    I really wasn't sure what to expect out of the Nano Talon, but any concerns I might have had went away the moment I saw it and flew it! It is designed really well and even though it is small, there is quite a lot of space in there, especially if you use the right gear. And in the air it is absolutely outstanding. It has some pretty spectacular flight efficiency for its size, and absolutely refuses to tip stall even if I try to make it! The ZOHD stabilization unit does a fairly good job of reining the plane in, so even more inexperienced pilots should be able to handle it.

    Следя ви с голям интерес, и благородно завиждам за условията които има в България за FPV и моделизъм. Прекрасни метеорологични условия и безкрайни полета, изоставените писти и липсата на законни ограничения са нещо за което мога само да мечтая. Поздрави от южна Франция, страна на циклони и строги закони, където не може да летиш без някой да ти каже че е забранено.

      As for the wobbles... for the time being I would say wrong PIDs... will see if that will be fixed when I do some tuning, otherwise I would say the slop in the control surfaces is what is causing it.

    wow what a rave review. Just received my NT in the post. So slick and well built. going to get a kick out of building and traveling and flying it. I am thinking L9R with 600mW 5.8 and oem stabilizer just to keep things simple and maybe 10km range. 4S li ion of course

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Haha, brave man! 10kms with the stock stabilizer!!! I wouldn't send this further than 1km without an autopilot capable of RTH! 4S LiIon is a must! :D

    • @scottross8606
      @scottross8606 Před 6 lety

      well I guess RTH have become much more reliable then. I remember a friend years ago would fly 30km out and back - no autopilot, not even an OSD. Myself I just like to have a home arrow on OSD and wing leveller beyond 3km. But I have a microVector I could put on here I guess (and I have two omnibus FC w ublox GPS to try with inav)

    • @ArxangelRC

    I need to fire another question your way..hope you dont mind... i bought the nano Talon, great plane, i have ordered an Eashine TX02 camera/vtx and plan to mount this on the Talon, i have a 7" monitor with 5.8 boscam but dont know what antennae to use on the boscam to get best reception, last time i tried one of these i struggled to get more than 20m range on fpv

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +1

      Hmm... 20m is too short! There must have been some issue! Make sure the antenna connector is a match to the connector on the Vtx and Vrx! I would suggest to go for circular polarization! I think the cam you got actually comes with a CP antenna anyway!

  • @transgenerations
    @transgenerations Před 6 lety +5

    I can't believe you haven't got a Mini Talon. I'm not sure where you heard about the tip stalling but honestly I've never tip stalled the thing and it flies beautifully. Very efficient but has a speedy cruise. Seriously, try it. It's so cheap in price too that if you don't like it you aren't out much money but I know you'll love it. Seriously.... :) ps I like your reviews....

    • @TheAngryAstronomer
      @TheAngryAstronomer Před 6 lety +1

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +1

      Not sure, I saw a few videos and read in the thread on RCGroups that the plane has some bad tendencies to tip stall every now and then... so I gave it to a friend! He has it setup just a tad tail heavy on purpose, and he does experience the occasional tip stall... but in any case... got too many planes waiting to be built, so really wouldn't be able to fit in a Mini Talon... or even have enough time to fly it! :)

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines Před 6 lety

      The Mini Talon is a bit picky about its C of G....careless placement of your Lipo is enough for the unwary to get it Tail heavy....Yeah, Im amazed you dont have a Mini Talon, it can carry an 8 amp 4S you know.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      I know, a friend of mine still flies the one I had, but it has seen so much beating, that he might be moving stuff over to a new body! :) Sadly I don't have the time for one of these right now, got so many new planes to fly and review! :)

  • @mailmanx69
    @mailmanx69 Před 6 lety

    That's great quality flight video! What camera is being used to capture that? I have a recently purchased Sony FDR-AX53. It's a decent camera but is MISERABLE for capturing flight in bright sunlight. The LED screen gets washed out, but I expected that. However, the EVF is also a huge disappointment because the screen is only .25-inches. That is far too small to accurately follow a flying RC airplane while trying to zoom and stay in focus. How is your rig for RC flights in the sun?

