be turned off, also for G729 wheel, it works with the shifter, only issue is the force feedback is really low, not missing, but low, weird.
I actually like the same driving physics! Why drastically change the physics every title? Rather improve on the one they have.

@@logc1921 Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly, Most Wanted 2012 was intended to be a proper sequel to Most Wanted 2005, as can be seen by searching up "Most Wanted 2012 Alpha" on CZcams.
For reasons unknown, Criterion had to scrap the whole idea and start from scratch, which ultimately led us to the Most Wanted we have now.
- Drifting doesn't really work much until you have good HP - 400-500. - fair enough. Also drifting in general doesn't feel very focused on in this game?
- We really need new cars, especially considering we've literally had the same copy+paste cars from 2015..... maybe instead of the RSX, the integra? Mitsubishi 3000gt? EG civic? 8th gen civic? 300zx? prelude? SC300? is200? - I understand acquiring the copyright for these cars is probably difficult, but most likely worth it?
- Also, where the heck are all of the photo mode options? there's like 2... They downgraded from the previous NFS's.
- I would kind of like an option to resize the HUD and maybe the opacity. It would also be great if there was an option to decrease the amount of debris and pedestrians on the street it becomes super distracting.
- Uhhh cops being easy? are you joking? Almost after every race, there's a chase. They see you on the street at all, there's a chase. I have to completely divert course or drive into the forest to avert them. i feel like i'm driving around for like 15 minutes at a time trying to get rid of them, just to get back to what i was doing, they spawn out of thin air sometimes. Not to mention sometimes I drive only using my map in these scenarios... It's a double edged sword, sometimes it's fun, sometimes it makes me sigh.
- I'd inevitably like to choose my own races - do all of them unlock after you complete the story? - I miss my sprint races most importantly.
- I wouldn't say the soundtrack is targeted towards a younger audience.... I'll admit, there is soundcloud rap that's made for highschoolers, but I don't think Rocky is part of that demographic - Also him being in the game is obviously the motive for the soundtrack.... The soundtrack is also multilingual so it supports artists from different countries. I think it was targeted towards a street/underground influence.
Grew up playing NFS hot pursuit 2 back in the 2000s. Those were fun times.. sad that this unbound looks like a joke for today’s standards..

I'd prefer a remastered NFS underground 2, Carbon, and Most wanted. Just add an online feature and boom up to today's standards.
I think too many car game enthusiasts expect too much from this game. It will not be a simulator, it won’t have realistic physics. In order for you to truly enjoy the game you kind of have to accept it for what it is, and that’s where the fun happens.

To be honest, I love the soundtrack on Unbound, I just wish the game had a little bit more variety like how Most Wanted, Underground, Carbon, & etc. had back then. They could've at least brought back a couple of fan favorites like Skinnyman by Static-X or B-Side Wins Again by DJ Spooky, Hard Drivers by Ekstrak, or even Out Of Control by Rancid, just something that can bring back some Underground vibes.
Unbound is a fine 7/10 in my opinion. Some parts could be improved with DLC's.

I have honestly never understood the complaints about the handling system being arcadey. That's what NFS has always been, it isn't meant to be a sim racer. I think there should be a street racing sim game for those that want it, but NFS has always been an arcade racer.
I remember when I was like 10, playing NFS Most Wanted on a PS2 for the first time. The cars, the music, the vibe just made me fall in love with that game, and remember I was very young.
Saying this is aimed for a younger audience is wrong in my opinion, because as a kid, you'll love cars, like I did.
Personally NFS died with Blackbox, the race types, the soundtrack and the fact that not a single game felt the same was amazing but now even with "new" old developers it all feels same-ish. Payback was as mid as it gets, but at least we had somewhat different race modes, Heat did ok but dumbed it down a bit, and now with Unbound we're back to 0.
For the PS4 controller, do you use DS4Windows ?
I do and I had the same issue. Just go in your DS4Windows settings, and Uncheck/reCheck "Hide DS4Windows".
Go back into the game and simply wait your controller connects back, done ✔️

4:22 if that’s the case then those people who complained about the cops being too op in heat THEY SHOULD PLAY RIVALS BECAUSE COPS IN THAT GAME ARE BRUTAL
Honestly my biggest pet peeve for the game is the online mode is SUPER DEAD, 16 ppl per lobby, can't even get a full lobby race cause everyone either afk or doing their own shit. There are no BOTS to fill in missing racers online and the party is capped at 4, why???? The races are also less intense now, cops don't chase you online which I really enjoyed it made the races HELLA more fun and risky to do and I enjoyed that rush.

