    I swore I would never go on a cruise, but you're making it sound really awesome. No planning. No cooking. No cleaning. Tons of options. Wake up somewhere new everyday. Ocean Sun rises and sunsets. Wow.

    Another aspect of cruising is meeting the international staff on most ships. Wonderful caring and hardworking people.
    I’m sure you get to know many of the staff quite well over your long itineraries.

    I love pretty much everything about cruising, but a real standout positive for my husband and myself is not having to make meal reservations, get up, get dressed, take the rental car somewhere we’ve never been before, pay for parking, wait in line, eat a meal that may or may not be what we expected and a price we definitely weren’t expecting, then reverse the process to get back to our hotel only to have to do it again a few hours later. I hate having to get showered and dressed just to snag a decent cup of coffee, and sometimes we just prefer sitting on our balcony enjoying room service. Not dealing with car rental companies, driving, parking and trying to find good restaurants two or three times a day (or god forbid having to grocery shop and then do all the prep and clean up myself), is the number one aspect of cruising that makes it a real vacation for me.

    Congratulations on the weight loss! I'm sure you're feeling great. This is inspiring because I do expect to gain weight whenever I cruise. I need to change my mindset. And I'm with you on a lot of points about solo cruising. The best to me is not living by a schedule, being able to change my mind and not argue or have anyone else upset, not having to dress up (I rarely do MDR), feeling safe in being up late if I want, and yes, touching base in many countries without the flights!

    Thanks! for your videos, I began watching back in your Travato days (as we were considering downsizing from a 40’ Winnebago). Your content is great and I’ve found it, quite informative.
    I’m a little surprised more retirees don’t consider “cruising” over a senior retirement center or assisted living (when a person really doesn’t require assistance). The cost/benefits of cruising would outweigh being “planted” in one place for some of a person’s remaining somewhat active years.
    BTW, we did downsize, but even more extreme - we sold the 40-footer and bought a Suburban, removed the 2nd row seats, put in a full mattress, bought some storage bins and have a tent that couples to the lift gate. No more questions about repairs - delays in service times and parts - we can go pretty much anywhere for our camping, hiking and biking. We’ve been using the Suburban almost three years and have found the experience liberating.
    Now, if I could get my wife to buy-in to the cruising thing, we would have these senior years covered with fulfilling experiences.

    The way i look at cruising ports is discovering new places and deciding if you want to return for a longer time to explore! Meanwhile you arent having to drive, pack and unpack at each destination etc. Its just a nice relaxing vacation that most American need as our lives are so hectic and stressed

    Thank you for addressing the negative "superficial" perception! As experienced cruises, we hear this alot and it is so frustrating. We cruise because it is one form of travel that is very doable from my breathing compromised husbands perspective. We do exactly what you suggested - reseach the ports, find off the path attractions and try to have conversations with local folks and learn about their lives. We do vacation other ways as well however cruising is a favorite. Great video!

I was on NCL Breakaway….it was great! Hopefully you got the veteran’s discount off the cruise fare! They give a cool welcome aboard package to vets by the way. Google NCL and veteran and you’ll find a place to email your DD214. Also do that with all the cruise lines. Most have nice benefits for vets.

    Beautiful job. My first cruise was Canada/NE this past Oct and I have Alaska coming up in May. Both on Princess. The obstacle i had to overcome was my pre-conception of superficiality. I discovered the problem was definitely not inherent superficiality, but my mindset. On a port-intensive cruise, each day in port is as rich as I make it. My goal isn't to somehow see everything, but to have a rich and meaningful experience-- whatever that may be. And any vacation includes travel days. On a cruise, my travel days are as rich as I make them--reading, exercising, contemplating the beauty of the sea, meeting new people, etc. These travel days are far richer than days squeezed into an economy air or bus seat, or packing and scurrying to the next destination.

    Great video. New cruisers should watch this as those myths surrounding cruising are everywhere. Another one is that cruise ships are floating Petri dishes. I was on 3 cruises within the first year post covid (great rates - cant do that now) and we never got sick. Crew does an amazing job. I personally love the quiet time at sea. Sometimes get a better cabin because I spend a lot of time on the balcony and much of the time, feel like I'm the only one there. So peaceful!

The party vibe really depends on the length of the cruise and where it ports out of also the time of year of the cruise. I thought if I could go 100% remote I would rent/stay somewhere for 90 days like Schengen and short trips from there or Thailand as SE base to travel that region then RV in USA. Cheers

      Yep, going to mix in a bunch of styles of travel. I’ll be staying in lots of cities in SE Asia starting in late May!

    Is there any venue on the ship where you can get "green" or vegetable smoothies? Made to order would be nice.

    I had to laugh. You are on a repositioning cruise right now and didn't mention it! Must be all that sea air ;)

    I was in France, catching up on videos! I was just thinking that flight back from Europe is looooong, I think I’ll look into a cruise next time I go to Asia. I don’t mind an older crowd and being the “youthful attractive” one 😂 It is a lot easier to pass up the goodies if you are cruisng awhile! When you are somewhere a week or so you want to eat all the yummy things.

    Is there any part of the ship where you can experience the 360 sunrises, sunsets: yellows, oranges, and red converting to pinks, purples, and blues?

    • @30AndAWakeUp
      @30AndAWakeUp  Před 2 měsíci

      depends on the way the ship is pointing

    Do you pay more for a single cruiser. So would your expenses be cheaper if you had a partner? So splitting expenses.

    • @30AndAWakeUp
      @30AndAWakeUp  Před měsícem

      yeah it’d probably be a little cheaper

    Why is there this perception that “older people” are something negative, to be avoided? I have plenty of younger friends, and we have a lot of fun together

    • @30AndAWakeUp
      @30AndAWakeUp  Před 2 měsíci

      yeah i agree but it is a perception out there used as a reason that some folks don’t try cruising

    Curious if you can reveal how much you have to gamble in the casino to get free cruise rewards. My friend gets free cruises but he gambles a lot. Thanks

    • @30AndAWakeUp
      @30AndAWakeUp  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yeah, I talk about it in this vid and mentioned the video where I explain it better. I’ve lost a total for $50 of my own money. Only thing I gamble is the free play I get, any winnings from that reply and any onboard credit I have left at the end of my cruise. So no money out of my pocket. To be honest it’s not much but it has kept me in their system. Although, Im sure that is coming to an end soon.

    As primarily a solo cruiser, found some of your advice helpful, however, your description of some of the differences between cruiselines somewhat simplistic. For instance, Carnival is more than a "booze cruise." More experiences on the different lines needed as some of your statements are misleading.

    • @30AndAWakeUp
      @30AndAWakeUp  Před 2 měsíci +5

      You’re but is well taken and yeah, definitely a generalization but it is a broader video about a bunch of different things so I can’t really go in depth about each..the video would be like 2 hours long! :) If you check my vids where I am on specific cruise lines you’ll get a less simplistic view. And my opinions are just that, based on my own experiences on different cruise lines and I’ve explained many, many times, that each cruise ship and cruise is different - some have great experiences on cruise lines like MSC, others don’t.

      i agree but it is good IMO for him to share his experiances because our family had a choice ...almost same price ...between Carnival n Royal n we chose Carnival...had we heard experiances like his we would have made the Royal choice...After over 20 cruises on 4 cruise lines... we look back and know that Carnival cruise choice was a bad choice for us...just our experiance but the comedy was toooo uuuhhhh much for us ...Many people were stumbling bump in us drunk and most of all we smelled drugs...it was awful IMO