      Hahaha, yeah, flight efficiency is pretty darn impressive! The chase was a bit odd for me because it was with a friend's Mavic, and it was the first time I flew one of those. It flies and feels very differently from the Phantom 3 Pro I have! I think I definitely prefer my Phantom in terms of control and image quality.

  • @christopherstarzyk9209

    So the EachineTX801 has filtering? You can power it straight from the flight battery, and then power the Foxeer Arrow from the VTX and get that kind of image clarity?

      True, I have yet to see a plane that can go a km with less mAh than it can... BUT... it does like to stall... and doesn't take much to get it to do it... and ever since the Raptor V2, I am really wary of planes that like to stall as easy! :)

    @enriquelaya Před 6 lety

    I tried identifying your OSD but could not. Where do you get the voltage readings and battery cell number from ? I could saw that you do wrap power wires (and maybe both power and signal wires together). Does that help reducing noise on the video signal ? Thanks

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      That is the camera's OSD: goo.gl/fK2zfu
      It also has a voltage sensor, so it shows the battery voltage as well! The wires come pre-twisted, but it is a good idea to do so anyway - all of them at once, reduces incoming interference a bit, if there is any.

    @JOeSJNrForReal Před 6 lety

    Thanks for the review... nicely done.
    Zohd makes good aircraft. I was torn between this and the orbit. After watching Andrew Newton review, I bought Orbit instead. My budget didn't allow for both at the same time. :p During the maiden flight, i crashed into trees 3 times. I thought it would be dented here and there and wings and nose would come off. Surprisingly it was all OK. No dents, the wings and nose were intact. I was surprised that it is durable enough, unlike my 3-year old glider which had to be fixed here and there after only the first flight. Another surprise is that looking at all those who fly RC planes, not many people like flying wings. Many would prefer traditional looking planes and gliders.... You, Andrew and others... :)

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      I don't like how flying wings fly... other than that... I am not a fan of how they launch either... especially when they get heavy! :) I am glad you are liking your Orbit wing... ZOHD are certainly on to something! Waiting for the Dart right now... we will see how that would be.

    • @JOeSJNrForReal
      @JOeSJNrForReal Před 6 lety

      What happened when they got heavy? I'm anxious to know 'coz i'll be adding more stuff on it someday...

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Well... larger wings especially tend to be a pain in the A** to launch when they get heavy, and if you will be loading something up for long range, this will be inevitable! I've seen a fair share of them crashed on take off...

    • @JOeSJNrForReal
      @JOeSJNrForReal Před 6 lety

      I see. Thanks for the info. I bought the wrong plane then... :D
      Anyway, I see my fellow countryman 3DXL set up Zeta Z-84 for such long flight UAV like this one czcams.com/video/FixCfhCyO4c/video.html. So I thought this would be a good base. Oh well...

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +1

      Don't despair! The Orbit could be quite capable, every wing is different! I do prefer sub 1m wings for sure, as you can't really load them up too much, and even if they get heavy, a smaller wing is easier to throw because you can easily hold it with one hand! :) Fly it and see what it can do, it might be just what you needed! :)

    Great review.I have ordered one (kit) for my brother and I am going to put inav.Any tips for the build?I have a 3s 2200mah/25c lipo (175g),will it be ok for the cg?

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks! Yes, this battery should be OK in terms of weight so you can get the plane balanced, but I would seriously advise going with a 4S one... if possible, at least with the PNP version! Now... since you will be getting the KIT, I assume you will be installing some 2400Kv regular racing quad motor... so 3S should give you some good thrust. The stock motor that comes with the PNP is around 1900Kv... hence why I suggest going with 4S on it! :)

    • @littlbox
      @littlbox Před 6 lety

      ArxangelRC thanx,You are right I will put a 2400kv motor and a 6040 bullnose prop hope it can fly 15-20 min.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Actually if you have a non-bullnose prop, that would be better! The bullnose props have a lot of grip, but they also put an extra load on the motor... which may be justified on a racing copter, where you need grip in the air... but this plane doesn't really need this, so a more efficient prop profile would be better suited!