In my opinion i really loved the cops in NFS rivals (it was my first NFS game) they were fun and challenging and I fell there recent games haven't been able to get close the level of aggressiveness and difficulty that rivals had.
Juvenile's Sets Go Up was in Need For Speed: Most Wanted back in 2005. Suggesting that NFS' soundtracks have been overwhelmingly metal and rock is not true at all.
We both agree that music is important and it seriously lacking in later NFS. What happened to NFS trailers and intro video starting with nice weird unknown rock bands like Hot Action Cop (NFS Hot Pursuit 2)

Theres one rule for me in street racing games. No ones doing street racing during daytime IRL. Period.
Most Wanted (2005), went kinda arround, because creating havoc on the streets was related to the storyline. Had fun with MW 2005, but never really liked the daytime gameplay.
Also daytime in Midnight Club LA totally kicks the player out from street racing vibe...

The drift physics weren't the original focus for Criterion anyway. I think they added them or copy-pasted them from heat just so people wouldn't complain that there's no drift at all.
1:07 - 140 cars isn't bad for an *NFS* game. if anyone expects the game to have good handling, map, good story mode and have a car list over 300-400, then they aren't realistic when it comes to modern racing games. Compromises have to be made and they always are. Also let's mention the fact, that cars in NFS games have more customization than wheels, 1-2 front splitter and 1-3 spoilers for each car. Imo I'd rather have less cars, that I can customize in any way I'd like than be stuck driving almost stock looking cars. Heat allowed me to slap a plane sized wing onto it's rear bumper, which in FH wouldn't be possible unless that'd be a special edition of some car.
5:56, 6:25 - I personally don't see a reason of adding wheel support to an NFS Game if it isn't like Shift 1 and 2. A steering wheel is cool for cruising around the city, (imo) but besides that it doesn't have any advantages from a controler / keyboard in races.
7:17 - Simple solution: get yourself a YT playlist (or download some music in MP3) and play it in the background instead of the in game soundtrack. It sucked a lot since payback, so I got used to just playing my own playlists instead.

IDK Why some people hate the animie effects of unbound, but I really like it it fits with the environment like how nfs most wanted cgi was like real life people with video game graphics, and unbound with animie people and visual's with realistic graphics.
Also Goose, its acttualy animie filter not cartoon filter/effects or just a visual choice.
Speaking of the soundrack, there is one specific genre which DOMINATES the car culture: PHONK.
With drifting in nfs, they just need to add prostreet or shift drift physics and it could work but they just hate us drifting better.
I was kind of excited for this game being another underground 2, which had wheel support for example. It's okay we are used to being disappointed by EA.
After seeing the twitter responses to totally valid questions I don't think I will be paying any amount of money for this game.

the cartoon graphics and whole anime approach makes this the first game in the series of all NFS that i wont even bother playing.. i felt like i had to force myself to play heat cause i didnt enjoy it.. ill be honest ive played every nfs title throughout my life... since most wanted its gone downhill.. RIP NFS for me.. its been a good run..
the comments thing does not supirse me, they said live on bfv dont buy our game and lots of people did not at that time. they are really bad at comunicating at times
For me the worst parts are the cops are not challenging, just annoying as hell and the driving physics, unlike they've said are really close to heat with a lot of the problems I've encountereed there as well.
For example: just scraping a traffic car can either cause a crash with 10 rolls or disable your steering for a short period of time (maybe the wheels lift off the ground slightly?), the handling is wildly inconsistent, somtimes the car drives well and at the next corner the rearend just feels like having a little dance and wiggeling around like crazy (pretty much like my dog when he's happy), not letting you turn in and then instantly spinning out or simply refusing to turn altogether. All of this was in Heat too, just way more often.

not being able to select day or night is frustrating bc if you suck you have to keep progressing anyway without making money. just switched to relaxed mode
you also cant edit your car without moving forward another day
I think this is one of the best soundtracks we've had. It's miles better than the one from heat