    I have one, there are some problems you might need to address to improve reliability. The ESC bec is not good for 4S. Servos are not very good, I replaced with MG. My wings have detached mid flight and was not able to control it so crashed, use some wooden coffee stirrers or something to make sure the clips do not unclip ;-)

    • @ArxangelRC

  • @EnglishTurbines
    @EnglishTurbines Před 6 lety +6

    Yeah, tempting to just glue those linkages and the wings on and remove all the slop. The price of this plane is too high because the serious FPV folk dont want or need the crummy flight Stab or even the servos or ESC...Pretty sure they could sell more if they offered a basic kit at a more reasonable price point. It's a nicely engineered little model, that flies well.
    iNAV is an obvious FC for it, small and light with an F4 board. Don't really need the amp counter TBH.
    I wish we had weather like yours, ours is crap.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +5

      Worry not my friend, the weather is now crap here as well! Hahaha
      As for the plane, a KIT version is now available: goo.gl/VypcZf but I would still go for the PNP version, because for that 27 USD difference you get quite a lot of stuff - motor, stabilizer, servos, ESC. On a plane this size all of these could last quite a while to be honest, especially at that amp draw! On the topic of FCs... for plane use the F3 controllers are more than enough, and as far as I've been told, the Omnibus F4 clone for instance has some serious defects in manufacturing, and then some issues with working... so I am happy I went with the F3 version.

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines Před 6 lety

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Sounds good, I am happy you don't have any issues with them!
      Since you use them so much, I have a question - how are the planes behaving in Angle mode?
      I am asking because I recently flew my Believer plane with the F3 Pro running iNav, and in Angle mode when I do a long 180 degree turn using ailerons and rudder, when I let go of the sticks it would keep turning, and I actually have to push the sticks a good amount the other way to stop it from turning and for it to level out properly! Not sure this is normal, so just curious how yours fly?

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines Před 6 lety

      Using the Omnibus F4 and iNAV....I dont use Angle Mode at all, it's pointless, it's a Mini Quad Mode!!!!..I use Manual / Horizon / Altitude Hold / RTL Modes only. Horizon Mode is the most useful as even with the gains quite high, it still allows full override without that mushy feeling, so Angle Mode is of no use at all.
      Bank angle max I set to 45 degs / Max Climb angle I set to 20 degrees / Max dive angle restricted to just 5 degrees, (no point losing height too fast on a RTL scenario)...My F4 boards are not clones, you also need to start using M8N class GPS receivers, it makes a big difference on the 3D fix. You dont need or want a Baro with iNAV.disable it.

      ArxangelRC I think that’s aerodynamics different rules apply above what’s in motion stays in motion that’s how an actual plane handles if you bank in to turn you will keep turning for a long time and dropping ever so slightly until you hit the ground or stall(that is if you don’t return to level)

      Well, a 4S 1500mAh LiPo pack would get you 1 hour of flight, I am planning to build my own LiIon battery for this plane, but it does require some specific LiIon cells with high capacity and high discharge, as this plane is small and would not be able to carry more than 4S1P LiIon configuration! :)

    Some are saying this drone isn't worth 200 dollars but I would get this one I didn't like what I seen in the micro nano but this one is a go getter. I like the fact that it has more flying time than the hubsans h502s and the parrot Bebop 2 but comes in cheaper as a plane than the quad. I wonder is styrofoam is as good as what the hubsans are using for their smaller h107c, I really like the flexible bezel its made of in the h107c. Maybe people think styrofoam isn't worth it. I think that hubsans uses some real hard plastic for the reason of hover break ability compared to some light drones with late lowering response. But guys and gals the parrot Bebop 2 is also styrofoam.

      You can connect any radio you wish, because this plane doesn't come with a receiver, you have to use your own. If you have a spare receiver for that radio, you can connect it to the stabilizer and it will work, but you would need at least 4 channels to make it work, preferably 5, so you can also switch between the stabilization modes.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Yes, 4S1P is what I would also do, BUT... the 10A discharge cells might be a tad weaker for this one, especially if you plant to climb fast for something! There are some Sony 3120mAh packs that are 30A discharge, and I think they would be better suited to 1P configurations like the one needed here! I have some of them and would make a pack out of 4 for the Nano Talon! :)

    • @swissuav9273
      @swissuav9273 Před 6 lety

      Yes youre right! But i think i try with sanyo ga. They are rated to 3c/4c Max. So 3.5A x3 is enough for a short climb. I will throw my gragonlink and 1.3ghz video on it for max longe range. I guess an inav with gps is also required. What flight times do you expect?
      If i look to youre video it will at least do 90min with 3500mah?

      Hey dude i was little bit searching the net an i have found this, www.imrbatteries.com/efan-20700-4300mah-battery/ these are the new 20700 standart it has 4300mah on 61.2g. and have 15A contiunius, max 30A. Maybe will do a pack with these the question is should i make a 3s1p or a 4s1p, im little bit concerned about the weight. im affraid with a 4s pack kill the efficience the pack will weight around 250g as a 3spack would be around 190g. What do you think? what setup would be best for mximising the flight time?

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +1

      3S will be lighter, but will also provide less power and less thrust to the motor! I would still suggest 4S, but I also did suggest going with 18650, because the pack will be lighter! I am not sure if these cells are the real deal and would give true capacity, but this is not a new standard, these have been around for a while. The new stard is the 21... something cells that Tesla started making! :)
      In effect... putting on higher capacity at the expense of added weight will do little if that weight causes the plane to draw more amps and thus consume the battery faster! Only difference would be the plane will be heavier and possibly would fly differently and not be as agile for instance!

      Thank you! Yes, from the small planes the Nano Talon has perhaps the largest space for such gear, but definitely not the full sized Pixhawk! Omnibus F4 Pro board running ArduPlane would be ideal, and a Matek PDB along with it! Keep in mind that the plane does like to shake quite a bit on the roll axis, especially on windy and turbulent days, but it does cam down when you go higher, where the winds a laminar.

    I've been flying this one for a few weeks. I changed up the ESC because I didn't trust that tiny little thing that it ships with. I struggle with it a bit as a long range bird because it just can't handle much weight. I did find that the factory CG is incorrect -- it should be 5 mm back at least. Mine needed a fair amount of mechanical uptrim to fly well with a 1500 4s. All in all it's a great value.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +1

      Hmmmm... will have to see if mine has any up trim, but it flew well at the stock CG points... may play around with that to see if I can get better performance out of it. The tiny ESC is not a problem, quad racers have been flying with those for a while now and they seem to be tough enough, although I will replace mine with a Cicada... just because I have some and trust them a bit more than the Flycolor. On 4S the motor draws less than 13 amps, so the ESC should be OK.