Cops are harder in unbound. In heat one you get over like 330 km/h, cops would lose you, but on this one even at my top speed 380 km/h they were still behind me with no signs of dropping in speed.
i only wish you could turn night or day on permanantly, as in unbound there is no diffrence between night races and day races unlike heat. in unbound its the same races just at diffrent times of day, so id love to just do night time. personally
Ok I kind of disagree with the 2nd one on the list. yeah the NFS account manger didn't need to say "milkshake brain" but at the same time I feel like they kind deserve it bc games always cost more when you get to play a few days early before the release date so I don't really get his agreement
Spot on! 100%! Being lied to (about wheel support and turning off the cartoon effects) doesn't sit well with me at all. If I'd known the truth, I'd have waited for a Steam sale before buying it.

Great video! I loved Heat and want to get this one but money is tight right now and I don't want to give the little money I currently have to a company that answers their customers that way on social media. Makes me think they will do what they always do...release the game, grab the money, and then peace out. EA is that company that will gladly take your money and then just abandon their customers. Maybe they change course this time. We'll see. Until then, I'll just keep playing other games.
All I’m waiting for is a more modern version of Rivals with maybe some special throwbacks for cops just like how they keep throwing around the M3 GTR every game they could also tie in Cross’ C6 from MW for the cops side or something special like the Rhino from Payback and Heat or the SWAT Truck from MW2012 although balancing those would be a challenge for sure...

I got into metal thanks to Most Wanted and by going into metal I got into music more, so I guess I can say NfS MW made me a music lover
I personally love the effect. I just hope they had more choice for other player that want to turn it off. And for the physics, do it really feel like Heat? Which mean drifting will be hard (personal experience, drifiting in Heat is a bit painful. Drag tires for drifting? You serious?). I haven't owned Unbound yet, so let me know before I buy it.

Lack of wheel support is somewhat frustrating
Drifting in this game is actually very well done, you just have to know which cars are suited best for drifting (ie RWD) and to know which parts to install [for reference the eclipse at A+ is an incredibly easy drift car for beginners.]
Cops are pretty easy for the most part but being chased during a race creates some pretty insane moments and makes it fun, frustrating and chaotic all at the same time. (I even won a race from like 5th place on the final straight because the cops absolutely obliterated everyone in front of me in a span of like 15 seconds securing the win for me lol
Overall NFS UNBOUND returned to its arcade roots and this feels like a genuine attempt at arcade games of old.

I mostly agree, tho the soundtrack is far better than in heat, especially in day time. I actually don't mind the day and night changing, tho heat only resets after a 24 hour period.

Yo goose. Hold a Mode button and press D-pad left or right to fast change wheel rotation angle. I use to to set 270 or 360 for NFS and Forza(I dont like its 900degree FFB).

Most Wanted 2005 should be a default point standard that they should take inspiration, add and improve on in my opinion, especially with their current Soundtrack Problem. To this day 05 MW is one of the best.
The price I would disagree because if you remember fh5 was around 60-70 pounds.
I disagree with cop being "easy" part, on the highest difficulty those police F150 Raptors will annihilate your healthbar in one single hit on high speed, as well as undercover Camaro that'll pull handbrake 90° turn right in front of you and make you stop, honestly the cop chase in this game is actually hard especially on heat level 5
I actually just recently got a g293 and was quite sad to see it not compatible with Unbound. I ended up spending a bit more money and got Assetto Corsa and some mods and have been enjoying it a lot. Hopefully one day they add better wheel support so I can stop using a controller haha.
We gotta understand that yes, music preference and taste is subjective, what IS objective is that the older soundtracks, whether the hip and cool (at the time) rock, hip hop or electro came on, it had fitting energy to it. Hip hop would play in the menus, while you're busy tuning and showing off your car, then in races they'd blast rock and metal or electro, which goes hand-in-hand with the energy of high speed street racing. Mumble rap does not go hand-in-hand with high speed street racing. At all.
Take the soundtrack of MW12 for example, it's very "of it's time" with all the electro and dubstep, and not only did they NOT leave out on the rock tracks (there's plenty and they're great), but the electro and the dubstep tracks had very fitting high speed type energy to them, and they make the game an absolute BLAST to play with those songs.