    Hello. Honestly I'm quite far to be agree with your enthusiasm about. My experience on first flights with, is really bad.
    Ok, must confirm all the pros of this little jewel: transportability, aspect, efficency (my be) but the worst cons , poor staff end factory material, compromise the rest IMHO.
    First of all i suggest to change the servos....
    An rc AIRPLANE , any RC AIRPLANE , that doesn't stands out the flight simplicity on maiden, means maybe something isn't in poroper way.
    As you mentioned in your video the lightness of the material associated to the approximate of the servo aileron and V-Tail command, make this little tiny plane, impossible to fly tranquil in light windy condition, wich is generally a constant in all over the world . Quite different, for example, from a WING WING, that could be rock solid in the air even with tiphoon.
    I need to place some thootpick on each aileron to reinforce hardner of hinge command , plus one round paper tape on the carbon square, to reduce the slot in wing section contact. With this solution, i only reduce the problem, without eliminating it.
    I thought installing INAV defenitely, would flight decent, but unfortunately isn't so.
    Every attempt to do an autotune , which should be the first easy way to PID it, is absoulutely inadvisable. Any session of auto learn procdure to get the essential PIFF value, result in a compromise goal due the inaccurate aileron zero reset, even with different servos. Than you only can loose time doing a manual pidding , wich is absolutely annoing fact....
    This is the last update comment i can do about, but other will follow.
    Reason of my anger is just beacause it's very expansive to get it from China , and even beacause i need to pay Custom tax . Final result is that i still have to get a satisfactional flight by an overrated model, while many others are much more cheaper and ready to fly good in few steps (S800, WING WING etc.etc)
    I'll be Pleased to see any your update too

      I understand you don't like the slop in the control surfaces... but couldn't understand what else you don't like about the Nano Talon! I plan to investigate this issue and to try and find a way to improve its performance in the air after installing an AP!
      Will have lots more updates on this plane because I do plan to do a few mods and to send it far... so there will be more videos for sure!

    • @itbma
      @itbma Před 6 lety

      Exactly!
      I don't like any model which you need mods, to improve its beahvior, or worst, just to fly decently, simply!
      Anyway, news of the day, i finally reach the right compromise with this little bad boy.
      I flew on today for more than 30 km , and now seems good , after deep and noisy mods.
      My opinion is surely conditioned by the fact my lasts fpv models was all good ones, without any big known issue: SW, Cloud Surfer, bixler2, Arcus sport, Raptor 2mt, 2 Mini talon, Wing Wing, Fx61, S800 etc. No one of this, a part the Raptor, I spent a second to adjust or think to do, any action to improve or make all better. They all flew very good at once...
      May be I forgot sometime could happen even different....
      In any case, tk a lot for your answer and remeber I' m always following your channel
      Bye, Gian

      Haha, thank you Gian! Appreciate the support!
      Actually I am quite used to making some mods to even assemble a plane, but yes, quite a few of them fly well after that! In any case I don't mind modding a bit to get the results I want out of this small and compact plane, as there really is no alternative for the moment! :) Anyway... this is a hobby and we need something to do so it doesn't get boring, right? :D

    Awesome review, as always! I just didn't quite understand why you didn't like the mini talon? It does not tipstall if it is set up correctly with the CG at 55mm from LE. Imo the Mini Talon is one of the best fpv planes ever made..

      I actually sold my Mini Talon to a friend, and he has done some pretty amazing feats with it, I am not saying it is a bad plane.. it is quite impressive actually in terms of efficiency, but no matter how he sets it up... it just waits for the right moment and stalls without hesitation!

    • @Android8890
      @Android8890 Před 6 lety

      Well, I've been flying my Mini Talon for a year and a half now - over 100 flights. The only time I had a tipstall was when it was too tail heavy. If it is set up the right way you can't get it to tipstall - it becomes mushy but doesn't tipstall. There has to be something really wrong if it behaves like that.
      The Mini Skyhunter was really bad in this respect - it really was tipstalling badly, and I hated that plane.. till the tipstall killed it once, taking some stuff with it.
      I think you should revisit the Mini Talon, you'll love it!

      I don't get that comment...!!! Modern modellers do quite a lot... and since the hobby is growing, it needs models that are easy to use, so it can draw people in. Once they are in, they do tend to get more experienced and start looking into more serious stuff and move on to building and equipping on their own! Almost ready and built models like this one are needed to popularise the hobby! No wonder this hobby was only reserved for the skilled before... building a plane required a lot of time and knowledge, and tools!
